Seconding. Much cleaner language than Python or just about any other language. The LuaJIT is probably the second most advanced JIT out there after the Hotspot. It beats up on V8. Mostly due to how simple and well defined the language is.

Is Matlab worth taking a college class for or should I learn it on my own? I'm a physics major and have the option of taking a Matlab class, but one of my friends said it was really tough. Complex Matlab programs are an indecipherable clusterfuck of files and there's a fuckton of really ugly package code written in it. Mainly because it is so widesprad with people who can't program well but are able to copy functions from a paper just fine. It's a shady swamp of poo that you literally have to wade through every time you have to use it for something serious.
Never used Rust, so I can't say anything.
Can't argue with R, no daily driver for me but it gets the job done, but not what I'd call god tier either.
