This is why the best solution is to just turn off your computer.
The simple act of powering down your computer can't possibly be misconstrued to somehow destroying evidence, as it's something a reasonable person can be expected to do on a daily basis without further justification.
At the point of your computer being powered off, the question is not whether or not you have destroyed evidence but whether or not they can get you to reveal your encryption key. (Which is governed by very different laws)

so i have thought of this a long time ago, back when the attacks on scientology began. so what i did i pulled appart a microwave and built a super strong electro magnet, i then glued it the underside of my desk(has thin top) and hooked that to a kick switch under the desk. i tested this with an old hard drive and it did nothing. so i then tried a 2.5 hdd out of its enclosure and it worked. so now i use an external 2.5hdd that is glued to my desk above the electro magnet for my os and all encrypted data. so if anyone kicks down my door i just hit the switch and they have no evidence of any hacking or illegaly downloaded music/ tv shows
