What Encryption algorithms/programs does this board recommend using.
I know that bitlocker and truecrypt are compromised but what programs do you recommend that are not botnets.

GPG for personal things, LUKS for full disk encryption

Dm-crypt+LUKS and gpg sometimes I password protect archives with 7z which uses aes 256.

I used VeraCrypt for a while but do you know any software that will encrypt an entire folder, or at least allow me to put a password on it?

I'm considering using full disk encryption on Fedora, but trying to consider if it will impact the computer's performance enough for me to notice. Does anyone have problems with performance?

Why doesn't /g/ make it's own open sauce encryption program that isn't nsa compromised?
>>

nsa, pls
>>
>>54095860
because none of the fucking nerds on this website would last a night in jail before giving up their password.

and it doesnt matter what encryption you use, if someone steals your computer no one is going to try to get past a windows password much less any sort of encryption

not OP but you might want to read this

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2987439/encryption/newly-found-truecrypt-flaw-allows-full-system-compromise.html

tl;dr
>Since TrueCrypt is no longer actively maintained, the bugs won’t be fixed directly in the program’s code. However, they have been fixed in VeraCrypt, an open-source program based on the TrueCrypt code that aims to continue and improve the original project.

Still using truecrypt containers, only full-disk is fucked

I've used LUKS a few times
>>
>>54096050
Falling for this bait hard.

Used truecrypt many times, got in trouble for some sqldb i dumped 2 years ago, police wasnt able to decrypt and plausible deniability was good. Got off with a warning.

Never tried VeraCrypt nor will I ever. Truecrypt misteriously died for a reason, then at the midst of encryption debates, VeraCrypt arises. Cmon you're smarter than that. The article also recommends BitLocker.

>inb4 underage b8

What I am offering is a true story, and I know similar ones with people who have done far worse than me. You guys are falling for an NSA b8. Take it however you want, I wont argue on an image board.
>>
>>54096624
Forgot to add, the article recommends bitlocker which is backdoored.
>>
For windows:
Veracrypt if MBR, Bitlocker if GPT.

Linux:
LUKS
>>
>>54094384
No, as long as you have hardware AES.
>>
>>54096639
There is no definitive proof that bitlocker is backdoored. If civilian police agencies all around the world had access to a backdoor it would have been leaked to the public by now.
>>
>>54096624
do you have a source to get the original truecrypt?

v.7.0? except heise
>>
>>54097032
>no proof it is backdoored.

Great work Pajeet, 0.5 rupees have been added to your account.
>>
>>54097032
there is no evidence it isnt

never heard of a bust where someone got away with a bitlocker encryption

no reality check, its backdoored
>>
>>54096050
>The flaws, which were apparently missed in an earlier independent audit of the TrueCrypt source code, could allow attackers to obtain elevated privileges on a system if they have access to a limited user account.

This doesn't imply that Truecrypt full disk encryption is compromised at all. If an attacker has access to a running system then you are boned either way.
>>
>>54097058
I'm not >>54097032 but pls explain.
>>
>>54088754
None. I don't have CP like you.
>>
Veracrypt works for me because it protects my shit if it ever gets stolen or if I just want to keep data private.
I couldnt care less if the government can access it because I'm not a pedo or terrorist. And I'm sure the government can decrypt whatever is out there if they wanted to bad enough.

You trust others with your personal information in a confidential way. Encryption is confidentiality, and everybody has a need for it.
>>
>you have something to hide
>im not a criminal so

with todays sophisticated and growing in number of ways to invade your computarized workplace, encrypting your data is a basic concept for authenticity and security.

or in other words
do you still lock your door?
>why not leave it open, you have nothing to hide and overall nothing to fear...

faggots, still thinking nothing will happen to them
encrypt your shit or get rekt
>>
>>54097279
You use encryption daily, with or without CP.

Not all elliptic curves are government approved standards. For example Ed25519 https://ed25519.cr.yp.to/
>>
>>54088754
Truecrypt is not compromised. It was independently audited and properly used for decades - as far as it can be known.

Veracrypt is the best cross-OS encryption program at the moment. It's basically the continuation of Truecrypt since the original devs abandoned it for unknown reasons.

Ciphershed is another alternative, but I wouldn't put a lot of trust in it at the moment, when it matures it might be a good alternative.

And for Linux, LUKS+dmcrypt is the way to go.

>>54096624
BitLocker was also unable to be decrypted whenever law enforcement asked Microsoft for help with decryption. But it's best to assume NSA has some backdoors in it since Microsoft loves to suck cocks, they won't use it for fighting criminals though.
