I don't understand. Why did you even bought this if you don't know what to do with it? Are you retarded?

I heard it's an extremely efficient dust collector. Because of the large surface area of the board it collects up to three times as much dust as comparable dust collectors, such as analog cameras, books and dumbbells.
>>
Unless you want it for some HW project (like custom garage door control) its literally useless. Waste of cables and space in your home and your time. Just spin up a new VM for fucks sake. If you are so poor that you cant afford €2 per month for a VM equivalent of a raspberry then your job sucks. If you are still a student you can get VMs for free
>>
Use it for the purpose for which it was obtained.

Excellent thread

To be fair though i came here because mine has been in a drawer several months

I literally just got the same one

I have no idea what to do with it yet. Maybe I'll just make it into some sort of media computer.

I suppose I could do some web dev work on it too because that shit is so fucking simple to set up on Linux and a bit more a ballache to manage on my MacBook

I've read varying reports on the Pi 3's ability to run emulators, like PiPlay. I've heard it can handle some older stuff well, but once you hit like N64 era, it loses frames like mad.

Anyone have any experience with this? And if the Pi 3 is shit (which it seems it is), is there a similar but better alternative?
>>
>>54157951
My Pi 2 is great for old games. I mainly play SNES generation and older for consoles, and CPS2/CPS3 for arcade. If you want to emulate newer games then just use your PC.
>>
>>54157991
I'm looking to set up a small cabinet on the cheap (already sourced most of the lumber for free). I was reading some reviews where people were saying even Stella was lagging, and that's where I start wondering how the fuck that's possible. Atari isn't exactly resource heavy.
>>
>>54156694
I got the games and artwork to show up but I can get an emulator to play the games on openelec.

I then find out it was even worse because the Pi couldn't into precise timing like Arduino. Hammer time!

I just ordered some servos and was thinking of making a weetabix dispenser for myself so I could just push a button on my phone and dispense a weetabix to my plate.

Build a NAS or Micro Server.
>>
You've bought it without having a use for it?
Install a VPN server to surf on public networks.
Code a scraper that gets data from your hobbies/whatever and does something with it.
>>
I use a pi 2 as an emby client in my bedroom, a pi 3 for the same thing in my living room, another pi 3 to spam some faggots chat site and a pi a+ as an automated vivarium controller.

hahaha, sounds good, a little more detail?

It runs a bash script that keeps changing my IP via VPN, starts chromium with a random user agent and multiple tabs so there is just a current shitstream of random users joining and leaving every 30 seconds. It also used to spam the chat area with random numbers/letters but I've been to lazy to get that part of it working again after he added the requirement to login after registering registering with a random Nick/password.

For a board of computer "experts" you think we would have better responses then "throw it away" "shove it in X" "it's useless"

AirPlay, seed box, cloud, VPN, emulator, Apache/php server, security camera, router..ect.

Here are some ideas:
Web server
Mail server (with DKIM, SPF, DMARC)
VPN server
Remote storage
Music streaming
NAS
HTPC
VoIP server
BitTorrent client
Usenet client
Tor entry node
Tor relay node
RADIUS authentication server for your Wi-Fi
Authoritative name server for your domain (with DNSSEC, DANE, SSHFP, OPENPGPKEY)
Resolving-only name server for your devices (with DNSSEC and DNSCrypt)
System monitoring of your devices
Pro-active supervision of monitored services
NIDS/NIPS
>>
Connect it to some unsecured network near you and have it monitor what people are doing on it, collecting statistics on most visited sites, googled topics, the porn they're watching, etc

Make it portable. Don't care how you do it, you just need an enclosure, a battery, a screen, and input devices.
>>
Gents, I've been wanting to get one for the sole purpose of using it as an ftp controller. However I'm having some difficulty finding compatible ftp software that doesn't involve a lot of Linux code configuration. Does anyone know of any code friendly software?

I use my Raspberry Pi B+ for NAS and for controlling my cheap chink bluetooth light bulb with speaker by web service. Also, it controlls my lighbulb automatically by making it dimmer/brighter depending on the current time.
I also plan extending the lighbulb control to make it switch hue by a bit depending on the temperature of the room, but I don't have a thermometer yet.

I don't even need all that shit but I still decided to do it.

I bought a Pi 2 when I had a bunch of cool ideas, then I realised all the nice peripherals are expensive as fuck and it started to collect dust.

Then I found an old Atmega32 in my electric junk box, it had never been used since I couldn't get my hands on a programmer back when I got it, after some searching on the web I managed to turn the Pi into a programmer.

Probably the best use I can think off, you can write the code, compile and dump it on the AVR microcontroller with just the pi, so that makes it really easy to experiment with.
