I use Windows 10, various flavours of Linux, Android and OSX almost daily.

Why are so many people religious about what operating systems they use? A mix of several is the ideal solution.
>>
>>54231744
why?
i don't need any of those
stop being a fucking retard, you can run everything on linux

You just get used to something and comfy. I used to use win7 on desktop, then switched to Linux for about the past 9 months. Today I had to use a Windows computer to run a python script. This should be a trivial task, and for me it would be on Linux, but I found myself dumbfounded at how much trouble I had locating the path variable and navigating command prompt. I literally had an autism attack doing this and just had to stop. I guess I'm just retarded and comfy with Linux now.

I don't know. I installed linux on a chromebook I got cheap, have a hackintosh and a macbook air.

Windows lost me at 98, honestly. The endless virii, crapware and exploitative bullshit just turned me off M$.

OSX was next. It's had its ups and downs. Used it since 2004. Macs have a lot of really nice features, like target disk mode, time machine, just werks, etc. But it can feel slow (hence Steve always saying it was teh snappy) and has been getting kind of bloated.

Linux is another beast entirely. I tried a number of distros trying to get some features that are default on OSX, specifically whole-disk encryption and an LVM. Ended up going with Arch because it was the only one with documentation on how to do that.

Linux is somewhat over-sold. I didn't think the performance was what it should've been, and the recent kerfuffle over the scheduler confirmed that. Things tend to break; either you have to spend time doing tedious manual configurations or hope that some half-baked software tool will work, which it often doesn't.

On the other hand, free-as-in-willy DOES actually put a lot of fun back into computing. So I was feeling very affectionate towards my linux box for a while. But I've been moving back towards the mac now, with its great integration, sane defaults, easy configuration, stability, software availability and useability.

Obviously I'm not really religious, though I do treat Windows like someone who got food poisoned treats shellfish.

I just boot windows once a week to play a bit of Dark Souls.

Even when I need Microsoft Office I used it in debian.
>>
Some of us actually need Windows for the laboratory software. I would love it if Vernier would give a proper fuck about Linux, but so far it doesn't have the features nor hardware support I need.

Just get whatever let's you work.

>specifically whole-disk encryption and an LVM.
Most installers have a "ENCRYPT MY HD!" option that will setup luks/lvm for you.
>>
>>54231955
this
>>
>>54232149
Yeah but they do LUKS-on-LVM not LVM-on-LUKS, so you end up with unencrypted swap and other such nonsense.

I have triple boot on my laptop: W7, Mint, Qubes. Different OS for different uses.
Also VMs with various linux distros.

I have 7 and Arch dualbooted and have 7 on a VM in arch for when I can't be fucked to log out and use office. Why a VM and not wine? becuase I don't want to pollute my systems with loads of extra packages, a VM is all nicely self contained.

Win10 and OSX daily. Loonix at the weekends when I have time to tinker with broken shit.
>>
>>54231744
Use Windows 10 on my desktop because vidya, Foobar, ease of use when I want to do more than just browse the web and type shit.
Xubuntu 16.06 on my ThinkPad because I like variety.
Kali Linux on my old Vostro for fucking about like a pr0 hack3r

I really dislike this "religious" commitment to OSes, but usually Windows is just too difficult to dethrone.

What are tits like this called?
>>
>>54231744
Linux on a laptop, linux/windows dual-boot on a desktop. But since linux boots first automatically if you don't select windows, I just use linux all the time. Never find myself having to logout and log into windows, since linux does everything I need without having to restart all the time *cough* windows
