Is the inner gear made of titanium?
It's an odd color, i know the blue is hardened steel but the other piece doesn't look like anything i readily know
>>54162269
Pretty bad. Just buy a $4 fake from ali.
Anyone have experience with making their own dials? Been considering making a bauhaus-esque vostok with the 1965 reissue.
>>54162348
I think that's just a render?
In any case, the material is supposedly some kind of artificial doped carbon crystal grown into that shape around a core of silicium.
The large wheel that looks like titanium is called a balance wheel and is common to most mechanical timepieces. Along with the coiled hairspring attached to it, it effectively takes the place of a pendulum.
The balance wheel, the hairspring, the pallets, and the escape wheel all taken together are called a lever escapement, which comprise the heart of many/most mechanical watches.

Thanks for the info!
It probably is a render, if you have seen the youtube clock maker: clickspring
Then what i said makes more sense, when he heat treats the steel parts they turn that color blue
The process of making the parts, is it similar to sintered metal?
>>54162837
Blued screws are beautiful, I agree.
I honestly have no idea what the process involved might be like. I think >>54162698 might have the right idea in bringing up lithography.
Think about how printed circuit boards are made.
What do you guys think of the new tudor blackbay 36?
Any other small-ish watches that has similar aesthetics?

Looks classy
As for size i don't think so, my wrist is closer to 9 and i have a 32mm dial watch nobody seems to notice
>>54162961
The diver dial with a smooth bezel looks slightly out of place, but overall it's a great looking watch.

Am I cool yet, Leica and Omega guy?
>>54163594
But if the camera is IN the photo, how can it be taking the picture?
>>54163594
Well you can call me Leica and Omega guy, but my friends also call me Nikon and Seiko guy. Is that an FM2? That camera and lens look immaculate, I'm so used to my beat up F3 and 50mm. I think you're pretty cool, anon.
Should've set the watch to 10:10 and not had it in the middle of a date change, but that's ok. How do you like the SARG?
>>54163594
>>54163728
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Leica and omega guy is actually Leica/omega or as I've recently taken to calling it, Leica + omega
>>54163614
because it shoots film and nobody's dumb enough to take the time to do that.
>>54163728
My grandfather's FM2 and 35 AIS. Nothing beats film era Nikon feels. The only way the F3 could be better is if there were a F3X with the 1/4000 vertical travel shutter, and the weather sealing and hotshoe from the F3P. Maybe even a switch to go from CW to fat spot meter.
The SARG's ok. The protected and signed crown is a nice touch that a lot of watches in this price category don't have. I feel like those design cues are what separates the SARG from something like a SNZG15 or Hamilton Field. Note that the second is in the same price category as the SARG... The sapphire crystal is definitely worth the money, I scratch up my mineral glass watches like mad. I'd have liked to have AR coating though. The compass is gimmicky, since you'll likely never use or have a use for it. My 6R is running anywhere between -6 to +3 seconds/day, depending if I'm wearing it all day or not, and what position I leave it in when I'm not. I wonder how the average 6R compares to a 4R.
>1010 and date change
Alas, that's what happens when you take pictures at 2300, and the date changes at around the same time. Besides, aren't I not supposed to change the date between 2200 and 0200 or something? Or is that only applying to the quickset?
>>54162961

>>54163454
Yeah, maybe kinda Explorer 2, but it still lacks the numbers on the bezel (plus I think the bezel in it was bigger as well).
>>54162961
I think it's a great watch that really carries the spirit of the explorer 1016. Will probably be getting it once I see it in person.

Does anybody else hate how high-tech mechanical watches have become luxury pieces? Fucking richfags have to ruin it for us normie hipsters.
I just want an accurate chronograph because I think they're cool as fuck. I don't want it to be ridiculously expensive so I can pretend to feel smug about myself.
>>54162961
That divers watch style dial doesn't really suit a plain bezel IMHO.
It looks off like when people mod an SKX that way.
>>54164595
Any cheap modern and even vintage chronographs will keep good enough time when regulated.
>>54164652
>Any cheap modern and even vintage chronographs will keep good enough time when regulated.
Yes and so will a $1 watch that synchronizes its time with a reference master. But what's the point in that? What fascinates me is the immaculate quality of engineering that has gone into these products, the ridiculous amount of attention to detail.
All the technology behind something like https://youtu.be/kfFfnAj1Us8 makes me hard. I've literally masturbated to articles about movements and how they work.
But oh well
I'm looking for nice watch/chronograph, preferably automatic, but nothing quartz. that's not all kinds of fuckhuge. maybe 5mm thick or so tops.
i'm willing to spend up to about 500 bucks.

