It's Debian, so all the great programs from repos.

>Need to download a YouTube video?
youtube-dl

>need to quickly rip out sound from a video file?
ffmpeg

>need to program on the go?
gcc
Vim
nano

It can even run a traditional desktop. Pic related, lxde running on my phone

Even if there are no advantages, it's a cool and nifty thing to have, plus it has a lot of scope for tinkering

I haven't been in on the phone game since like 2011, when I bought mine and was researching which to use...

But I thought Android was the free man's phone OS, with minimal spyware and smooth running and all that. I remember /g/entlemen praising it as the Apple Killer™ and the best in all ways. I might've gotten memed or am remembering wrong but I think that was the general consensus.
Did everything change over the last -- oh god -- 5 years?

>John Carmack, the id Software co-founder who essentially created the modern first-person shooter genre from scratch, has once again said that the iOS platform is the best mobile platform out there when it comes to game development. He said as much last year at QuakeCon, but here we are one year later and iOS is still king. Sorry, Fandroids.

>The reasons for the superiority are largely the same as they were last year: Android is far too fragmented to develop for, both from a hardware and software point of view. How many Android devices out there still don’t have Froyo? Mine doesn’t! (It’s the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon Wireless, by the way.) And how many different hardware configurations are there between the various HTC, Motorola, Samsung, etc. devices?

>flagship android phone not getting software support

Not OP but seriously man...

It's a fucking mobile phone, you use it to call people.

I can program a 25mb command line OS, and patch/repair pretty much any object oriented language; but I use iPhone. That's all I'll say to defend OPs post.

Good lord m8, I almost hope you get into a life threatening emergency to where you are comatose or dissociative from your environment to where you can't answer your name or address to people so they are forced to open your debian phone to dial emergency services.

I can't wait until they appreciate how 1337 you are trying to do that.

I get it's a hobby, I get how fun that can be; but don't go and bash someone making a very logical decision for a very specific component of their life with what would seem clearly defined paramaters for acceptability.

Dumbass.

You're confusing having a google account and google apps with the ability to install apps on the phone. There's literally nothing stopping you from installing third party apps outside the Play store. F-Droid and Aptoide are things that exist.

Get hit by a car

Your mom passed and you've actually moved out so phones are necessary to communicate(Especially if you're anti-social media).

Your house is burning down.

"WHAT DO -YOU- DO IN THIS SITUATION?"

I'm getting pretty triggered at the lack of context clue comprehension. Do people think addressing directly to a point or recognizing literary elements to receive a conveying message easier gives them cancer or gets them raped or something? Then again, this is 4chan /g/ I shouldn't even be giving these replies the luxury of a well thought out position.
>>

>>54131925
You don't need a smartphone to live. There are cellphones that aren't "smart" if you're so concerned about having a 911 device on you at all times. If you're ever robbed, I can ensure you a gun will be more useful than your smartphone. In case of a fire, well-placed fire alarms will be more useful than your smartphone. You can't defend that your life depends on your smartphone without sounding completely incompetent.

Right, but to address this completely negates the goal of "Having debian on my personal phone, if you don't tinker with your personal phone; you don't tinker....like those iphone buyers" in it's nature of agenda.

When you address that, you must understand how hilariously irrelevant all of the aforementioned becomes.

Other than that, I agree in situations where your life is in danger; we can cherry pick what I said all I want but you get the point....and so does this smart guy

>>54131959

Using your personal phone as a tinker toy and compromising it's reliance is a stupid and egregiously dumb idea, especially when you have anywhere near a product life and network of people.

But if you want to cherry pick more as if that helps convey the point do it properly. One situation doesn't negate the rest...if it came to that I'll post these:

Vehicle Breakdown

Witnessing a Violent Crime and getting ahold of dispatch when seconds count

But I think you get the idea and how it's a waste of time that doesn't negate it's legitimacy as an accessory in detail.
