>>
>>54129827
I don't really mind that your average user uses iPhones.

What I really don't understand though is why people who are self-proclaimed "techies" use iPhones. Surely someone who is actually interested in technology would feel suffocated by the limitations of iOS?
I don't get it. I can't take a "tech guru" seriously if he unironically uses an iPhone.

>I can't take a "tech guru" seriously if he unironically uses an iPhone.
The point you and the others in this thread is that professional techs don't give a fig how you self-styled "experts" feel.
We'll use whatever we fucking-well feel like using without getting our panties in a knot over whether it agrees with the current state of coolness for children.
>>
>>54129957
Yeah, but that just means those people aren't actually interested in tech. They just do it for a living. I work with several of these people, and they're really good at their jobs and what they do, but anything tech related outside of their field of work is completely blank.

Hobbyist tech nerds are the people I'd want to be friends with. Not people who only do something tech related as their profession and don't care about the rest.

Smartphones let you do so much more though. It's essentially a mini computer at this point. iOS simply doesn't have enough customization or tinkerability that techies need to truly make the most out of their phone.

>>
>>54130198

>>
>>54129567
I've been using iOS and Android together for a long time and since xiaomi phones had been released I don't see any point of using iOS phones. Most of the Android phones are shit, but xiaomi managed to make a great model row of smartphones(redmi 3), I'm serious, not shilling. The shell is good, hardware is also great. I was impressed, didn't expect that Chinese shit could be so good. I changed my opinion on that. The most important is that they are cheap af. You can buy a good smartphone for 200$. It makes sense to buy iPhones if you live in the USA, because of their agreements with Internet/connection providers. But if you live somewhere in Italy it totally doesn't make sense, because here it costs about 650-850$(from euros). And for what? When I compare both phones the iPhone still has a little bit better UI-controls drawing and that's it, it just one thing I could notice. Technical capabilities of both phones are the similar. Buying iPhone did make sense even in 2012-2013, but now in 2016 it's just stupid, iPhone users are stuck in the past, unfortunately.

dont believe this guy, hes either a fucking idiot who doesnt know what the fuck is he talking about or a troll.

That lock is embeded into one fo the systems partitions, the only way i could get ird of it was ctually paying a guy on Ebay $10 and he did it remotely, it took 5 minutes and all i had to do was put the phone in download mode, he sent some commands and phone rebooted clean, been using it for 3 months no issues at all.

so do that or wait until those fastboot commands somehow leak to the public and you can do it yourself.
>>
>>54137094

All of these require allowing a third party to access your data. They also require a network connection. Imagine you are on the west coast and the Cascadia earthquake finally goes off, and wipes out a lot of the infrastructure. You still have your phones, and some areas have backup generators, but nowhere has Internet because all of the towers have been destroyed, as have the cables.

Being able to transfer files without the Internet is pretty damn useful.

This sounds incredibly inconvenient. Why not just allow you to install the application as is without signing, like Windows, Android, Mac OS X, and Desktop Linux do?

We're not talking about that here.

Even if you jailbreak iOS it's still closed source

While project like Replicant strive to be completely open source (bar hardware blobs)

In fact, I could build an image for my Nexus 5 right now from the sources.

Here's how I do it in Android:

1. Go to website
2. Download .apk
3. Open downloads folder in file browser
4. Tap on .apk file and hit open
5. Get asked whether I would like to install the application, while provided with a list of permissions it wants. Hit okay.

And that's it. Why should I need to go through the trouble or pay anyone to be less annoyed?
