It's because Intel CPUs have better single core performance. As to AMD having low single core performance. Thats why AMD is good for budget gaming PCs. The reason behind a 6-core AMD processor being priced at $100 and a Intel 6-core being priced at a few hundred is because Intel chips are do much more powerful. For example: Browsing the web would be better on a G3258 then a FX-6300. Why? Web browsing only uses one core, and Intel has better performing cores.

Because people tend to think Intel is the best and AMD suck, so people would buy Intel regardless of price. It's not exactly wrong... for DX11... But DX12 is a different story, AMD can actually match Intel on DX12.
