It gathers data for multiple purposes. Some of them might be beneficial to you, some of them might not. For instance, by knowing the kind of problems users encounter, they have an easier way to track them down. By knowing what their users do frequently, they can show ads based on that information. They're doing this for the betterment of their own platform but at the same time, so they can profit from it.

Windows 10 has been a weird system before they tried to shove it down people's throats; they changed elements from it based on feedback over and over, ending up with something that's not consistent at all. But they did listen to some of the feedback, which they wouldn't before. The issue is that at the moment they didn't fix things like having a better file manager or improve the font rendering engine they're using. Or scaling even.

If you're concerned about the NSA however, that's a separate issue and doesn't involve Microsoft or Windows alone. Keep in mind that by using a somewhat modern processor you already have no protection there.

If you track down the information that MS receives, could you scramble or encrypt just those pieces of information, so among all the stuff from other users, there's your info that's either unreadable or requires a password?

Is windows 10 better than 8.1 if i disable all their shit and run spybot anti beacon?

Why wouldn't it be?
>>
>>54142796
>Is windows 10 better than 8.1 if i disable all their shit and run spybot anti beacon?
No.
>Why wouldn't it be?
Because the operating system itself is designed to always be connected. You literally have to manually block IP's on the network firewall because you cant even block the hardcoded IPs on the host.
tl;dr you cant 'get rid of' the botnet, when the entire OS itself is a botnet.
>>
>>54142850
The thing that super fucks with me is the whole "You can turn this off, but it's ok, we'll turn it back on later!" thing.

Like holy shit, at least give us an option to disable that stuff. Have it turned on by default for the retards, sure, whatever. But give us an option to legitimately disable it for real.

I guess not. They have to build towards the lowest common denominator, and that's the people who want a big, green, "HIT THIS TO FIX EVERYTHING" button, and the closest way to get to that is to collect a fuckton of data on everything possible to find the best way to fix things.

Even if the majority of the data is sold on to third-party ad agencies.
