-If you dislike a headphone suggestion, try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked instead of going "hurr, brand x sucks"

-If you see someone getting mad for no appearent reason, heavily shilling/bashing a brand/reviewer/headphone model etc, just ignore it.

-Feel free to share your headphones/setup and talk from personal experience, but try to couple your subjective opinions with objective data if the discussion asks for it.

so my hd650's arrived today..., they're good, very good but my so are my 702's when eq'd well. They sound better than the 702's but very similar when I turn the eq on the 702's. I can't really be bothered to eq the 650's and I don't like the build quality, especially the headband, they're also less comfortable than the 702's.

Long story short I just don't think they're worth keeping for £235 and getting £80 back at most on ebay for my 702's. I think this is where the ride ends, looks like i'm sticking with my o2 amp and 702's pretty much for life, and that's fine.

are you very satisfied with the hd650, or have you just not tried anything else?

also, what do you think about the audiophile-meme, that you have to use a tube amp with the hd650?

The entire concept of pairing headphones with a specific amplifier is borderline idiotic. Especially when the type of amplifier is only defined by something that has nothing inherent to generalize regarding sound such as "tubes".

Can confirm. There is no difference between amps and dacs. I'd better to spend extra on new cable (that actually impact quality) or fuses for amp, than falling for tube amp meme.

If without trolling than steelseries siberia. It is super comfortable and decent sound (large ear-cups with large angled drivers). I have V1 version that was discontinued, so can't tell about v2 or v3. They are mostly same, just v2 and v3 have shitty mic installed in to the earcup and in v1 pads was made from velour.. If you ever think about steelseries elite, than don't coz it is shit.

sub bass on par with mids, mid bass in 60~100khz region accentuated by around 5dB beyond the mids making vocals a little bit distant.

Bass has a nice punch to it, not a basshead headphone by any means. Fairly warm sounding

10Khz bump on par with mids can be irritating until broken in, rest of treble subdued.
Soundstage is pretty wide.

For what purpose? I guess electrostatics are the hardest headphones to drive to the point where they need their own special amplifier to deliver enough voltage. Take a look at STAX.
>>
>>54253072

I have sensitive ears. Getting to comfortable listening levels typically involves copious amounts of digital volume control and swearing off a good chunk of the volume dial. It's a pain in the ass to deal with.

In line volume control you set it 1 time and it prevents volume from reaching past it.
You can prob find variations of this 2 suit your taste's hope this helped.

Money isn't too much of a problem, so $250 is within reason once I start working full time in a month.

The K702s are great. The only two issues I had with them was the bass being a little quiet, and some highs being a little harsh.
After using them for half a year, the highs aren't harsh anymore, so I don't know if they're "burned in" or if I got used to it, but the bass is still a bit soft.
I also use them un-amped if it matters.

I'm looking for some open headphones. As little isolation as possible. More compact preferred but not required. Quality not super important and I don't want to spend much, like under $50. What should I be looking at?

This would be for low volume listening when I need to be able to hear others. Right now I have to do an earbud in one ear because I can't hear shit if I put both in. I'd like to be able to at least get stereo sound even if it's at a low volume.

I've listened to the DT990 and while the bass was was a bit too much, the highs were unbearable. I wanted to get the K7XX but porting costs and customs would probably raise the praise to almost 300€ ordering from massdrop.

I want a more present bass that doesn't get drown by the treble. I don't want very bassy headphones because I'm aiming for a more natural "how it's supposed to sound like" sound, plus I want to avoid that boomy bass that comes from male voices.

I have a fiio e10k that has a bass boost. It's good but it's too much, the impact is too hard.

I just switched from a Logitech gaymen headset to a pair of DT770 headphones with a Snowball mic.

It's a huge improvement, but is there any way to have instant microphone feedback? The headphones black a lot of noise and it's hard to gauge how loud I'm talking. My gaymen headsets had a zero delay feedback so i could hear myself clearly while talking. The built in windows feedback has a delay that makes me talk over myself.

>>54268924
The 800S supposedly fixes the sibilance issue, although it's still a bright headphone no matter how you slice it.

If headphones are made with identical parts, identical housing, and whatnot, then why is the price for some so high?

