Why does Linux get so much hate?

It has a variety of web browsers, torrent clients, office suits, VM managers, programming IDEs and text editors, and just about anything anyone would use a pc for. Even steam games are being ported to Linux, and vulkan should help with AAA titles.

You can choose whichever DE you want, and customise most of them however you please.

And it is UNIX.

AND IT'S FREE.

They don't create these threads to bully GNU/Linux users or for posting anything of value; they create them to justify themselves.

They espect other tech illiterate sheeple to confirm that GNU/Linux is a waste of time, so they can feel secure in the crowd.

The daily anti-linux thread is the daily drug that makes that bad feel go away.

Just ignore them.

I'd simply like to interject for a short while. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components fulfilling a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is simply a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but cannot work on its own; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

And all of them have horrifying user interface, poor functionality and bad compatibility with proprietary formats from the real professional software. But that is fine, nobody really cares about that as we all know the only important thing is having anime wallpaper on your desktop with screenfetch terminal window open.

Ironic shitposting and paid shills in that order.

Because I have a full-day job and sometimes I take some stuff to finish off on weekend or just do preparations for the upcoming projects, and because my company uses specific internal software, which will not run with Wine.

Linux is fine because based torsvals is a hardcore geek.

Freetards are annouing as fuck and are the number 1 reason linux is hated.

The kernel doesn't even matter in the long run.

There's also other options like midori and qupzilla

No it's not, it says it literally in the operating systems name (GNU's Not Unix).
>>

What is it about Unix that makes it Unix?

Is osX Unix?
Is bsd Unix?

How about the playstation 4 OS?

Linux distros are just as much Unix as a Unix descendant
>>
>>54174859
>And it is UNIX.
Yeah, go use BSD or Solaris, or at least read a fucking Wiki page and try to say that with a straight face again.

GNU's not UNIX, and Linux isn't either.

Linux doesn't get hate, it's too non existent within the PC space to get any.Windows 10 gets hate and for good reason yet its' everywhere...

I like linux, I wish I could use it as my main OS but I'll lose too much of what I had on windows that isn't compatible to Linux, example I lose 2/3 my steam library switching to linux from windows.
>>
>>54176379
Linux is just a kernel, faggot.
>>
>>54176379
But we both know what I'm talking about within the context of OS and not kernels do we not? GNU,Linux,GNU/linux etc. I don't care, saying Linux is shorter and more people heard or know about Linux by name then GNU and make the association between the two.
>>
It's just not a very good desktop OS. I realized this after spending all day installing packages only to realize that none of my porn games work even with wine.

I'm running Ubuntu mate on an Intel atom desktop and windows 10 on my gaming pc.

Can you please tell me a few of these things you can't do in Linux besides games, because I've never had issues like that.

My use might be different from yours though, hence why I'm asking
>>
>>54174859
People hate Linux?

Isn't it massively shilled here?
>>
>>54175238
I'll give you credit where you're right: there are some proprietary things that absolutely suck on Linux, and the free stuff just doesn't cut it.

That said, saying that the OS itself has horrible interface is off point. Matter of fact, I will take the Mint OS interface over any Windows or Mac interface. Granted, Win7 is pretty much identical to Mint, BUT Win7 also takes a lot longer to boot up, so it's not really a tie.

So yeah, you're absolutely right about using proprietary software on Linux quickly and easily, but completely off base with the UI.
>>
>>54175708
He's talking PROFESSIONAL proprietary software. GIMP isn't photoshop, no matter how hard it tries to be (though it is still more than enough for most non-professionals). And I'm not aware of anything that even compares to Auto-CAD.
>>
>>54178908
you cant shill freeness
>>
>>54178908
IF you can digest it and have some time to get the basics - yes it's preferable over windows.

BUt if you're a normie it's best you keep dual boot and make a habit to do all your private browsing trough something like tails and your banking / private stuff trough secured firefox - on main os.

Or even jump straight into Ubuntu and stick with it - it's more than enough for casual user that watched movies, listen to music, browse the web, writes documents reads them and so on.

I remember when I first installed linux, my computer is great but it was running like shit after I upgraded to win10. It really does run like new. What does win10 do to make it run like shit?
>>
>>54181682
I don't know man, in windows 10 my ui is a little slower but I'm getting better performance in games than I was with windows 7 though I believe that's because dx11.1, which windows 7 didn't have.

I'm just too lazy to downgrade to 8.1 so I'm still on 10.

Another problem with Linux is the distros fighting when anyone asks for advice.

I believe for a newcomer the only correct answer should be Ubuntu or Fedora, but then again that's just going to lead to more fighting.

Linux getting hate? You get all these generals, threads about specific distros as well. People over here will only scoff at you for your choice on distro, but many around here use it and they can say whatever the fuck they want on the issue.

Now, open an OSX general and here come the fucking hounds and the typical scatman shitposter and the guy with the picture of the kid at the classroom and good fucking luck if there's any proper discussion.
