Topre switches feel overall very smooth to me. One of the smaller details apart from the overall feel that I really like is how firm they feel. There's almost no wobble (unlike with those gateron clears) on the switch. The keycaps barely move around.

As for the overall feel, I really like the firmness and snappiness of them. Yes, they feel like rubber domes (not a big surprise there), but they feel like really nice rubber domes. When you press down, you have this firm resistance that builds up and then smoothly collapses, resulting in a very soft bottom-out. I really like them for typing, for gaymen I prefer linears (though I gaymed with Topre no problems). Another part I really like about the switches is the sound, though this is also partly due to the HHKB and the plastic plate. I lubed them some time ago, and since then I like the sound and feel even more.

I don't think you can really compare these to mx-style or alps or any kind of other switch that is not a rubber dome. I don't mean to say that they're better, but they feel far too different from those to even make for a valid comparison.

My only particular gripe with Topre switches is that they don't lend themselves a whole lot to modifcation. Not only is there a severe lack of Topre keycaps, but there's also not much you can do with them other than lubing them or using different rubber domes due to how they work. I'd love to build a keyboard with Topre switches myself.

Really? The last 0.5mm or even less are pure torture for me and to me the bump feels, well, like that of a rubberdome. But Maybe there's something wrong with my board. However mine might be a little weird overall.
>>54168183
That's odd, there is a LOT of keywobble on my Leopold.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Vvi4QveWxj
Matias QC, (some loud rattle, I touched the mic on accident), Leopold, Custom Vintage MX clears. I just took a finger and pulled it over the keys, without applying any pressure. I tried to keep the distance to the mic the same and overall the vocaroo is pretty accurate.
Overall I expected a vast improvement to rubberdomes, but it really feels just like the Alps Slider over Dome I tried some time back. Well I guess my expectations were just too high.

what's /g/'s opinion on buying used mechanical keyboards?

I'll save like 50% on one which only came out last year if i go for a used version, will it be worth it?
>>
>>54169461

I buy used boards from the 70s-80s all the time. As long as you don't mind doing some cleaning and replacing of small parts, it's a great way to save cash. Honestly the worst I've had to do was a bolt mod for a rivet-less IBM.

Newer boards and those you can see in person before buying should have even less issues.

Honestly, the manufacturer doesn't even matter that much. All you got to look out for is basically the bottom-row. Only buy keyboards with a bottom-row where every key (except for the spacebar) is equally large (a little larger than the keycap of a regular letter).
Reason is, if your keycaps are busted (and they will) it is a bitch to find keycaps for anything but standard bottomrow.

Just keep in mind that you (except for some gaymen brands, which are unnecessarily expensive) get what you pay for.

it's good for the price.
recommended only if you want a 60% but still want arrow keys plus standard r-shift for swappable key caps.
>i want a smaller keyboard
it's like 1.5u shorter in each dimension, compared to a standard TKL, there's hardly a difference. it's also very light.
but, it looks really good. i have a black with white leds, and even though I usually don't like LEDs, it's a pretty fantastic looking board.
keycaps are average ABS quality. font isn't great but it's whatever.
but, what's most important, is that you can get it with gaterons, which automatically make it better than any Cherry MX board.

This is my current keyboard, the magicforce looks like a baby compared this this.

It's dome switch, which switch should I get on the magic? Can I switch the switches if I don't like them?
>>
>>54180369
>which switch should I get on the magic?
the only switches you should consider are blue and red. don't ever let anyone tell you to get brown or clear. and technically you can change the switches but doing so would require desoldering every single switch and soldering in new ones. it's possible but it's a huge pain in the ass.
basically, clicky (blue) switches are pretty satisfying to type on but the clicking really isn't for everyone. red has less (read: almost no) tactility but they're about as silent as you can get and you can probably type slightly quicker with reds after you get used to the keys.
if you ever play any video games whatsoever, then red is your only choice. if you don't game and live by yourself, consider blue.
gateron clear is also an option. they're linear but with lower actuation force so it's less fatiguing but the weak upstroke makes them feel what can be described best as mushy, whereas clicky have a very crisp, sharp feeling.
>>
>>54179026

Clears are good too.

