>Open the door anon! We have a warrant for your arrest!
What would you do?
Throw your HDD in a microwave or just shutdown your PC?

What's the best full system encryption software to use?

i would lie down on the floor because I don't have anything illegal and let them look through my extensive collection of pirated anime

Pirated anime is illegal, anon.

Yeah but it's not the FBI's job to arrest torrenters.

It actually is, anon. Copyright is the dominion if the FBI. That is why you get FBI warnings on DVDs.

Some ancient tech they use in the US to play videos. It's similar to what magnetic tape is for music.

that would make the directory unreadable and the contained data unrecoverable, and will work faster, correct?

It replaces all data in the of directory with zero's. you can also do the following for random data instead:

dd if=/dev/urandom of=/home/user/Downloads bs=1M

All my other devices follow suit within 10s.
My shit's encrypted with Camellia-256. Enjoy breaking that, assholes. The keyfile is on my USB, that was obliterated by microwaves when the emergency shutdown was sent.
I'll be sitting here enjoying my chicken hearts and medical marijuana.

i may be wrong, but that could just zero the directory "file", leaving the files inside the directory still on the disk. sure fire is srm, it's in the secure-delete package. a once over with zeros for all files in downloads folder would be

srm -dfllrz Downloads

No such thing. There's no guarantee that the drive itself will actually physically overwrite the bits you ask it to overwrite, even for HDDs. There's also no guarantee the filesystem will even tell the HDD to remove those blocks to begin with.

>Implying my computer is evidence.
>>
That depends:

If lolicon is legal in my state does that mean toddlercon is legal too?
>>
>>54125832
This is why the best solution is to just turn off your computer.

The simple act of powering down your computer can't possibly be misconstrued to somehow destroying evidence, as it's something a reasonable person can be expected to do on a daily basis without further justification.

At the point of your computer being powered off, the question is not whether or not you have destroyed evidence but whether or not they can get you to reveal your encryption key. (Which is governed by very different laws)
>>
>>54126097
Depends on the exact nature of “legal”. Laws are generally open to at least some aspect of interpretation, especially when it comes to their enforcement / punishment and in particular when dealing with obscenity laws or other laws that are bound to subjective reactions.

If you're just flirting the boundary of what's legally accepted, that's a big difference to going balls deep past it.

Ask a lawyer if you want to be sure.

Never use urandom other than critical security random, like private keys and what not.
If you need to random an hdd, use random

If you're so concerned about data, just have a large, powerful magnet nearby. Rub that shit all over your HDD like BBQ sauce on ribs and you're set.

Well, and destroy the HDD by submersing it, for good measure.

Boobytrap can't kill all of them, more will just come and enter.
That's why it's best to wear bomb vest 24/7. When they come just pull down the trigger and make it clear that you are going to explode if you release it. After that you can just continue to browse /g/ with one hand and all they can do is watch and be very confused.

so i have thought of this a long time ago, back when the attacks on scientology began. so what i did i pulled appart a microwave and built a super strong electro magnet, i then glued it the underside of my desk(has thin top) and hooked that to a kick switch under the desk. i tested this with an old hard drive and it did nothing. so i then tried a 2.5 hdd out of its enclosure and it worked. so now i use an external 2.5hdd that is glued to my desk above the electro magnet for my os and all encrypted data. so if anyone kicks down my door i just hit the switch and they have no evidence of any hacking or illegaly downloaded music/ tv shows
