Who /dock/ here?
>tfw no reason to own a desktop anymore
>>54225692
What am i looking at ? Is this some kind of extension with retro useless bullshit on it ?
>>54225692
I'm getting 'balding technician with moustache who mutters under his breathe' vibes from this contraption.
>>54225816
>doesn't know what a dock is
how new are you? or rather how young are you, cause kids today don't knob bout muh docking stations
At least dock into a sweet monitor and mouse/keyboard
>>54225692
/here/
i swapped the disk drive for a 1tb hard drive though. and i have an egpu
>>54225692
I have one for my T420. Works really nice.
My office makes extensive use of docking stations but most of our employees work remotely. Everything is setup so they can simply undock at home and dock in the office on days they need to come in. It is nice to easily take a notebook between two setup workstations.
>>54225692
me
>tfw no modern SelectaDock successor
>>54225692
That dust and scuff marks are triggering me
>>54225843
>Kids don't know the truth about the docking station
Dude, wtf.
Just buy a descent pc from the beginning, and you wont need to add some old extension shit on it.
Maybe you are using a more recent one, and i hope so, because the main advantage of this seem to be the battery extension, witch should be dead on a old model like OP's picture.
>>54225983
Those are signs of love
>>54225816>>54225692
It's a dock for a laptop you fucking knob
Oh shit I just pooped
>>54226038
Uhm, there are docks for PCs as old as a year ago (Dell E-Port models)
Its a lot more convenient to dock your laptop straight into your monitor, keyboard, mouse, charger, hard drives etc. all at once than manually plug them in each at a time.
>>54226038
>just buy a laptop with dual 24" monitors and surround sound
>>54225692
Max Comfy. Got a 2nd 2" 16:10 dell on the way too.
>>54226038
>It's another "I've never worked a day in my life, here's my opinion on something commonly used in the professional area!" episode
>>54226038
>the main advantage of this seem to be the battery extension
No.
The main purposes are:
- not having to mess with wires every time you connect your laptop.
- having extra ports.
I take my laptop home with me in case I can't get to the office the next day.
And at the office I simply dock it and everything is ready to go.
>Credit card reader
>>54226038
You cannot possibly be serious
>>54226212
Some business require smartcard's for muh security or as credentials
>>54226091
>as old as a year ago
I bought a dock for my brand new T460p this month.

Wow, it seem like i just lose an internet argument.
+1 internet for you guys.
>>54226038
>that's OLD! just buy a giant overheating gaming brick with a 20'' monitor instead
/v/eddit everyone
>file size too big
Fucking HDR.
Anyways, 2 HP 23" and a docking station for a HP Elitebook 9740m.
>>54226248
I always wonder how often they forget to remove them at the end of the day.
Or isn't that how it works?
>>54226298
Yes! one more for my retirement savings.
>>54226313
some are just swipe but the more secure ones stay in the reader and you can't logout/shutdown all the way without removing the card
>>54226305
Or do it the modern and hip Apple way (ie: the shitty way).
>>54226350
>you can't logout/shutdown all the way without removing the card
That's pretty neat.
>>54226305
I meant laptop, sorry.
But still, half of the extension on this dock is obsolete.
>>54225692
Kill it with fire and piss
that looks fucking hideous and I'm sure it's a pain in the ass to use, these retarded neckbeard meme trends really are getting out of hand now
>>54225692
>tfw shit-tacular overheating due to blocked vent port
>tfw taking dock apart and removing the alignment jig which is blocking the vent makes docking ur laptop involve much more effort
>tfw laptop still overheats while docked anyway
>tfw need USB fan to cool laptop
>tfw none of the fans last longer than a few weeks
fuck lenovo
>>54226407
You literally have to press a button to remove it, to attach it you only press it into place, it can't get any easier to use
>>54226394
Muh legacy is still used in business, anyways, all of those are still quite useful, and that's a somewhat old dock, iirc newer ones only have the same ports as the laptop
>>54226448
It seems you're retarded
>>54226448
>mfw my t420 actually runs cooler in the dock than just on my desk
>>54226485
thats IMPOSSIBLE
all t420's overheat while docked
>>54226407
>I'm sure it's a pain in the ass to use
It isn't.
Attaching everything is easier than on any computer.
And then you literally just slab the laptop on.
Thinkpad Advanced Dock is god-tier.
>>54226505
Its only a 5c difference and my laptop never goes above 75c so i dont know what you are talking about.
Actually just bought a dock, even though I don't really need one. Slowly moving away from my desktop since I don't really play that many games anymore so the dock makes it that much easier.
>>54226455
>iirc newer ones only have the same ports as the laptop
With the new Thinkpads you gain VGA, DVI, and fill size display port.
>>54226038
>>54226298
there is no fucking way you are over 18, you type in the exact same edgy manner as i did when i was under 15 years old
shut the fuck up
ive wanted one but i dont have the desk space for my t42, dock, keyboard, monitor and a mouse
i also already own a thinkstation and i dont want to get rid of it
>>54225692
Why are you using an old POS? Get a Surface Pro or something.
No

I'd rather have a 5k monitor with a desktop CPU thanks.
>>54228739
Oh nose adding a piece of hardware to a dock?! Muh security! Muh privacy! Stop being a shill about that shit and pic related on a c2d from egay.
Is there a practical use for this if I already have a desktop?
>>54225879
Link to your egpu ? Plsanon
