Then to answer both our questions, no you can't prove or disprove spying in windows 10 because it's closed source.

All you can do is make judgments based on the available facts.
Does win 10 send back more data than 7/8.1? Yes.
Were telemetry options inexplicably deprecated in an unprecedented way? Yes.
Is Microsoft pushing win 10 for """free""" with borderline malware style tactics? Yes.
Is the telemetry data hosted primarily in a Five Eyes complicit country? Yes.
Is Microsoft a part of PRISM and known to comply with law enforcement requests for user data? Yes
Is win 10 a shitty OS compared to basically anything else regardless of all this? Yes

glad I could help

It has been shown by more capable people than me that windows 10 is sending data to microsoft servers on multiple occasions.
We don't know if it's actually private data but it's more than likely, since microsoft wants to make money from advertising to you, which gets more effective and more profitable when using your data to determine your personality.
Honestly, even without all this privacy stuff, the fact remain that a "free to play" operation system is a terrible idea that should never have existed in the first place.

Non of these links are about technical preview, retard.
>>
Besides, I tried asking before and couldnt get really any answer, save for posts calling me "marketeer" or "pajeet" because I refused to simply swallow the dogma about "good linux, bad windows". Oh and old links as "proofs" where even authors was clearly saying that they only "suspect" something.

Of course, the biggest bullshit is that - and nobody sane can deny this - unless you dig in registry, use third party program or block tons of adresses in firewall, users of "Pro" or "Home" versions cant even block all the options. This basically takes away control from the user. Only companies with their Enterprise can officially gain proper level of control - and not all.

You see, the reporting fuction is build-in in OS and you can read MS own articles about that (for example, https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/manage/disconnect-your-organization-from-microsoft#bkmk-moreutc ). The "Connected User Experience and Telemetry" is always on - packages content is controlled by other settings and in case of Enterprise/Edu, with disabled all options, turned off MSRT report and installed third party AV, only contains machine ID, device and OS class. But as you can see - it always connect. Basically calls back MS servers and then think about what it is allowed to send. Same with connecting while you enter something in Start Menu search - if you told it to not doing that, it will still first connect and then realize it shouldnt, basically empty call. Whole mechanism is designed in full data exchange in mind, which is limited only when user is actively refusing to do so - but only limited, not prevented. And you must be aware first.
>>
>>54236059

The very first https://archive.is/Zny36 link uder "Windows snoops on the users' files..." section, you dumbass.

Another parrot that only copy pastas, without even reading it. You are just as bad as all those "NOTHING TO HIDE, NOTHING TO FEAR" retards.
>>
>>54233585
You could get away with downloading an illegal ISO installing in a VM and disable NAT, or wait for a full retail DVD release. Install and don't allow it to connect to the internet. By that I mean, unplugging your ethernet cable.

Still, I wouldn't use this retarded piece of shit anyways

So you are looking for proof that a closed source system is doing something untrustworthy? Isn't that the whole point of free software? That no one can actually know is it is safe or not. I have no idea what is in the encrypted packets leaving my computer everytime I use my keyboard on a win 10 machine. I'm also not going to assume it's safe because rajeet said so.

The NSA literally makes a copy of the Internet at the major backbone ISP routing level. It really isn't that far-fetched to see data mining from an OS as a possibility. You can by default believe things that can't be verified as trustworthy. Most inelegant people will not.

Years before snowden:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_641A
>>
>>54236072

Continuing, Win10 have data collection, hell, even keystrokes collection in EULA, since the services proided along with the OS does use that - Edge will collect keystrokes, unless you will tell it to stop, OneDrive will check your photos by "Photo DNA" if they dont contain anything illegal and so on. They have to mention it in EULA, even if this is optional - but many people dont even realize that this is an option and happily feed MS with their data. This is not even about providing them with passwords and such - they are not interested in that. But creating patterns out of thousands of users behaviour is worth hellload of money.

