In a few months, Microsoft® Edge™ will finally get webm support, extensions, paste and go and more.

So, /g/, why aren't you using the best web browser on the market that's neither a botnet not a blosty, RAM-eating POS?

-Posted from my Microsoft® Surface™ Book via Microsoft® Edge™.
>>
since windows 10 launch i've been interested in edge. i actually like it.

once they add extension support for things like ublock origin and webm i will give it a go.

Other browsers have had that support for a long time, should have had it from the start.
What the fuck were they doing the entire time they developed that shitty thing?
Did they think anyone would use an incomplete project? I guess they did considering they released windows 10.

>In a few months, this proprietary piece of shit that has been a piece of shit for well over a decade will be slightly less of a piece of shit.

Talk to me when they are open source, have apps/add-ons like Ublock Origin, Random Agent, Zenmate VPN, Flash Control, Better Privacy, NoScript, Self-destructing cookies, Disconnect, HTTPS Everywhere, Decentraleyes, and DNSSEC/TLSA Validator.

But hold on! Even if it gets ALL that, don't talk to me yet, because it still need to be able to configure the browser the way FF can with about:config. But even if you add that in, it still isn't enough. They also need to forbid false positives of HTTPS on their web browser.

Do ALL of that, and then MAYBE I'll give it a look, presuming that the source code inspection comes back clean. Of course, it will need to be available on Linux.

What the fuck? In a few months? The fucking thing hasn't been updated for like half a year since it came out. It can't even fucking go full screen.

It pisses me off because I wanted it to be good and to have a chance. They dropped the ball so hard it pisses me off even though I have no stake in it. Is there like 3 people working on it? Why wasn't it in the last update? HOLY SHIT.
>>
>>54216400
I've got enough friends, thanks.
>>
>>54216406
Fucking paste and go. Paste and go, is what they got done in almost SIX MONTHS. How is that possible? i just can't get over it.
>>
>>54216330
The whole point of an incognito mode is to make sure nothing is logged. In edges fucking incognito mode it actively saves and records history, leaving it useless for my porn
>>
>>54216425
Are you shitting me? They didn't LAUNCH with that?

How in the fuck do you not include that in the base version? This isn't 1995. MS had better stop treating their web browsers like it is.
>>
>>54216447
So what does incognito mode actually do on edge? Is it just an unfinished piece of crap?

Also, why does MS have the mentality of, "Fuck it, ship it. We'll patch it later," and then never bother to actually patch it in such a way that makes it what it was supposed to be? I mean, even Windows XP, which had 3 service packs and hundreds, if not thousands of updates, still had mountain-sized holes in it when they discontinued support 13.5 years later.
>>
>>54212125
why the fuck would anyone with a functioning brain use Windows 10?
>>
>>54216485
It literally writes your history down and saves it to your computer, even with incognito on. Its fucking retarded
>>
>>54216549
So what does incognito mode offer that isn't in the regular mode? Is it just broken/unfinished, or is there actually something different?
>>
>>54216629
It says incognito in the top right, thats it
>>
>>54216447
Maybe you should just come out of the closet.
>>
>>54216716
So it's unfinished, just like everything MS pushes out into the world. I'm so fucking glad I dropped them.

>>

Who cares what their stock is? What matters to me is that I'm happy with what I'm using. Other people being happy with what they have makes no difference to me.

Lots of people enjoy beef, and it's doing well in the market. Doesn't mean I want beef. I'll keep on sticking with bison and deer meat. And if the beef market does well, good for the owners of cattle.

No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't rejoice in people becoming unemployed, nor would I rejoice a reduction in the freedom of choice.

I don't take my joy from the misery/failures of others. I take joy from the accomplishments of myself.

I have been using Edge as an extension of Firefox for a week now and I like it. It's minimalistic and youtube HD videos uses 10% CPU compared to chrome that uses 60-70% on my Intel Core i7 4500U. I can't get youtube HD videos to play at all without stuttering and freezing.

That's because Microsoft knows how to compile software that actually takes advantage of the hardware. When you have shit like Chrome and Firefox being written for "muh multiplatform" bullshit you end up with a wide range of supported hardware that has shit performance.

It's not just that, Apple manage with Safari - it's being able to take advantage of the host system in such a deep way to put it simple.

It's really fucking annoying because you get much more extensions and shit on Chrome/FF but Edge, Safari, IE all have far superior hardware acceleration support and power efficiency than anything else on their platforms.
Also Edge and Safari are the only browsers that support hls m3u8 streams chances are FF will never get that and iirc Chrome confirmed they would never do it and instead rape people with latest un-accelerated vp* flavor they shit out.
>>
>>54218206
>You are right and it's a big problem in the windows world it seems.

It's not a problem in Windows world.
FF and Chrome work better on OSX and Windows than on Linux mainly thanks to driver support on Windows but they still perform like shit in many ways compared to native platforms browser(s).

I like Edge, at least the promise of it. I might give it another try once Redstone hits and it will get several useful extensions.

But right now it's barebones, it has nothing to offer over other browsers. If Edge is still shit after Redstone update and FF doesn't get fixed I might switch to Chrome, but I like Chrome even less.