It's hard to make general recommendations, but with a budget like that you can afford the good shit. But what's the best for you depends on what your tastes are and how much time you'd be willing to spend.
If you're totally lost I'd actually recommend trying some display units or getting a switch tester.

The world of keycap sellers is weird. First time I bought a set, they didn't arrive until like 4 months later and I had already gotten my money back at that point. Then a month ago I preordered a new set, which arrived three days ago. And then they arrived today too, so now I have two of them. But this time I've contacted the seller and am gonna send the duplicate set back I guess.
I've never had this kind of problem happen with anything else purchased over the internet before, are keycap sellers just incompetent?

In my personal opinion, gateron clears. They're extremely light and extremely smooth and make for a very pleasant typing experience.

Though I think that "best" switch is a matter that's up to personal preference.

>>
>>54185196
They are pretty decent for what they cost. Most stuff is really standard (case, keycaps, etc.) but they are pretty good regarding supported layouts and are 100% standard, so there are even aftermarket cases for the V80 (Matias as well)

it's cheaper and has less features. Personally I think it's better than the Pok3r because it is cheaper and everything the pok3r uses its extra money for (painted, not anodized aluminium case and PBT keycaps with infills) is still shit and needs replacement in order to get something decent.

Blues. They're sorta noisy, but you get used to it, and honestly I prefer it like that. Blacks have no bump feedback, reds are a meme, browns feel like shit.

That's true, but the FN Layer and the Layout options on the V60 are pretty nice already. It's not as good as free programmability, but it's not as bad as most competition.

Totally. The V60 seems pretty awesome for the money but ultimately I decided it wasn't for me and I definitely don't regret it.

Are you looking for a fullsize or a TKL? It seems that the TKL wasd barebones does actually come with clears.
>>
>>54186343

Thanks a lot! Do you have a suggestion on the color set-up while I'm ordering this?
>>
>>54186466
>Do you have a suggestion on the color set-up while I'm ordering this?
I'd honestly suggest you don't get their keycaps and just go with the barebones. Their keycaps are thin ABS and way overpriced for that.

I'd recommend getting some aftermarket ISO caps, either in whatever variation of ISO you can find or blanks.

Stuff like this is exactly why I switched to ANSI with my second board.

>>54169983
>I would miss led illumination

Well, my Topre arrived today and I've gotta say it lives up to the hype, key presses are incredibly smooth, and it has tactility while being light, kinda like an ergo clear or something in that line. I think I'm glad I fell for this meme.

I have pic related. Cooler Master Quickfire TK. Gen 1 version that still has the mini-usb, not micro. It has yet to fail me in any way shape or form and all I have done to it is pulls the keys on occasion to clean it. This thing cost me $45 5 years ago. Why is it that Cooler Master seems to get a bad rap for their mech boards? Thing is built like a tank.

Unrelated, but that keyboard has blues. I use it for typing and gaming. How are reds for non gaming related stuff? Are the comfortable to type on for long term? Is the TK series the only board with ten keyless size but keeps the number pad?
>>
>>54189054
>Why is it that Cooler Master seems to get a bad rap for their mech boards?

Werent they the go to for a cheap mechanical keyboard the last 5 years or so, before the influx of cheap keyboards and switches showed up?
>>
>>54189054
I have the same keyboard but with reds (I think like 4 years old) for typing it's not really good but it's great for playing Tetris and shit
>>
>>54189107
Yea I remember them being the only brand sub $90 at the time with decent options. Can't speak as to their new stuff.

Although I will say Corsair mech boards are hot garbage. My buddy bought one of their top boards. The entire left side of the keyboard slowly started dying starting with the number keys. This happened to 2 boards of the same type. wasn't cheap either. Like $150 keyboard. He got his money back, bough a steel series with reds.
>>54189119
Oh OK good to hear input from a red user. Didn't want to buy a red board and regret it. Might just stick with my clicky blues.

What kills me is CM offered a TK "stealth" model that was only on the market for like 3 months before disappearing. Blank black key caps with the writing on the side rather than on the top with MX black switches. Was like $120 but I wanted it so bad.

I got some thin profile ones, so they didnt change the throw of my keys and they still bottom out like before.

Do I have to get fat orings that shorten the throw of keys and cushion bottoming out for them to do anything?
