I've got a really weird problem and it's fucking me over, I just put together a computer for a friend, whenever he uses the PC, the CPU Fan spins, whenever the computer idles back to the login screen, the CPU fan and another fan stops spinning, You can rule out the thought of the PC being cooled enough that the CPU fan stops spinning due to low temps.

It's a god damn i7 950 with the default CPU cooler, it idles at 50C.

I have a few questions.

1) is it possible to properly hide the windows task bar? As in remove that 1 pixel? I want to make it like when you're in fullscreen firefox and have to press the windows button for it to appear

2)Can themes really not be installed properly on windows 8? Surely there's a work around by now?
>>
>>54199521
>is it possible to properly hide the windows task bar?
just kill explorer.exe
>>
>>54199550
thats a bit extreme dont you think?

Actually that stops the taskbar from being used at all and i still want explorer to be there, i just dont want it to be visible or pop up when i put my cursor at the bottom

reposting from dead thread

My computer powered down during an intensive CPU/GPU load twice. There are no crash dumps, there was no BSOD, my temps were all very reasonable, there are no memory problems, I get no GPU artifacts, I have not changed or installed any new drivers.
Is it safe to assume it's the PSU and go ahead an change it? I don't have a spare one to test it and if I'm gonna buy a new one I'll get a decent one so I wanna make sure I didn't overlook any other possibilities before spending the money. Is there a way to test a PSU without a multimeter?

I've been trying to learn networking and understand how it works. One thing I don't really get is IP address routing over long distances, does somebody here know enough to explain this to me?

So I have an IP address of Server A. Assuming the address is valid, when I send a packet to A, every step of the way the next node either:
1) Doesn't know the route to A and sends the packet to its default gateway
2) Knows the route to A and directs the packet to A through said router

There are 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses, where exactly are these all stored? It's a one-way road with no junctions if the packet is sent to the same default gateway every time, so logically that road leads to a router that knows all addresses. With v4 that's feasible, but I doubt that it's the way it works. IPv6 address space, on the other hand, contains 3.4×10^38 addresses, how would that work?

TL;DR: Where are the routes to all IP addresses stored?
>>
>>54200221
Routers have tables that determine where a packet is sent based on its IP address, most IP subnets have a general geographic location associated with them. Eventually it will make its way to a node close to the IP that knows exactly how to reach it.
>>
>>54200328
This is how I imagined it at first too, but the network of my home IP X.X.X.0/24 contains a Canadian server and I live in Yurop.

Okay faggots, I've never had a gaming PC in my life and I think it's about time I changed that.

How much would a pc cost that'd be able to play.....say Fallout 4 on high settings?

FPS doesn't matter honestly.
>>
>>54200390
be nicer pls! a pc to play fallout would be 1200, on low easily 6-800, which will be consol tier

Reposting: I reinstalled Windows 10 (64) and my keyboard randomly stopped working. I tried to fix it in Device Manager but it tells me the drivers are up to date. It offers to try to fix it by reinstalling the driver and tells me to restart, but I've done that 5 times now and it hasn't helped. Some usb devices like my mouse or Xbox One controller work no problem, but my keyboard and also my DS4 controller don't work anymore.

Maximus VI Hero motherboard by the way, tried downloading chipset drivers but when I tried to install it told me I already had newer drivers installed. I really don't know what to try now. Typed this using the on-screen keyboard and it sucks shit, I would really appreciate some help.

Is there a way to install packages offline in Linux? I have a Debian desktop that I want to install somethings on but it doesn't have access to the internet (it never will).

Can you uninstall the drivers? Try that and then install.
>>

Download the .deb for the package, move it to the machine and use dpkg.
>>
>>54200584
Well I uninstalled them and restarted. Apparently that worked, feel kind of stupid for not trying that in the first place. Don't know if it's a permanent fix yet but at least it's working for now, thank you very much.

So after I restored and updated my Windows 10 OS (10586.218) yesterday and got everything set up I go play some games and some keep crashing because of insufficient memory, I don't know how to fix this and this has never happened before, these are games I played before without any issues.