There was a video of russian guy showing how Win10 made screenshoot of his desktop. It was called bullshit numerous times on /g/ already, but is still being used.

Another guy made webm about how Win10 sends packages of his keystrokes and such. Other guy (https://youtu.be/sF5U4tAzQZc) called it bullshit, showing how he did the same and yet nothing like that happened.

A lot of "Windows 10 spies on you" articles provides as proofs "network analyze" of how W10 connects thousands of times. This was again proved biased, for example by http://www.zdnet.com/article/when-it-comes-to-windows-10-privacy-dont-trust-amateur-analysts/

There is a lot of shit on both sides. Much of it could be avoided, if MS would think ahead and instead of forcing it down users throat with options to say "no", would first ASK. But somebody was too greedy on that sweet, sweet metadata.

And of course, the big bullshit of letting companies control the information flow and typical user not.

Is searching bing.com when you use cortana really spying?

Big fucking surprise when you search for something it connects to a search engine
>>
>>54236464

Not him, but thats part of my problems listed in >>54236354 post - MS could avoid most of the mess with just stopping forcing various services on people. Cortana could be option at installation, not coiming along and by default with full invasion. OneDrive too.

All they need was being honest.

But does the "typical user" care? They happily feed metadata with Home and Pro versions. Fe anons and companies that install Enterprise/Edu and limit the bullshit are marginal case.

All they want is what phone companies want - patterns created out of people behaviours. This is worth absurd amounts of money and it still grows. It have to break someday.
>>
If you install windows 10 on a virtual machine on your computer do Microsoft still have capabilities of basically botnetting your whole pc?
>>
>>54236686

Provide your definition of "botnet" since Im afraid that we know different ones.

Do you ask if MS will turn your PC into "zombie"?
>>
>>54236438
With how spergie the average Linux user is you think the code has never been audited? Come on now...

I'm sure even you can understand the difference between having the option to check and simply not being able to check ever. If you can't understand this concept freedom may be too advanced for you.

>Thinking Windows and Linux are no different in how source code is treated.

Why even post here?
>>
>>54236771
Basically the whole telemetry , monitoring of keystrokes and hard drive being backed up on the cloud and so on
>>
>>54236814

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/manage/disconnect-your-organization-from-microsoft

Here you have official explanation of telemetry functions.

A lot of it cannot be (officially) disabled if you dont run Enterprise/Edu version. At lowest possible level, telemetry include only your machine ID and class. Keystrokes are being collected if you run Edge or use Cortana, so if you want to use W10, look up for solutions on disabling it. OneDrive and other cloud solutions should be disabled right away as well.

The EULA is enough.

>but that's not actual proof!
well, maybe you should stop being such an easy consumer.
start thinking critically for a change. the company doesn't act in the best interest of their consumers.
if doing this shit helps them legally or financially, of course they're going to do it. they even wrote it in their nice little EULA.

>>54235906
catching child porn is the super easy excuse.

Trying Windows 10 right now.

Sure, it feels nice to have something new, but the novelty is slowly wearing thin...

Everytime my computer is't used for 5 minutes or so the fans start whirling and cpu usage skyrockets - no idea why, I think it's Update shit.

On that note, Updates are awful - all forced/automatic, and the group policies as far as I can tell are ignored!

The spying may be overblown, but relinquishing control over Updates is pretty shitty
>>
>>54233585
but according the Microsoft privacy statement, they are well within their rights to send all microphone audio to Microsoft, when the computer is idle.

This what pisses me off the most, I can live with the spying rumours. The updates are just inexcusable, locking home users to be forcefully updated no matter what is just criminal.

There should at least be some ability to defer updates temporarily for all users to account for the possibility of system breaking updates. The only thing they've offered is that update hide/remove tool, which only works AFTER you install the update. Well what if the update puts my PC in a reboot loop?

Not sure how powerful this setting is...

