When you go to the craigslist subdirectory for your area, you'll find people in the commercial parts of your city/region selling Aerons. Those are companies that are trying to liquidate furniture, often because they're downsizing or upgrading their chairs (there are even newer, better chairs than the Aeron that executives demand, sometimes), or they're just moving to another region and shipping chairs themselves doesn't make as much sense as selling the ones they've got and having amazon or whoever ship the replacements (no kidding).
the point is, buy office furniture from a company; they'll have barely used the shit at all, and they're not as emotionally (read: irrationally) attached to the product, so they're more than willing to sell it at the discount it should get. I got the Aeron I have for ~350, which should have cost about twice that.

Couple years ago I was walking past the local church and they had a little sale going on outside, they were selling bits and bobs of various sorts, some things from parishioners and some things from the church itself, including some wooden chairs.
So I bought one, it cost me £1.
It's an old thing which had leather on it but that all fell away in short order so I just repacked the cushion into a pillowcase and it has served me well ever since.
I think it is from around the 30s and used to be from the old schoolhouse before it went to the church; it's very simple in construction but has just a few minor decorations and embellishments. Should last me a few years longer yet.

Bought an Aeron off eBay for $500 with all the adjustment options a few years back. Look for auctions out of California. There are tons of tech companies that go out of business and auctioneers will have hundreds of new in box Aeron chairs because these fucking businesses are cart before the horse guys and are all about appearances of their office from day one.
Just keep an eye out and you can get a new in box for half price.