I reinstalled Windows 10 (64) and now DS4Windows no longer works properly. It was working fine, but now when I try to use it (or InputMapper, tried that too), my DS4 controller is recognized and can be rumble tested, the lights work etc but I can't map anything in this screen. None of my button presses do anything. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers a few times now but nothing seems to work. My Xbox One controller works completely fine using the same usb slot. I'm following the instructions on the site correctly and I've met all the requirements too. Any ideas please?

What can be making noise when i turn my PC on for the first 5-10 minutes? I suspect it's the PSU.

If it were HDDs or fans, the noise wouldn't just go away, right? It's because all the power is needed when it starts up = huge shock for the PSU, and something in it has gone wrong.

>>
>>54199472
It could be the settings in the bios, have you checked the bios for the temperature controls/settings, IIRC there should be some options you can fuck around with in order to change the value's for the cpu fan. Like setting a limit of how much degree the pc should idle at and shut off, if it ever reaches critical levels. Or there is a program that is controlling your cpu fan, and it tells your system to idle, when the pc isn't in use and it stops your cpu fans. It might be that windows disables the other cores and goes into an idle state, and one core is active, and that might be why it doesn't need much cooling.

Hi, /g/

I wish to root my Xperia Z5 Compact, and I only want to root it. So I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/root-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605

I need some hand-holding for this though.

* My current Android version is MM.
* My device is currently encrypted
* My device is backed up using the default Backup & Restore option, which is tied to my Google account

I suppose my first step should be backing up my TA (whatever that is) using that iovyroot tool. It says on the requirements:
* USB debugging enabled
* adb drivers installed (wat?)
* LP Kernel

I'm not sure if whether a simple TA backup requires all that. If it requires LP Kernel then that just defeats the entire purpose of what I'm trying to do here it seems.

So, what do I do?
>>
>>54202423
i'll try this thanks
>>
>>54202450
Just a question, if youre using a google account why do you want to root? If its just to "get rid of the bloat" you can disable it.

Make a backup of the system, make sure you have the rom for if anything goes wrong then just root.

The Settings above are for High

Again:

>----------------------
Minimum
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent

Recommended
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent
8 GB RAM
30 GB free HDD space
NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent

>----------------------

If you read exact you see other shit 100$ (thats the case if something missing).

In the end you get a PC for 800$ which can run all settings on high or maybe with some exceptions on ultra.

I've come to terms with merely disabling stuff, but what I want is for cleaning apps to actually function and not be ridiculously constrained by restrictions Google has put in and for my Lama app to actually shut down my mobile connection when I'm going to sleep and eating dinner so I don't get disturbed by calls at those times.

Basically I want some functionality. And I'd probably also like to use File Manager instead of File Commander (a default app with ads, dafuq). The former couldn't write on the microSD card due to these restrictions, which is essential for me since that card is for music which I like to transfer over bluetooth.

/g/ I really need so help. So I am trying to make a program in C that makes one child process, which makes another one, which executes a command given in a string with scanf. After that, the second child must return his stdout to the first child, and the first child must print everything in stdout. After print, I must give another command to execute. Everything ends after I write stop. The problem is, it prints forever and the processes never kill themselves. How can I kill both child processes exactly after the first one prints?

Do you guys think this will be a decent budget gpu? Do you think there will be overheating problems because of the one fan, etc? It has all-around nice reviews, but I want to make sure.

The case I am choosing supports only 11" gpus (more if I remove hard drive bays), and most gpus come at 10". So im thinking about choosing this gpu which is only a mere 6" so size wont be a potential issue. And I may do sli in the future if everything works ok.

there's wine and reactos, assuming by "alternative" you mean "binary-compatible"
wine essentially being a clone of windows' userspace, allowing windows programs to run atop various other operating systems

I think a better question is: will size be a problem for this case? Because almost all gpus seem to come at 10" and this case supports 11", which is pretty compact. Ive never built a pc so I have no idea how all of these measurements compare irl.

but if the GPU linked will work as well as the other 960s then I will probably just stick with that.

I'm using KitKat 4.4, 16gb (9gb reality) phone and storage issues is a constant issue for me, and all my media are on the SD, so I guess I'm just that one guy who downloads a shitload of apps. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Most glaring problem is trying to update the apps, they get bigger and more bloated day by day.

So you guys are saying Gingerbread can seamlessly transfer apps to SD fine, unlike KitKat's near useless partial attempt? Prior on knowing this I was thinking of going all out on the Nexus 6P, for $100 premium get 128gb internal, as a surefire overkill way to avoid that issue in the future altogether.

