I just sold a 17" mid 2010 mbp for about 900$ give or take, in the local currency.

I usually see Dell latitudes, elitebooks, and thinkpads. There are macbooks, but it's far from being a majority. It looks like business people stopping for coffee and getting a little work done. I rarely see the self glorifying hipsters that everyone seems to have seen.

If you don't want Microshit Botnet and don't want to fuck with Loonix all day, or want to run popular commercial apps, then OS X is it.
Since Apple is the only source of OS X machines for those who don't want to fuck with Hackintosh, Macs hold their value.
That and MacBooks are incredibly well built. They're not plastic cloner chinkshit. Nobody in the industry has comparable build / screen / trackpads.
Also: Moore's Law is effectively dead on the desktop and 5yo systems are within 30% of the performance of the latest and greatest. You can open any of those MacBooks up, max the RAM to 8 or 16 gig, drop in a SSD, and the thing will run great for years to come.