Nothing you will find in that pricerange will be smaller than 11mm if it's an automatic.
>>54164721

I'm also not looking to impress /g/ so maybe take that out of the equation.
>>54164734
Handwound piece is somewhat possible.
You will have to do a bit of digging, but you could pick up a couple of vintage Swiss pieces that will be 9~11mm thick.

Next time post the actual thread title OP
Seeing as this is my first automatic watch I'm wondering if I got lucky or that's a common behavior.
My Seiko SKX007 seems to be able to keep the current time and to adjust depending on how wound it is. Say I've used it all day and it's fully wound up, it will run about 5s a day too fast, if I didn't move all that much it will mostly keep the same time and finally if I let it sit for a day it will run slow by about 5s afterward.
Seeing as I don't wear all day (and not at night) it's almost as if it was radio piloted, it's been a week and it's within 1sec of the correct time.
>>54163480
doesn't look it lol you're posting evidence for him
>>54167592
It's partially due to the way you wear your watch. It's just lucky the way things worked out for you. If you wore it all the time, it might be running a consistent 5 seconds fast every day. Also keep in mind the watch may start to drift (ie, it will not stay around +5s, it may decrease or increase, common on cheaper mechanicals).
When I first got my Vostok it was almost quartz - accurate, gaining maybe a minute in a month. In the summer it started gaining about 15 seconds a day, and then when the weather cooled again it started losing about 10 seconds. The drift is pretty bad.
>>54167840
Meh.
Had similar shit with my LM special. At first it didn't want to work and gained several minutes per day, and then it stabilized to +3 secs per day.
Though my recently adjusted Amphibia does +5 secs per day.
>>54162961
It's alright, I kind of prefer Sinn 556i though (and it's also a lot more fairly priced).
>>54162084

That awkward moment when your Penisquartz pops open in a business meeting and leaves its jewels exposed...
Orient Star, japanese domestic handwinding model, I'm very pleased with the accuracy -1s/ Day (tolerance is -25s +15s)
>>54169374
>tfw when you want a penis Quartz again
>>54169715
Average accuracy doesn't mean shit.
Only how much it sways.
-25s/+15s is horrible.
I'm trying to find a watch I saw one time. It was an older Seiko with a pale/pastel yellow face, green lettering, only 2 hands and no numbers. No date box thing either.
>>54169827
well it certainly puts the standard and elabore grade etas to shame, which are built into far more expensive watches
>>54169910
The ETA-2824 rate is -12/+12.
>>54169910
And the ETA-2824 elaboré is 7/7.
>>54169827
Well a 6R15C is rated at +25/-15 over something like 0-40 degrees C. Wear it all the time, and you'll see under +5/-5. Does that count?
>>54169959
some of them are delivered what seems to be completely unregulatet, a few times even exceeding the specified values (standard ones)
maybe i'm lucky but my japanese watches always ran more accurate
>>54170056
Just like some 6R15C comes 'completely unregulated'.
But on an average, the -25/+15 is not good. And certainly doesn't "put the standard and elabore grade etas to shame".
>>54164682
Well you're bitching about "luxury" pricing but it's actually because chronographs with immaculate quality are legitimately expensive to produce, not because it's some Jewish conspiracy.
An ST19 looks just fine.
>>54167592
Spring tension is a thing.
>>54170106
it certainly is well regulatet then, because last time i set it was 1 week ago and it lacks 3s-4s

>>54171178

the Silverstone look sharp and a seiko mechaquartz is something I've been looking into anyway. I have two cheap mechanicals and I think I might wait to get something nicer if I want another automatic or mechanical piece.
>>54170387
I already had a Type II in the past, but the glass was really badly scuffed so i sold it for slightly more then what i paid. Since the local jeweler didn't have any proper replacement crystals (I wouldn't mind it have a replacement acrylic), and my regular watchmakers either don't work with them or are too far away.

>>54171307
It's unfortunate you couldn't just source a replacement crystal on eBay. I'm surprised any decent watchmaker wouldn't work on these, they are quartz after all.
I actually like my Type II better than my King Quartz, even though the finishing and movement are objectively inferior.