And btw, are there any app quirks for the ones that haven't updated their code for Gingerbread, they're still functional right?

My Gingerbread phone has 512mb internal, everything is on the SD card. It's a Gaming phone so I had a ton of apps. I created a partition and used link2SD with root though, something like that might still work on Lollipop.

Gingerbread is a really outdated OS though, I don't know why you'd considering moving to it. Some apps simply don't support GB anymore. Gingerbread was Android version 2.3, they're on 6.0+ now

Get code that hooks low-level TCP calls and compile it so that it refuses access to whatever program you want either via a usermode program or hardcoding the name you can use various means to figure out. The code is readily accessible and the windows SDK is easy to set up. It'll be a good experience too. Be sure to have a VM set up as well to not fuck with your primary OS when testing. Probably easier to get a firewall to do it for you if you don't want any bloat. Don't know how efficient windows firewall is. Maybe a router-level restriction will make things more reliable.

quick one lads
I'm building/buying a cheapo desktop, just to play games at console quality 2bh.
I've got 2 options really.

On eBay, there's a guy selling a 2500K, 12GB of RAM, an Asus Z68 Pro, and a good power supply and cooler in a shitty CIT case for £200.

Or I can get a used Dell Optiplex 790 PC for £150, with a 2500, 8GB of RAM, a decent PSU and a nice case.

I'm undecided on what to go for. I kind of don't want to spend the extra £50, because I don't want to OC the 2500K. Would you say a stock 2500 is still decent for a year or two?

In both cases I will be buying a used R9 290 to go in them, but the Dell I will have to buy a PSU too.

The ebay one doesn't have a GPU

Dell thing still doesn't have a GPU

Intel iGPUs are not that good, especially older gen. Really depends on what you're going to play.

An A10 would do you nicely. You can build a cheap PC with that for about $300, brand fucking new and with a full warranty.

8GGB of ram is just fine. You can add 8 more gigs later if you so wish. No need to change everything to suit ram. The K will give you some more leeway for the future, though again depending on what games you'll be playing you're fine. A stock 2500 is just fine for console games. PSU is not an issue as long as it's reliable enough to give you its rated wattage, so save your money unless power draw means a whole lot to you. Shiny cases are nice to have but not a necessity. I'd go with the Dell if I wanted to save some money. CPU is not really an issue for light/moderate gaming, that's mostly GPU.

R9 290 quality is inconsistent/unreliable out of the box, let alone used. Buying a new one is risky enough. Best get something else.
>>
>>54206496
The PSU is a 275w affair, but is 80+ gold as far as I can find.

I think its built thumbnails of every image ever saved.

I could pair it with something like a 280X

Roaming Profiles or just Redirected Folders?
Roaming is determined by the Profile Path, in the Profile tab in the properties of the user.
Roaming profiles is done in Group Policy

What would be a good high end phone to have that has a removable battery? I'll also look this up on my own but I'm more open to suggestion when other people tell me it might be good rather than just looking at random stats.

i have to buy a displayport <=> hdmi adapter (displayport on card, hdmi on monitor, intend to use hdmi cable). i saw one that had a 10x price compared to another. it said to be amd eyefinity certified. does that mean if i intend to use a certain number of monitors, i need the more expensive adapter (i'm going to connect one to hdmi and another to displayport with the hdmi adapter)? or can i just buy the cheaper one? is this snake oil like expensive hdmi cables?

Thanks.
It was the second thing you said. I didn't see it because I was expecting some sort of browse button where I had to select the path.

Upgraded from w7 to 10. How do I fix the start menu icons for my programs without having to reinstall? I've tried most of the fixes I found off google but nothing worked. I'm desperate to get the icons back but I don't know how. Much appreciated

I installed CM 12.1 on a friend's LG G2 a few weeks ago and now he's having issues with it: when he opens up the keyboard (AOSP keyboard) the phone seems to vibrate at random despite not typing and no notifications coming in. Sometimes it'll vibrate for around 10 seconds straight.
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this and what could be done to fix it?

"On November 10, 2014, NASA announced that it would be leasing the airfield to Google for 60 years"
but I don't know, could be anything. Let us know if they kill you, will ya?
