All code I compile has been audited, this is inherent to how free software is made.

I can be sure the packages on my system haven't been tampered with because I have compiled them from source myself.

Linux Mint 17.3 GNU/Linux. 8.9/10. Only issue I might have are the issues inherent in apt based distros and a strange bug with xfce that I can ignore because of xfce's quality in all aspects. I've done some optional modding to the system (switching MDM for LightDM, and using light locker) and some issues I might run into in my experimentation have never come down to the core of the OS, and the base system itself has never broken.

Pleased.

No. But everyone has the possibility to.

The point is not so much trusting no one, but not depending on one party.

E.g. Binary distro maintainers can mess with packages and distribute them without anyone finding out. Gentoo maintainers can not mess with source code or ebuilds without anyone finding out. Code and ebuilds are readable, transparent, binary packages aren't.

have been on the same installation every since they switched to systemd.
the only package that broke in 2 years was only an aur skin for lightdm.
and even that was fixed within a day by the package maintainer.
the issue only moved some field outside of the screen but you could still tab into it so it was fine.

i use this notebook for work too.

The libgl stuff is because steam provides its own libraries, instead of using the ones on your system.

If you symlink your OS' equivalents into steam's directory, it'll fix it.

Tried upgrading to 10 hoping the continuum would be good but its a load of shit, only makes annoying little changes which fuck up consistency. Ah yes the lack of drivers was annoying, so was the increased ram usage and boot times, both of which are a priority on a shitty 2gb ram portable device. To top it off, I tried running tasks which I knew made the laptop struggle and it did so badly I gave up, losing the ability to play 1080p smoothly was the last straw. Windows 10

A solid 6.5. Until last month I would have said 9 but I have had three major issues with my win ten install in the last month which caused me to do a full wipe and start again with it.

First, I realised it had lost compatibility with a number of older games which ran fine in windows 7, and the fixes are all complex and not guaranteed.

Second, updates were downloaded but not installed, meaning every time I restarted it would throw an error on shutdown. The fix did not work and the diagnostic tool proudly claimed to have fixed it, but didn't.

Third, when I reinstalled, I told it to wipe my drives, but it did something wrong and fucked up the partition table for the HDD, so I had to fix that.

Fortunately now it's on a fresh install it's working nicely.

I used to use mint which was a 3/10.

It's a lot more useful than I thought it'd be, and it flies compared to anything else I've used. It's well designed, and I can get about 95% of my work done using web apps. The fact that it's updated monthly is also pretty great.

However, it could be a lot better. Notifications are inconsistent, the native apps leave a lot to be desired, and development is pretty slow.

best I've used, but I've never been able to fix screen tearing regardless of compton flags, and nvidia updates are pretty unstable

also steam has a bunch of bugs like the whole program exiting when closing one of the windows, or sometimes the windows not closing at all

basically nvidia and valve don't truly love us and they push out shit to fuck over our experience, otherwise everything is great