While we're on the subject, the camera in this photo was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the same guy famous for designing many many cars including the very cool BMW M1 and the DeLorean. But in /wt/ you may know him best as the designer of the Alien Seiko.
>>54173083
What's to design on a camera? I though form followed function with those, at least the professional ones.
>>54169374
Kek, the same thing happened to my father a week ago.
>>54173864
Isn't it the same with cars and with watches too? A car still has to have four wheels and seat five people, a watch still has to have three hands and twelve hour markers, but there's plenty of room for variation and style anyway.
His big thing with the F3 was fixing up the ergonomics. It has the shutter button in a more comfortable position than the earlier professional Nikons, it has a surprisingly comfy handgrip, stuff like that. Another thing was the battery grip attachment in pic related. The weird shape it has with that forward slant puts the center of gravity in the right spot to make the camera balance more comfortably and steadily in your hand despite the added size and weight.
Also the camera just looks slick and cool. It only came in black, they eliminated the chrome option, and the red stripe on the handgrip was supposed to be a little racing stripe. It became a very distinctive Nikon signature and most of the cameras they've made ever since have had some sort of red design on the handgrip.
>>54174176
cars do NOT have to seat five people nor do they need 4 wheels

it still looks like shit, i just use it for the convenience.
>>54185000
solid black nato.
>>54185065
If you can find a NATO with blue accents the same colour as F-91W blue then it should look fine.
>>54185000
Get a G-Shock. The terrorist watch is ugly and shit.
Has anoybody bought a chink shark mesh strap? How was/is it?
>>54185431
Bought one, still hasn't arrived though.
On the other hand a couple of these cheap farts on WUS recommended his straps so i'm guessing it won't be too bad.
Another day in the perpetually failing search for a non-Indian, non-Korean Daini 7016... I guess I'll just comfort myself with some Suwa Hi-Beat.
>>54176660
Exactly how many old Seikos do you own now, and where did you get them? I'm beginning to get kind of jelly of all your Daini 52xx stuff.
>>54181035
I'm not usually a fan of the non-penis Seiko Quartz watches, but that one looks kinda neat, I got to admit.
>>54183194
Just search for "The truth about the 321 vs 861 movement" on his channel. I would post now but I'm on my phone. Basically the video starts off with an email from "Anonymous", although I could swear the guy sounds like NineBall.
>>54185464
Please keep us updated. Thanks.
>>54185497
There's an Aussie selling one the Bay.
>>54185505
Will do.
Needed some variety in my strap selection from just simple leather and natos.
>>54185497
I've got 4 vintage Seikos, 3 serviced and wearable, and 1 parts donor:
1967 Seikomatic-P 5106-8010
1971 Seiko LM Special 5206-6020
1975 King Seiko 5256-8010
All are serviced and have NOS crystals (except the KS which has a sapphire).
>>54185632
Nice perlon, bruh.
Should I get a black or coffee perlon for this Vostok /wt/? I already have one for my Amphibia, but that's 22mm.
>>54185604
The Aussie one looks a bit too beat up for comfort. And besides, I've already got a beat up King Seiko, and as much as I like it, I have no need to add more beat up Seikos to my collection.
>>54185632
All serviced by Shane, I'm guessing? Most of the time, when I bring vintage watches in to him, he tells me they're fine. I don't know if I just got lucky or if he's politely trying to turn down work, although he hasn't held back from telling me when things are fucked and I KNOW they're fucked.
That Seikomatic looks really nice for a salaryman watch. Leave it to Daini (and it's only now I notice you don't have any Suwa stuff).
>>54185974
Coffee will fit better.
>>54186040
Yeah his pictures are rather bad, but it does look fairly grimy.
Was considering a Seikomatic with a brown linen dial myself, but i've already bought and sold enough watches for this month.
I'm looking to buy a watch. Quartz or automatic, doesn't matter, as long as it isn't manual-wind.
>Budget $50€.
>Must be properly waterproof (>10 atm), a.k.a. a divers' watch.
Anything that'd fit the bill apart from the Amphibia?
Thanks in advance!
>>54186668
What's wrong with the Amphibia?
>>54186737
Not everyone likes how it looks, anon.
>>54186737
>>54187015
I actually do like the looks, but the glass gets scratched (very) easily.
>>54187055
Not really, and if it does you can just buff it out.
>>54185974
Coffee
>>54186040
Yeah, all done by Shane.
The 5106 needed it because it wasn't running when i got it (someone put in one part backwards previously, was otherwise fine), the 5256 was at my request (amplitude was a little low), and the 5206 I asked him to do since he had to disassemble it to put in a NOS day wheel.
They all run great now. The 5106 does ~+1s/d by way of gaining 6 on the wrist and losing 5 off of it, but both 52xx's tend to run near +0-1s/d while staying between +2 and -2 max.
At one point the KS went 14 days at +0s total...
