Okay /g/, I love Google Chrome, but I want to stop sucking Mother Google's teat (at least on my desktop). I'm on Linux what should I switch over to? Post your favorite browser

Chromium

Doesn't Chromium phone home to Google though?

I stick to FF, due to privacy concerns. If you aren't concerned with your privacy, then Chromium and Opera are perfectly acceptable.

The thing is though I would switch if I didn't like the Chrome environment so much is there any way you can "chromify" Firefox?

Chromium has the same problem.

>>54180367
Depends what you mean by "chromify."
>>
>>54180387
Sorry for being vague, what I meant was like how can I feel a little more "at home" with Firefox?
>>
>>54180406
When's the last time that you used FF? It's not overly different from Chrome in its layout. You just use their add-on "store" instead of Google's app store.

If you're looking for privacy add ons, or something, I can help you with that. Random Agent Spoofer, Ublock Origin, Zenmate VPN, FlashControl, Better Privacy, Self Destructing Cookies, NoScript, HTTPS Everywhere, Decentraleyes, Disconnect, and DNSSEC/TLSA Validator are good starts.

If you're just talking about "skins," there are a plethora of them. The menu is very similar to Chrome, so if it isn't one of those things, I'm not sure what your concerns are.
>>
>>54180406
FF is a lot like chrome these days, but if you aren't willing to recognize that FF and chrome are different, you're going to be disappointed. It's like hoping that a Linux distro is going to be exactly like windows. If you want Windows, use windows. A linux distro like mint might be similar to windows, but they also WANT to be different from Windows, otherwise they would just be wasting their time.

uBlock has an option that fixes this.
>>
>>54180464
Not him, but that's a good list of extensions anon. I extend my thanks to you.

>Only a plugin which is easily circumvented.
Nothing you have stated challenges this statement.

Listen, if you want to use Chrome, Chromium, Opera, or even Maxthon, I'm not throwing stones. It's entirely up to you, and I'm not one to judge. Hell, I've used Maxthon in the past (back when I was on Win7, and privacy wasn't a concern to me), and rather liked it. Far be it from me to tell you what to use.

>>54180533
Remember to modify some stuff in your about:config, too. A good place to start is privacytools.io, but don't stop there. Here's another good place to go for privacy tweaks: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=137105&start=20

Just ctrl+F "about:config". Some of that stuff is repeats from privacytools.io, but others are new, and the users explain what each tweak does fairly well.

Nothing you've posted actually proves that the statement has any validity. Provide some examples of how uBlock's disabling of WebRTC can be bypassed.

I don't use Chromium (at all), but I thought they patched that.

Guess not.
>>
why do idiots say chrome is "fast and lightweight"?

I'm a poor faggot and my computers are old as shit, chrome is like AT LEAST TWICE slower and heavier than firefox
>>
>>54180654
because chrome creates a false illusion of being fast by preloading and stuff which makes significant visual difference on faster computers
>>
>>54180323
Try Adobe Reader deluxe edition
>>
>>54180654
Because FF used to be heavier and slower than chrome. This was especially true when Chrome initially launched.

Then FF got its shit together, because it had actual competition (and let's face it, neither IE nor Safari was much competition).

It's most likely the add-ons slowing down the startup process. Out of the box Firefox starts blazing fast but with add-ons installed it can take 1-2 seconds to open. Not that slow but still noticeable.

I use Safari. I know its flaws, for instance it seems there's data pointing at it not being secure at all. There's no embedded .webm support and I experience a few issues when it comes to streams.

But it still flies compared to other browsers. I used Chrome for 5 years (after using firefox and the like) but then switched to OSX and noticed that in terms of performance it was better. Then I decided "well, maybe Chrome is just slower on OSX for whatever reason" but also decided to use Chrome/Chromium on W10/Xubuntu with similar results. Firefox and Opera too. Heck Opera works exactly the same for me.

So yeah, using Safari, never in my life I thought I would end up using this, but then again I also thought I would never switch to OSX and here I am. Fucking hell.

I'm testing Iridium. Only missing feature is the ability to play mpv video from youtube/page. I tried some extensions but they don't work(the one that requires python script to run in the background.

Is there no simple extention/hack that allows me to run a simple command like "mpv %url%" with either right click or extention button click?
