What do you like to drink while programming? The office keg (for those of you in the startup crowd)? Your own stash?

I'll start: I like Soju. It's sweet enough that I can take shots of it, and I like Korean food too.

Beer. I've thinking about getting a bottle of Glenfiddich though. A bit more refined.

Water or Tea.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_beverage#Short-term_effects

>Drinking enough to cause a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.03%-0.12% typically causes an overall improvement in mood and possible euphoria, increased self-confidence and sociability, decreased anxiety, a flushed, red appearance in the face and impaired judgment and fine muscle coordination.

Why would I want this while programming?

I did most of my data structure assignments on a drink of scotch. It got stuff done but i just looked over some of it and it could be much better.
>>
>>54231135
I'll drink whatever's on offer but beer/cider/wine are what I drink at home. Wine gets special tax treatments here so it's by far the best value booze

Soju is nice but sneaky because it's like drinking water until you try to stand up and realise just how much you've had

>>54231922
because at the lowest levels it also becomes incredibly easy to focus and ignore everything around you

two or three beers makes it really easy for me to grind out stuff i'm not particularly excited about working on

ebin projection. Got anymore out your ass or are you done?
>>
>>54231135
Soju is really good. You can spend hundreds of bucks on Johnny Walker or Hennessey or whatever but nothing will come close to the drinkability of Soju.

Once I was drunk, I told myself I was going to edit the Lua interpreter to run Javascript and I was convinced I could do it in one night. I stayed up really late working on it and woke up on my desk with a with a copy of Lua running with everything the same except the word "nil" was replaced with "undefined".

This is still a project I want to tackle one day.

>>54231135
Programming while drunk is a stupid idea.
You won't write better code, in fact you'll write worse code.

More than half of the time I drink while coding its red wine. 3-4 cups of coffee until I'm uncomfortably energetic, then start on the red wine to take the edge off, and keep going until the work is done. After years of mixing and matching, I'm quite certain of that combination.

Occasionally I'll drink white wine or whiskey. Often without a coffee prelude. Don't know why it doesn't work for me with coffee. Earl Grey Tea, maybe, if I need the caffeine. Order of preference among whiskies being rye, followed by scotch and then bourbon.

At this moment, however, I'm working fixing up some especially bullshit-tier JavaScript code and it has ignite a great hatred in my heart. So I am drinking straight Chartreuse. Because that is how this wretched old JavaScript code feels to me. Burning hatred, but it'll go down, some how or another. Pic related. It is me right now.

Guess I'll add: Never beer.
Every time I do or try, I regret it. It just makes me sleepy and I get distracted easily.

>>54234509
While OP's title says "Drunk" specifically, I'll point out that drinking != drunk. I agree with you in terms of coding straight "drunk", but a little buzz, depending on the code in question, isn't horrible.

Example: Working on a legacy project, I had the honor of introducing real tests for the first time to an entire sub-system. I'd done some baseline characterization tests, but there was a point where I needed to just sit for six hours and shit out a bunch of test data (some of of programmatically, some of it slightly-altered from production data, but a lot of it just made up by me). Did I save it for a do-nothing evening and have a glass of wine per hour across those six hours? You bet. Never was "drunk", but it certainly kept me from being too pissed off at mundane nature of the task or the system I was working on.

Yes it is delicious. Some kimbab is always nice.

Anyone know how the programing job market is in Korea? Planing to do my masters there and learn Korean for a year.

from what I heard, programmers are treated as a cost center in Korea, not the product makers. This is not unlike any other job in Korea, since work/life balance does not exist there. 10+ hour days for mega corporations known as chaebol with bosses that have 20th century American mentalities about work and employees. Pay is not good, either from what I hear. However, 10+ hour days are not required, but are simply expected if you expect yourself to ever et promoted.

Despite the long work hours, Korea is one of the least productive OECD countries for the amount of time they put in. Staying long hours at the office while playing Tetris looks better to your boss than meeting deadlines with time to spare (dedication and loyalty are valued higher than results). Thus, those 10 hours days are unproductive. Furthermore, you are expected to hang out with your coworkers and boss outside of work. on the other hand, your boss is expected to pay for dinner/drinks as the older/senior.

It's a very nuanced culture. It has it's ups and downs, but I can't say I'd want to work there. Perhaps getting a foreign assignment for some big American company like Microsoft or Google (though Koreans don't use google).

Also, if you want to do anything web dev related, learn ActiveX and old ie versions of javascript. South Korean websites require an activeX plugin to secure SSN numbers, required by the government (law passed in the 1990s). So, despite the fact that SK has the fastest internet in the world, they have to access it through IE7.

You know any good Korean places near you?

I live in the DC area and there's a place in Annandale called "Honey Pig". That place is fucking amazing. Great food, really cool atmosphere. If I were somehow a billionaire and could eat gold flaked fois gras every day, I'd still go there
>>
>>54239803
No. Not any affordable ones anyway. I envy the amount of Koreans your have.

I have spent entirely to many hours on finding good Jajangmyeon and cheap soju in Denmark

But u guess I came to the wrong place to ask about that. Not many of them post here.
