Because it is just like arch. I don't have time to keep fixing things every time I update. I'll stick to debian for now and wait for devuan.
>>
>>54201893
i'm guessing you had the pleasure of getting bit by the dhcpcd-6.10 update, where dhcpcd opted to remove the normally present-by-default wpa-supplicant hook. the void wiki has been updated to take care of this.

https://wiki.voidlinux.eu/Network_Configuration

(i hate to point this out because i know it doesn't matter to the user, but this was actually dhcpcd's fault, not void's. annoyed me like hell as well, but that's what they did.)

I use an encrypted Void installation on my IBM X60 - here's my desktop right now, although I'm using an external 27" monitor instead of the laptop display. It's also Libreboot'd. Wonderful machine.

why the fuck would i, or anyone else, use this when more mature distros doing the same things already exist?
>>
>>54202543
>Why would you use X when Y exists?
>Why would you use Y when X exists?

Because it's different.
It uses a fast package manager that no other distro uses. It uses runit instead of systemd. It's very lightweight.
>>
>>54202566
runit is probably one of the most important reasons for most people
>>
>>54202566
yeah, a package manager with no packages in its repo.

as for systemd, this isn't the first or only distro that doesn't use it. hell, there's a fork of debian in the works right now specifically to avoid using systemd. i'm sure more will follow as the anti-systemd hysteria continues.

lightweight? so are a lot of other distros.

there has to be a selling point here somwhere. what is it?

Have you ever used Void? It doesn't have every DE but aside from that it has pretty much everything you would need.

As I said, if there's no reason for you to give it a shot then just don't fucking use it

Also >>54202739 this
Just try it out. If you don't like it, use a distro you like.
>>
>>54202605
>selling points
>linux
You just pick it if you like it or fuck off if you don't. Selling points don't exist in linux distros as technically any distro can be made to act like any other distro.
>>
>>54202756
>"fast and lightweight" aren't the only things I've said about Void.

yeah, they essentially are.

i'm sure their package manager is fast or whatever, but it's not any different or better than something like pacman. it just fucking isn't. it's a package manager.

as for systemd, i couldn't care less, and neither could you or anyone else here. there's nothing wrong with systemd, at least not anything that would make you completely avoid a distro to stay away from it. if you think otherwise, you spend too much time reading drivel written by weird kids. i'm not the biggest fan of poetteringware by a long shot, but i'm also not delusional or computer illiterate.

what we're left with is "fast and lightweight" and that's basically meaningless marketing garbage

>>54202805
>as technically any distro can be made to act like any other distro.

then why use this one as opposed to one that's already established and has robust repos?

It is not pacman. It is different. That's like saying apt and pacman are the same thing.

I don't care that you don't care
>and neither could you or anyone else here
So because you don't care about systemd nobody cares about it, right?

no one said it was pacman. i said it was functionally similar to pacman, because it is. a quick peek at the void website makes that fairly clear.

>That's like saying apt and pacman are the same thing.

they are, in as much as they're both package managers. as in, they manage fucking packages.

and there isn't anything glaringly wrong with systemd, and avoiding systemd isn't the reason you're using this distro.

>>
>>54202963
If you don't care which package manager your distro uses then fine. There are people who care about it though.

>there isn't anything glaringly wrong with systemd
That's only your opinion. I disagree and many other people disagree to.

>avoiding systemd isn't the reason you're using this distro
Don't pretend like you can read my mind. It's a reason for a lot of people to use a distro because it doesn't use systemd.
>>
>>54203001
i like it because it's not using systemd, always has pretty recent software but isn't breaking like most of the other rolling release distros, it's often using BSD licensed software instead of GPL, good software availability (I used fedora before and the software availability was way worse).

>>54203068