Excuse me if it sounds extremely fucking retarded, but what exactly would be the difference (besides the price) between two headphones made with the same driver, has the same exact perceived frequency response, yet one is $600 and the other one is $40

Do the materials really play that much of a role into a headphone?
>>
Is going from the k702 to the hd598 a step down in quality?
>>
>>54268956
Not him, but if you want a bright headphone that's not the 800's, the Ether is often recommended, and then you get into darker sounding cans like those from HifiMan and Audeze. At the high end it becomes more about the kind of sound you want than anything else, except maybe ergonomics.
>>
>>54268956
>>54268950
better but not. it's still harsh, still bright. I don't know why you would spend so much for that. most people find bright headphones fatiguing. if I had that kind of money I would get an ether or another planar.
>>
>>54269038
can you give an example outside of grado? sharing drivers is not uncommon but housing does change sound, and accessories, features, pads, etc. can drive up the price. and brand, which is bullshit, hsr1000 is the same as a pro80 and the titan 1 is the same as the fiio x1 (I think that's what it's called).
>>
>>54269213
I see. I'll take the Ethers into consideration as well.
>>
>>54269038
if you buy a headphone for more than 600 dollars then you're a foolish person.

I don't know why a headphone manufacturer hasn't just dedicated a part of their business to just tailoring a headphone for an individual's specific preferences to sound signatures.

Like, instead of producing a headphone that's $1000, why not just fucking charge that kind of money for a service where they tailor a headphone just for you.

that way, it's $1000 well spent, cause I seriously doubt some people who were dumb enough to actually blow close to a grand on some headphone actually had a clue what the sound signature is like because they never auditioned them at some store or a convention so most dipshits suffer buyer's remorse or post purchase rationalization

Do headphone companies realize how much more money they'd potentially make if they set up a service like that for like, $700 or some shit?

They kind of already do that with IEMs, you can get molds taken of your ears and they make an ear dildo shaped just for you.
For regular headphones you'd want to get an HRTF measurement of your ears and apply a DSP-based correction to the music based on that data, on top of any equalization required to get a flat frequency response. There's no real reason to tune anything physically.

Similar. Both would require equalizing. K702 is a brighter headphone which subjectively to me makes the bass on it sound weak. HD 598s have pretty balanced amount of bass but it rolls off significantly after 80 Hz without EQ. Extension is good hence you can easily EQ it.

>>54272540
Better response, less colored. KZ ATE is extremely bassy and has a problematic drop in response in the treble. Piston 3 is bassy but still considerably less so than the ATE with also smoother response in the highs without large dips. From the measurements I've seen Piston 3 also seems to have better channel matching and the build and fit on them is nicer.

Why do people call the sennheisers "veiled"?

Serious answer: how do those 1s and 0s sound?

You already have one

I'm on Linux with alsamixer. Is PCM what causes distortion? If PCM is at like 63 and Master and Headphone are 70-100 will I get distortion?

It probably has something to do with how the HD 5x8 and the HD 5x5 -series sounds like from higher output impedance headphone jacks. These models have a large impedance swing right around 100 Hz which causes uneven voltage division if the output impedance of the headphone output is high. In practice this means there will be an emphasis around 100 Hz in the response because the point of highest impedance is the easiest part to power. A large hump in the "midbass" frequencies leads into a perceivably warm/boomy sound.

Pic related gives you an idea of how large the hump there is from different output impedance sources. You can create a similar filter with an equalizer to simulate the effect if you want to hear how it would sound. High output impedances are commonly found from receivers and integrated amplifiers.

Some models like HD 650 is definitely tilted towards a warmer sound signature but to call them veiled is a stretch. Also people's definition of veiled seems to vary a lot.

Something wrong with the one you have now? If not, no.
>>
>>54274760
Well I have an e10k so that shouldn't be an issue, right?
>>
>>54274802
That thing has a very low output impedance so it's not an issue with it. If it is an issue, proper use of an equalizer reverses the effect.

Do you know if there's a difference between the normal 598 and the special edition black one?

This guys certainly believes there is

>head-fi
the same place where people think putting some rocks on your amp changes the sound
>>

Unfortunately it's one of the most popular forums to get impressions from. If I filter "head-fi" in google search sometimes I barely get any results for my searches

stop reading into meaningless things like subjective impressions.

God dammit, I want to get a pair of headphones that can play pic related without giving me a headache (and other things that could use a bass to balance my mind). I've been looking at the the HD558s, K612s, K702s, and K550s. Which fucking one do I go with, or is there one that I'm missing? Fuck, I hate being poor and indecisive. Also I'm pretty sure I want opens.

Unlikely any in terms of sound. Just different color and I think it came with two wires in the box, shorter and a longer one.
