I could get like some gtard who has a dock with proper monitors mouse and keyboard all plugged in for a simple transition and a nas surviving with just a laptop if they don't do anything past text editing.
But what u don't get is how normies get by staring at a 13inch screen. Using a flat scissor switch keyboard thats directly infront of the monitor and a god damn touchpad all day, whilst having to choose between an ssd and more than like 500gb of storage. I'd probably killmyself. Using one to take notes in lecture is annoying enough. And i use a tiling wm rather then a clunky windows or osx ui that takes up space and makes multitasking a pain.

You have to agree with OP, laptops are fucking stupid for those that don't travel. CPUs and GPUs aren't just used for playing vydia and the ones on laptops are always dogshit. If you only need to program than a $150 AM1 build is still a much better choice than a chinkpad because of the upgradeability and better value.

I know that desktops are better performers at the same price range, but that is the compromise that you do for having a portable machine. I don't need a fucking tower + monitor + speakers + keyboard that is always in the same place. I'd much rather have a 200 euro Sandy Bridge durable ThinkPad or any other business laptop which is more than enough for light coding plus you get all the portability advantages of a laptop.

Doesn't matter when you don't use that extra power. A month ago I used an old Asus EEE with an Intel N270 Atom and 1 GB of RAM for 3 days while watching someone's house/animals for them and was able to do all of my email and shitposting without any issues. The only way the experience was noticeably different from using my desktop at home was that I only had a 9" screen instead of a 22" screen, which really just meant I could view a couple less posts at a time. While I'm not saying that I would use a computer that weak all of the time, it's good enough for most of the things I use my computer for that aren't playing games, and I haven't been able to get into any games more hardware intensive than those from late 2011 and could possibly go with one of the next generation APUs for all of my gaming needs if I wanted to build a new computer.

If I wanted power I'd build a server, and if you have a home personal server that's not under 24/7 load there's no sense in not attaching a keyboard and a monitor to it. But I don't.

There appears to be a few different companies making them. I think I have found three so far, but google is not the best at finding them. Most seem to incorporate. I stumbled across them when looking for laptops with standard parts, not paying double for laptop parts. Military terms and things like portable computers give slightly better results.
