>"you'll learn how Linux REALLY works!" When it's literally just configuring a package manager and letting scripts do the rest
>offers nothing that minimal net installs already offered for other distros don't
>muh bleeding edge packages!! when you can just install directly from the upstream source in any distro
>only reason to use it is the aur, which is full of broken and unmaintained packages and isn't monitored at all, most "packages" are just a bash script to download the package and it's install script from GitHub
>aur is far worse than Open Build Service, which actually lets you package binaries and programs for multiple distros
It's not the worst distro, but there's nothing it offers that makes it worth using over any other distros and it has the worst fucking user base.

It all has to do with your attitude and what happened to you after high school or graduation. Not getting a job and not having anything to do REALLY fucks with you. You NEED something to fill that gap, or you WILL go insane. School filled this for you previously but now you are left with nothing.

The attitude when getting your first job, relates like this
>We're offering you a position at this IT related company, it may suck for a while but you have advancement even with no degree
And latex threads have proven there are shits out there who would unironically respond
>EXCUSE ME YOU USE .DOC I HAVE NO INTEREST IN WORKING AT YOUR COMPANY
I know it can be hard to get your first interview but it will come along and present itself, the point is that the same mentality that tells you to choose arch will make you forego the opportunity when it does arise. So you can never get out of this situation.

This is why you need a timesink like this, to fill up your schedule. If arch were eliminated tomorrow, it would be replaced with something else effectively the same. Arch is the less of two evils the other evil being being vocal and protesting about how all the companies you tried applying for don't use your obscure 80s shit software. You use arch when you've ruined yourself by saying no to opportunities, can't admit it, and need to forever "challenge" yourself with psuedo IT tasks that you could have gotten paid for to fix at the jobs you said no to. It's beautiful in a way, timesinks made by other dropouts for dropouts and it keeps the whole lot quiet.

I started using Arch because on every other distro I ended up on the Arch wiki sooner or later. So I figured I might as well get the genuine article the pages are about. Installing was fine but configuring wifi with wpa supplicant and troubleshooting systemd are fucking asscancer. A kernel update buried it (on virtualbox, fucked up the kernel modules, can't seem to be able to activate them through chroot and CBA to reinstall the whole base over again) and I ended up with Manjaro soon after. Comfiest distro I've ever used, but time will tell how it really stands up.

No it really isn't. Debian doesn't even come with fucking sudo. It refuses to install nonfree drivers from its installer, even if it's for your wifi card. It's documentation is paltry at best, and god forbid if you attempt to install something from outside its repos.

I agree with you on the documentation, but a lot of Debian is just Ubuntu plus more extra steps in between. And installing from outside of the repos isn't even as bad as you're implying it is.

> People actually think setting up Arch is hard.

Literally the only thing I did was partition my disks, format them, install base packages and then pacman -S plasma konsole. Additional software I just installed and works out of the box thanks to Freedesktop standards.

I really don't understand why people think Arch is so much work. Is it just a bunch of whiny people failing the first two steps because they aren't reading the wiki? What?

Previous iteration of ricers, special snowflakes, "do it yourselfers" that everyone hated, ca. 2004 - 2006. Funroll loops site has it all, but is dated as they have moved to arch. You can still be contrarian to the contrarians by ironically using gentoo now.

Proof:
