People asking about the point of different TLDs: they express purpose. com is for commercial/companies, org for organizations, net for generic stuff, country codes for local things, etc
This new gen of tlds is getting out of hand though. Puns are their only purpose
I don't see the issue. The DNS scales pretty well, so obscure tlds with less traffic (resolves) won't need many authoritative servers and may even be served from on big instance.
Maybe garbage resolver software will suffer if they do stuff like hashing by tld with static buckets.

Some people use their ISP defaults. Some people switch to Googles (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4) and some people switch to OpenNIC. I use OpenNIC and I have a couple domains with their TLDs.

I wanted yuri.moe for some stuff, but ended up getting purelove.moe instead and threw it on the cheapest ramnode. Works just as well for the simple tasks I require.
I'll still keep an eye out for if the guy decides he doesn't want to sit on it any further.
