Anyone know much about electrical, or should I make a standalone thread?

If I have a battery bank that outputs 12V/4A, how would that handle a laptop whose aging battery supplies 11.1V/5.6A?
Now let's say I have a solar cell that outputs 2.5A at best. Would it be smart to plug that into the battery bank while charging the laptop? This will be all with conditioned DC power cables, pretty sure.

I'm not going to do this, I'm just curious if it's possible. Some of the rMBPs (late 2013 at least) have SSDs that are installed in a PCIe 2.0 slot. If you removed the SSD and booted off an external drive, could you use an adapter like pic related to install a GPU on the rMBP through the slot the SSD used to be installed on? Obviously you'd need a PSU connected to the GPU. If that did work, would the video display on the laptop screen or would you need to connect the GPU to an external monitor in order to utilize the GPU? And obviously I'm assuming this is using Windows on the macbook.

Will do. Start by telling us what you want to use it for.
>CPU
is fine.
>HSF (CPU Cooler)
The 212 EVO is smaller, cheaper, and will cool better, but is a tiny bit louder. You're better off buying it. Read the /g/ sticky and Logical Increments, obviously, if you haven't already.
>MoBo
You're pissing like fifty extra dollars away by getting a board that's meant for heavy CPU overclocking. If you don't know what I mean by that, go back to LogInc and the sticky.
>RAM
You can probably get 2400DDR4 RAM for a bit cheaper, but that brand is fine.
>Storage
Everyone will tell you to get a SSD, either instead of or along with your HDD, if it's in your budget. They're obnoxiously fast. The Samsung 850 EVO 250GB drive is one of the better deals for price/performance ratio.
>GPU (Video Card)
If you're not planning to game at 60fps1080p, that build probably won't need anything stronger than, say, a 750ti. Otherwise your choice is fine.
>Case
Any case that fits your parts is fine.
>PSU
Probably decent but not great. Semi-modular sounds like crap - either pay for full modularity or save on a non-modular unit. Use Outervision's PSU Calculator to see if you can't find something better.
>Monitor
Is actually really good, but no matter how stupid you are, Amazon isn't a company that deserves your hard-earned money.
>Why?
Because they're shit, that's why. Search around a bit more. Dell, Asus, and Acer are far and away the most reliable distributors for 21.5- and 23-inch monitors.

In conclusion, read the goddamn sticky.

public int getSafePosition(int n) {
// find value of L for the equation

As a weeb, I'd like to work in Japan as a programmer. Yes, I'm fully aware of the long hours and low pay. Still, I have a few questions:

To any of you have worked there, what is the work environment like?

Not sure what you're trying to connect to what, or why the fuck you'd consider using VGA.

There is no VGA to DVI-D adapter unless it's an active converter box. If it's a passive adapter, it's going to be either DVI-A or a proprietary thing for one specific video card designed to output the one signal over the other jack.

Go with a plain DVI-D cable if you can.

I'll sometimes use them if I just need some little DLL that's difficult to obtain otherwise or that you'd need to download a 500 MB bundle to get. Or like if my Wine needs an MS DLL I can't get from MS apart from dissecting a Windows install.

>>54232832
You need to format it to something that's easily supported on both Windows and Linux. That would be FAT. But there's a file size limit.

Personally, I would format your drive to ext4 (or brtfsehtosue or whatever you want) then see if there's a utility for Windows. IIRC there's one on Windows for ext3/4 but you can't use Windows explorer, you have to drag/drop through the utility.

There could be a better answer to this though. I don't know why Linux supports NTFS in a werid way. Some distros are better about this than others.

Sorry, senpai, I think you're out of luck. This is a real low level thing that talks to the battery firmware. I know on ThinkPads, the charge thresholds stick on the battery until it's overwritten. On my Samsung, there's a switch for it in Windows and in the BIOS screen. Try checking there.

If it's not in the BIOS, you can try one last hailmary and dualboot Windows. My guess is that if it's like the ThinkPads, the battery will remember the charge Thresholds after you boot into Linux.
>>
>>54233455
I think dell has a battery software for windows. I already have win 7 installed so I can try that later. I'll also check out the bios, dell allows many configurations with their latitude line.. So you are saying that, when I activate the treshold in windows, this will also affect linux because the battery remembers it?
(I honestly expected that modern laptops have a switch which cuts of the battery once it's charged)
>>
Can I make a burrito with just cheese and rice?
>>
>>54233484
Right. But like they said, it all depends on how the manufacturer decided to implement it.
My Samsung kept the Threshold when I replaced its battery. Here the decision seems to be stored on the motherboard.
My ThinkPad'll apply it to whatever battery I plug it into and it stuck after I reformatted and didn't install Lenovo Power manager. In this case, it's on the battery.
Good luck, anon. Reply back here when you get around to it. I'll add it to my mental notepad.

I'm considering upgrading my CPU/mobo because I feel like one of the two is most likely damaged and their performance is lacking
I waited for the skylake CPU's to come out to have more choice and maybe get a drop in price of the older CPUs. However it seems that going with the 6600K over the 4690k would require me to buy a far more expensive motherboard (~150 compared to the 1150 socket's ~50) and new ram, which I don't mind too much as it's starting to get a bit too little as well and a 2x4GB set is around the same price for DDR3 & DDR4

Would you agree with logicalincrement's decision to go with the skylake lineup to have access to the DDR4 ram and better CPU if it means spending another 10-20 extra on the cpu and around 100 extra on the motherboard?

Currently running an i5 760 @2.8GHz in a P7P55-M with 6gb(3x2gb) ddr3

tl;dr is 6600k with new mobo worth the extra 100-120 it'd cost to get a 4690k with new mobo?
