WHY IS FREETARD SOFTWARE SO GARBAGE, EXACTLY?
>>
Works on my machine
>>
Why don't you fix it yourself you fucking idiot. That's what open source software is all about. If you can't you pay for professionals to do the work for you.
>>
>>54199923
How about no.
>>
I've also been using DD-WRT for some time and it was kind of shit. But recently I switched to OpenWRT and it's working pretty great.
>>
>>54199923
>Why can't you just fix firmware issue for a specific device model

You can't either, faggot.

Am I suppose to fix my kernel myself too? In fact, should I just write all my own software instead?
>>
>>54199930
Then pay up.

>>54199941
If you can, why not.
>>
>>54199862
Been running DD-WRT for years, there's absolutely no problem with it whatsoever.

Maybe you shouldn't buy half-ass "supported" devices that barely works.

>Maybe you shouldn't buy half-ass "supported" devices that barely works.

It's a TP-link router.

Just apparently a very common issue with it that's remained unsolved.

This, I tried DD-WRT as well, it's absolute garbage-tier. Webinterface hangs all the time, WiFi is unstable etc.

Use openwrt. See pic related, works like a charm. No WiFi hiccups, no other downtimes, no slowdowns, can use host-files to do adblocking on router-level.

Last restart was only after I upgraded from 14 to 15.

I wouldn't buy a router that doesn't support it again. But then again, seeing how well it works, I don't think I need another router for at least a few years.

Sweet, I'll try that today bro.

It's obviously YOUR fault for using wireless-fi like a normie.
>>
>>54199862
dd-wrt werks fine on my ancient Gigaset SX763
>>
Does openwrt come with a web interface like ddwrt or is it cli only? Apparently it fixes a long standing bug with my router, so I'm tempted to switch.

It worked great until that issue.(which seems limited only to my router model)

>obtain.firmware and Latest OpenWrt Release - required image file is "openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin" for v1.x routers, "openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr1043nd-v2-squashfs-factory.bin" for v2.x routers. Files can be found in the "ar71xx" directory. You can use the quick links from the table below. If you have "Please choose a file to upgrade" message again and again, filename is probably too long and you have to rename image to for example firmware.bin.
see https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd

There's a lot of shit in that article, I guess you can safely ignore most of it unless you run into trouble, it wasn't that difficult for me anyway

>upload correct image to webinterface and flash it
>set up wan ports and wifi
>pretty much done
>>
>>54200621
Should I factory hard reset it or whatever?

Or just flash from where it is now?
>>
>>54200693
flash it from where it is now

the flash will overwrite anything
>>
>>54200709
ok m8 doing it now. Cya on the otherside(if it works).

You dun goofed. You should have done your research before buying a router that wasn't 100% compatible.

I installed OpenWRT on a router and could never enable wireless.

>You should have done your research before buying a router that wasn't 100% compatible.

I had the router much earlier before though.

And it IS compatible, it's just literally an obscure bug that happened to a lot of people with no fix. Not really mentioned anywhere unless you start searching "[router model] dd-wrt dropping connections".
>>
>>54200845
I do know the feeling. The first router that i put DD-WRT on had very limited space to flash DD-WRT. I could only run a very old version.

If you do upgrade your router down the road, definitely try out DD-WRT. It's pretty amazing when compared to stock. Especially adblocking via hosts

I will when I move out soon :^)

for the limited time I did use DD-wrt the panel was a little too confusing for me. I'm not really an expert. OpenWrt so far looks pretty easy to follow.

I-I've never owned a router; what does changing the firmware allow you to do?

Besides adding more options and settings, are there any benefits to installing custom firmware? Any speed improvements?
>>
>cp /usr/src/linux/.config /tmp ; emerge --sync ; emerge DuvN ; cd /usr/src/linux ; cp /tmp/.config . ; make oldconfig ; make ; cp arch/x86/boot/bzImage /boot/kernel ; shutdown -hr now
That's all I need to do to keep my Gentoo up to date. Why the fuck doesn't OpenWrt require a complete flash just to update?
>>
>>54201073
>doesn't
Does, even. It's retarded to have to manually update a router.
>>
>>54201047
>Besides adding more options and settings, are there any benefits to installing custom firmware? Any speed improvements?

Much more customization it patches many security flaws on stock(some things are SO FUCKING SHIT INSECURE it's like they literally hired Pajeets to implement them), can change network signal strength, much better options than stock on things like QoS, filtering MACs, etc etc.
