That's the classic Macbook Pro in the OP, though. That has lots of ports, an easily replaceable battery, can be easily opened up, and isn't that thin.
The keyboard is up for debate (I personally don't mind it, though yes, it's no Thinkpad), and yes, I agree it's overpriced if bought new. I got mine heavily discounted, though.

I'd rather have a slightly heavier Ultrabook/Notebook that has a removable battery, SSD, and RAM then being stuck with the configuration from the manufacturer just to receive a slightly slimmer form factor. Imo it doesn't make sense, I paid $1200 for my Thinkpad with the best i7 and bought my 1TB SSD and 8GB of additional RAM from newegg. At the end of the day it was still $700 cheaper then a 13inch Macbook pro maxed out straight from Apple.