Shame all the good settings are hidden away in Group Policies now
>>
>>54240289
Last I checked only Pro/Enterprise have access to the Group Policy editor

I was noting that Home has no way to defer updates at all. Lots of people that aren't complete novices use Home such as students like myself, usually because it came preinstalled.

I could happily just AutoKMS the shit out of 10 and enjoy Pro, but I'd rather keep my genuine license for now. So I'll stick with 8.1 where I can at least control my updates, and I'll be on the lookout for something with Pro preinstalled next time I'm in the market for a new machine.

Let's look at ONE (1) of the many botnet enablers in a long and updated list.

It is connected to hundred (100's) of Autonomous Systems, from:
AS10098 Henderson Data Centre Limited (HONG KONG)

...to:
AS9984 Microsoft Ignite (Australia)

And it is related to hundred of IP from:
2c0f:fd58::/32 Data Pro Business Online (SOUTH AFRICA)

to:
1.160.0.0/12 Data Communication Business Group, TAIWAN

So, you need an HARDWARE FIREWALL TO CLOSE THE BOTNET, not muh TWO (2) CLICKS ON MUH SHITTY TABLET

>>
With all the talk about MS spying and all - why no companies went mad about it yet?

I mean, if they are selling Enterprise edition for companies and similar customers, their admins should refuse to install OS that does not provide proper security for companies networks. After all, this is about large sums of money.

I can imagine spying on free users and leaving paying ones alone but I cant really imagine situation, when both are being spying on.

Because /g/ claims that MS does more than what they admitted they do, like:

nothing will ever be able to prove or disprove the spying, it's a closed source OS.

>>collecting keystrokes
>>making screenshoots
both of which occurred during the beta period, so it's certainly still possible
>>detecting illegal software (how?)
Microsoft has already demonstrated the ability to uninstall user software without prompt as part of an update

>you rarely can have discussion about that, since it quickly devolve into "SHUT UP PAJEET" shitposting.
because these discussions are ultimately self defeating (see first point) and there is strong evidence that there are paid shills on /g/ trying to improve windows 10's shit image

>This sound like denying any closed source software, because it is closed source.
Not at all, I'm primarily a wangblows 7 user.

While you can't prove specifically what data is being sent back you can prove that data IS being sent back and make judgments about the software based on the available information, see >>54233767

If that doesn't matter to you then fine, but as I said there will not be any hard proof for/against spying in windows 10 until it's open source, which is probably never.
>>
>>54242201
That's what it is.
Deny everything that has the potential of being malicious.
It's that simple.
>>
>>54242303

But a lot of closed source is useful and dont have open-source counterpart.

>>54242300

What if I believe official documentation about group policy settings and such?
>>
>>54242365
then
>If that doesn't matter to you then fine
and there's no other discussion to be had
>>
>>54242392

Well, it matters to me, but everyone is saying that the official documentation and articles denying those spying revelations or showing their own tests that dont end with same results (and having more detailed "experiment" setup provided) are lies and I get worried.

After all, I will have to switch to Win10 at some point, for the same reasons why I stay on Win7.

Dont worry, Im pretty aware what it means and thats why I used it.
>>
>>54242862

A more accurate definition would be, "a principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true." Merriam-Webster gtfo.
>>
>>54242862
Your definition is more synonymous with the word religion, while dogma is what drives the religion
>>
>>54243102

Yet I used it in a sense I described in earlier post.

Yet, the only true difference between our definitions is that second specify source of principle/belief. Both however treat is as religious version of axiom/paradigm.
>>
>>54243122

Yes, indeed. I already noticed that many Linux users act like part of religious group.

How do I stop it? There's no option for "do not schedule" or anything anymore.

I already have windows 10 on my main rig, I DO NOT want it for my shitty laptop running Windows 7, which they think it's compatible but it's not and I know my laptop will fail if it goes through with it.
>>
>>54246423
Why do you think it's not compatible?
>>

step 1. stop using windows

Hard drive has always been a bit iffy but this install could kill it, it "died" on me in the past and I've had boot errors as well even with what it does have.
