It hurts to know that you're probably not kidding.

SSDs were a game changer for me (audio/video work, lots of large files and backups). 8GB of RAM is proving to be a little short (multiple VMs, 20-30 tabs open, DAW, etc.). Two monitors would be fucking incredible if I had the desk space.

USB mouse as opposed to what? PS2?

This, I had so much fun with homebrew on PSP and I thought Vita will be even better for fucking around because of better hardware. I was so fucking wrong.

I bought an acer aspire laptop because it was on sale. In my defense it was originally $800 and on sale for $400 (for a reason), and you couldn't really find a 4gb ram, i5 for that cheap then, and the screen is a nice oled (1366x768 though), but holy fuck did I regret not getting a laptop with a dedicated gpu.

All in all it wasn't a terrible purchase and it still works so its obviously built half decent, but for like $100-$200 more I could have done a lot better.

>>54087558
Ehat is this
>>
>>54087599
No.
You just can't connect a PCIe device through USB 3.0. Real PCIe devices (not the USB ones) needs to be connected directly to the chipset, unlike USB devices that are controlled via USB controller.

I did some cat6 installs as side gigs, small jobs (5-15 drops) , wanted to do bigger installs so I bought one, then every local dickweed that did security camera installs seemed to start offering network drops for $90 - $100 a drop. Market dried up within a few months. I'll probably end up selling it and lose my ass.

>>
>>54087791
No familia. PCI also can't "talk" to USB controller. Just because a device (let's take a laptop's mPCIe wifi card for example) uses PCIe/PCI/mPCIe connector doesn't mean it's a PCIe/PCI device. It just uses this connector for practical reasons.

I still have the G400s connected to my PC even though I'm using the G502 Proteus Spectrum. The G400s is the most reliable mouse you can or could get.

144hz monitor is absolutely glorious. You notice it immediately after you turn the monitor on and start moving your mouse, before you even get into a game.

That being said, it is still a toy for those who can afford and a 60hz will be good enough for everything you could possibly use a monitor for, so don't worry about upgrading unless you like playing with your fancy toys.
>>
>>54092877
I play games, but I'd like a monitor that can do 120Hz because it would be able to display 24fps and 30fps content "natively." That's just my autism, though.

Lenovo Z50-75.
Worst-ever implementation of an AMD system I've seen.
Takes literal minutes to load anything that's not Windowa 8/10/Linux and even then it's still tens of seconds too long to boot. I'm using an 840 Pro.
The screen has literally no viewing angles and is 6-bit, the battery lasts less than two hours, it's all around horrible. My sister's Acer laptop on the same APU does none of this shit. (A10-7300)
I discovered eBay business laptops a little too late. Could have had a Precision M4600.

ESD is no joke. Yeah you can probably get away without an anti-static wrist band when assembling your PC as long as you discharge yourself on something grounded before you start, don't work on carpet, and only touch the motherboard on the edges but for actually handling components they are required.

You should see some places where PCBs are assembled. Static precautions can go far beyond wrist bands and are strictly enforced by management. If they send out loads of boards that fail because some dumbass technician didn't take ESD precautions it can cost the company loads of money, not only for product that has to be replaced but also in lawsuits (for instance, let's X company builds fire alarm PCBs, a PCB gets destroyed by ESD, there's a fire somewhere, alarm doesn't go off, people die, now you're liable because your product failed). No joke.

Also, ESD isn't just shocks you feel. You will generally not feel static shocks under 2000V but it's more than enough to damage or destroy CMOS components. Also, sometimes damaged components will intermittently fail so they might pass a quality test but in reality they're bad.

Your multimeter has probably shown "nc" because they have a 1M resistor in series, dummy.
>>
>>54095244
>>54095405 This. The point of the high value resistor is to limit the current. Set your multimeter to measure resistance next time instead of continuity.

If it wasn't there you would have a brief current spike of the ESD voltage/the internal resistance of the wire. It would probably be in the range of a few hundred to a few thousand amps though it'd only last for a few nanoseconds.

>If it wasn't there you would have a brief current spike of the ESD voltage/the internal resistance of the wire. It would probably be in the range of a few hundred to a few thousand amps though it'd only last for a few nanoseconds.
So what if a higher current will pass through it for a while? It's not like it's going to fry it and damage anything else.
The resistor is there to prevent buildup of higher voltages while protecting from random shorts of operating voltages to the ground through your body.
>>
>>54095740
In other words it's needed only for when you are working with a live circuit. If the circuit is off, the resistor doesn't really do anything useful I'm aware of.
>>
>>54089009

I bought a dual core atom board and a pci geforce 8400gs 4-5 years ago intending on using it as a media/browsing box.

Fast forward to the present and I only now have finally built it. Want to use it for streaming video and light gaming/emulating. It lags while playing Cave Story... but that game is entirely cpu dependant. Kinda struggles playing youtube hd video in chrome botnet. Still gotta try out kodi so the verdict is still out.

Video card sounds like a vacuum. Did I do bad /g/?