>>54186668
Casio MRW-200H? Plenty of options to choose from, the 1EV looks best to me.
>>54186737
>>54187055
>>54187096
Its shyte. It looses and gains like a motherfucker (come on, I dont have the time or money to regulate a 30€ watch), and when the SS body doesnt get stains and spots from saltwater (yeah some people usem them to actually dive), the acrylic glasa gets scratched to hell. Also, the 2416b has got to be THE worst and most sensitive Vostok movement. I wish they had better shock protection and bring back the 2414 Amphibia. THAT would be neat.
What can /g/ tell me about moonphase watches, on a poorfag budget.
>>54187505
Quartz only unless you want fatass chink movements. Honestly it's a complication that like perpetual calendar benefits immensely from the set it and forget it nature of quartz because they're a huge pain in the ass to reset if your watch stops.
the world needs more waving hand watches.
>>54187320
You're seriously speaking out of your ass here, and you're complaining about buying a cheap watch that's already the best bang for your buck.
The 2416 movement is essentially a 2414 with an autowinder, and if you don't like it you can replace the 2416 with the 2414 since they are basically the same movement. I used my god damn Amphibia while i destroyed an old hotel lobby with a sledgehammer and it soldiered through.
If you scratch then just buff it out yourself instead of being a lazy cunt, and If it gains or loses time then adjust it yourself. Not like these things are hard to do, unless you're some clumsy nigger.
And If anything they should return the 2209 movements, those fuckers were and still are bomb proof.
damn brits get all the good stuff.
>>54187548
I'm not speaking out of my ass, neither seriously or jokingly. I had the 2416 fall from my desk onto the floor from 1.5 meters and the fucking autorotor fell off. Its shit, and they should have left it at 2414, fuck even the Man on the moooon has to be wound up so why not a fucking Amphibia. I agree with you on the 2209 part. Vostok dont get the whole "progress" thing.
>Ivan, lets design of Amphibia with new dial, nice hands, average NATOs and the shitty old movement, Johns and Johanns are of going to eat it all up
>I agree Dmitri, lets fuck shitski up
Also, calling me a nigger is just racist and wrong. Now kiss my black ass.
>>54187505
How poorfag are we talking?
Yes Watch and Suunto each have moon phase watches that are not completely appalling.
>>54187734
>>54187734
sub 500
>>54187541
I'm more than fine with Quartz. I really can't imagine something as complicated as a moonphase working without it, unless you're in the thousands of dollars.
Got this last week
>>54187782
>Dimensions: 40mm x 48mm
I want to make a watch company that makes male watches that are <=40mm lug to lug.
>>54187750
>>54187767
OoooK.
If you have some practical need for moon phase information, I would suggest getting a G-shock with the appropriate features or getting a smartphone app or whatever.
If you just like the aesthetics of the moon phase complication, you are probably stuck with shit-tier fashion watches.
In the latter case you might want to check out vintage regatta timer complications, which are also quite beautiful.
>>54187685
Are you the guy that had the autorotor snap in two?
>>54187930
>>54187828
>male watches
><=40mm lug to lug.
It's called boy's size manlet-kun.
>>54188103
hey arnie
>>54181382
How awful.
>>54185041
This, or just solid black.
>>54188000
It's beautiful. How exactly do you use Yacht timers anyway?
>>54188224
silver rings trigger me.
>>54188224
Does that come in a darker blue? I've been looking for one like that for a while.
>>54188243
Dunno.
Speaking of specific sportwatches.
Want to get something German and durable, kind of tooly.
Damasko DA34 is probably the best choice but I have a 6" wrist and it's 40mm
Should I just get a Sinn 556 instead then because it's 38,5mm (or is that 1,5mm even any significant)
>>54188264
You can kind of hide them if you use the "down under" method to wear it (as seen on an earlier post in this thread).
>>54188270
They make so many different NATOs so you can probably find one in a darker blue.
Are €5 nato straps from aliexpress acceptable quality generally?
>>54187609
>>54187545
Eat a battery.
>>54187117
shane ede???
>>54188685
Obviously. One of the best watchmakers in Southern Ontario.
Also, just how many people in /wt/ are from Southern Ontario? Seriously though, the number of Canadians in these threads is ridiculous.
>>54188445
Considering it's quite a niche, uncommon product, I wouldn't expect those straps to be any different than those you'll find in other places. Actually I'd expect those to be identical.
>>54187782
The bezel looks like it's on the wrong side.
>>54188270
Heh. I looked it up recently and couldn't really find anything. I mean, the didn't look into eBay etc. - just local forums and stuff like CheapestNatoStraps.
Only one guy was selling a strap like that, but it was 22 mm (it came bundled with a watch and he didn't need it). There were some with a single dark blue strap, but I think they were too big as well, leave alone that they didn't look as good. I ended up just ordering a plain black one.
