The fact that Nvidia's 80% dominance of the PC market means nothing when compared to AMD's unrivaled dominance of the ENTIRE Console market.

That and price+failure rate due to over heating.
>>
>>54217802
Consoles are a drop in the ocean compared to the entire supercomputers being built using Nvidia products. AMD are a joke, a corpse on life support and you're just trying to raise their stock from worthless so you can make less of a loss on their shares.
>>
>>54217802
>>54217788
This is stupid. AMD barely turns a profit on these contracts which is why Nvidia never wanted them in the first place.
>>
>>54217816
Consoles aren't about profit so much as they are about branding and making sure developers focus on YOUR architecture designs and optimising for them.
>>
>>54217816
Nvidia didn't get the contract. OMG GUISE THEY NEVER WANTED IT!!!!
>>
>>54217830
How is that of any use in the actually profitable PC sector? Why are you so butthurt, fanboy?
>>
>>54217847
If you can't understand how that's any benefit to a company, you ought to go back to school and learn the basics.
>>
>>54217856
If you optimise exclusively for AMD in the PC market then you'll kill your studio because, guess what, you're locking yourself out of the majority market. No one in the real world who isn't some insane fanboy gives a shit that AMD is used on consoles, it's just a way for them to bleed money.
>>
I'm fairly sure they don't even know what they're doing but they have the money to splash it around the industry.
>>
>>54217898
Who the fuck said about optimising exclusively? I sure as hell didn't. What I said (with better explanation for you) is you get a FREE optimisation because of the hardware already being in consoles, developers CANNOT afford to half ass it to begin with.
>>
>>54217918
No need to get so defensive, kiddo.

>>54217931
>Explain for retard
>LOL Y SO DEFENSIV :DDDD
>>
>>54217816
> AMD barely turns a profit on these contracts

Only nvidiots would say something absurd like this. It would be retarded to turn down such a high profile deal. Consoles sell millions and millions each year, that's a huge chunk of profit to be turning down.

Quads spoke the truth.
>>
>>54217938
0.01% of that money goes to amd idc really lmao AMD are finished
>>
>>54217972
I'm pretty sure it's a lot more than 0.01%. A console is nothing without processor. Pretty much the most important piece of the entire console.

And this is not just a CPU, it's a APU . I'm sure Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are paying at least 100 bucks per APU, maybe more. Multiple that by the millions of consoles sold.... that's a huge source of money right there.

This is no small deal. AMD has the entire console market in it's hands. You'd be a fool to claim Nvidia did not want this deal.
>>
>>54218011
If it's so good for them, why is their stock in the toilet?
>>
is no one going to talk about how amd's stock rose nearly 60% today?
>>
>>54218052
this is /g/, fool.
not the place for valid arguments.
>>
>>54218052
Pump and dump. These guys are in on it, they probably bought stock in 2014 so they're still in the hole.
>>
>>54217847
are you retarded for real or is this just a ruse?
>>
>>54218043
Their stock recently skyrocketed. And stocks don't reflect quality of products anyway.

Also fuck you for moving goalpost when you're losing that argument about consoles.
>>
>all the butthurt nvidiots itt
literally just buy amd
>>
It never ceases to fascinate me how you people argue about this Nvidia vs AMD stuff like it's something personal.
>>
>>54217731
For one thing, they lie about everything. Their card specifications(3.5 of vram instead of 4), their ability to support new technologies(async computing). They also only support people who are going to pay, their open source drivers are shit, to quote linus "they are one of the worst companies in the open source community". Anybody who supports these douchebags is a guy who probably just cares about playing whatever shitty AAA title is out at 100 fps.
>>
>>54218011
Nvidia didn't want that deal only because both Microsoft and Sony wanted an APU, not separate CPU+GPU.
Sure, Nvidia has the Tegra, but current Tegra wasn't up to the job and the R&D that would've been required to be spent to achieve a Tegra capable of AMD's standards... well, Nvidia couldn't do it, at all.
If it wasn't for that, they'd have wanted it, but they knew they had no chance at competing with AMD on the APU market.

AMD aren't making much profit per console, but profit is still profit. Nvidia are hurting from this, but it'd have been a drain on their resources, ultimately.
>>
>>54218503
>Nvidia are hurting from this

bwahahahaha
>>
>>54218503
Tegra is a mobile platform, it has never been and will never be intended as a game console platform.
>>
Nothing. AMD is finished and bankrupt
>>
>>54219011
>AMD is finished and bankrupt

Gee, it sure does seem like it with their stock increasing by 60%.
>>
>>54219325
60% increase of nothing is still nothing m8
>>
>>54218011
AMD are selling every one of those APUs for $100-120 a pop.

A comparable APU (doesn't actually exist;) is on shelves for $180. With a much, much weaker (re: smaller) GPU part, designed to integrate with a CPU's DDR3 interface instead of GDDR5 or DDR3 and a custom eDRAM

Let's imagine AMD is coming out with $5 for every console sold.
That's $275 million dollars in profit for SIX BILLION DOLLARS worth of product over the course of two and a half years already.

In almost every business scenario that's considered so bad it's a loss.
