I'll start, they'll never know what it's like to have only <200mb being used while idle.

It only happens to certain MSI motherboards with a faulty EFI implementation. If you erase the EFIVARS on these affected motherboards, the motherboard gets bricked. Windows is actually capable of bricking the motherboard in the same way because it's not a Linux or Systemd problem, it's a motherboard problem.

I'll never know what it is using an OS with no hardware accelerated video decoding on web browsers.

I'll never know what it is using an OS where you have to manually compile shit to have several versions of the same program coexist because the "wonderful" package managers are unable to handle this basic use case.

Hibernation works best in Gnu/Linux. On windows it always broke some of my programs forcing me to restart my computer.
>I'll never know what it is using an OS where you have to manually compile shit to have several versions of the same program coexist because the "wonderful" package managers are unable to handle this basic use case.

Because he thinks it makes him look like an "old school" computer user, and he's too stupid to use a UNIX-like OS for the "actual" old school poser image.
>>
>>54201437
Nope. All the compositors are buggy as fuck, hardware accelerated video decoding isn't enabled by default in any browser and forcing enable it causes crashes (for example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1463598), hibernate doesn't work reliably, especially when using propietary drivers, you can't install multiple versions of any program on most package managers, and of course the last one doesn't even need any explanation.

But keep believing everything is fine. I bet that 1% marketshare and the people that go back to Windows after trying Linux is just some Microsoft conspiracy! Year of Linux on the desktop!

Apparently you don't.

Look up the memory hierarchy so you gain an understanding of why it's important to use as much memory as possible on frequently / recently used resources even if said resources aren't currently being used. Cache misses cause a lot of cycles to waste waiting on retrieving from a disk.

But Lennart/Kay/whoever isn't at fault.

Even before systemd, mounting efivarfs as rw was pretty common, because tools like grub-install/efibootmgr need to modify them.
For instance, look at the Gentoo wiki page for efibootmgr, which suggests rw-mounting: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Efibootmgr#Configuration
