He didn't mean there is something better, he just said that we're kind of stuck with it. Torrents are far too resilient to authoritarianism, and as long as that's the case there'll be no clamor for things to change. As good as torrenting has been for us, it's pretty hard to deny that things could be a lot better. The mere fact that private trackers are so exclusionary is testament to this fact. We really should have a medium that allows anyone to download anything in return for some sort of contribution. Private trackers perpetuate the limitations put on sharing and to me that's pretty sad.
Don't read this as me complaining about private trackers, they've been great for me, it's the scumbags who uphold the intellectual property juggernaut that deserve all of our wrath for this situation we find ourselves in.

Yeah it's funny that despite the inherent nature of sharing that there are still pockets of elitism in any torrenting community that leads me to wonder why they'd revel in consuming more. The community aspect that nurtures that individual to place themselves and others in their 'secret clubs' as above the peons in their own minds - an indicator of narcissism maybe? The fact that they don't have much else going on in their lives to show pride of? Or (perhaps the minority) are genuinely trying to antagonise others for any or no reason at all, other than pure enjoyment (trolls).

This is a relatively recent phenomenon. And while 4chan invites have almost always been disallowed due to the anonymous nature of the site, even as recent as 2013 no one would have batted an eye at people on reddit or IRC giving invites.
The recent /ptg/ hatred started around the time that chunkynigger started recruiting and PTP thought people were requesting dupe accounts because 4chan said so. So now they have no mercy for 4chan users who aren't invited strictly through recruitment. And if you don't believe me, look up the guy who got banned about 3 months ago for admitting to inviting someone from reddit to PTP. He initially got banned but he's unbanned now. That wouldn't happen right now, that's how quickly this has been changing.

See that's the thing though. That had to have been in jest because A) no one was even getting invites from chunky and B) even if you did get an invite from hiim it expires in 72 hours and is for your specific email address.
PTP overreacted, plain and simple. A lot of people got unbanned from that though I heard. It just left staff with a bad taste in their mouthes about 4chan.

Most of the people that got banned cause of that asked 2 recruiters cause chunkynigger wasn't replying on AHD probably cause he was away on holidays. I still remember people telling the desperate fags to ask another recruiter and then PM chunkynigger telling him they already had an invite, worse mistake they could make.

4chan has always been hated on every tracker except AB because /a/ has such a strong connection with fansub groups. Than and AB staff used to just give zero fucks.
Funnily enough, /ptg/ did get 312c removed from being a mod on reddit and after that the serious clampdown extended to irc and other sites started. Funny that.
Even at the point where AHD will tell members not to use 4chan. Seriously, dictating what sites a member can and cannot use in his own free time...it's the most disgusting thing I've ever heard any tracker doing and was shocked when I saw AHD doing that shit.

I'm not saying you should. Like I said, PTP is overreacting. They still are since all of those people who got very, VERY public treebans are still banned. That was pretty fucked up and I don't think I've ever seen that sort of thing happen, ever. Usually public bans like that are for notorious cheaters/traders, to send a message. This time the only message you could possibly get from it was "if you use 4chan, we'll ban you".
I honestly don't know if they'll keep up the bans or not, but since they're not unbanning anyone I assume they want you to think that that's their policy.
