If this guy or anyone else is curious a good thing to check for with LTE bands is the coverage maps on sensorly. If you have any phones with LTE already, test with LTE Discovery or other band detection apps to see what towers are nearest.

If you have 40-50% LTE "connectivity" with a normal quad band phone, a Redmi Note 3 Pro might average half that depending on your nearest towers.

If your LTE coverage shown on sensorly is the faintest color you will get that same level with just one band (like 41 or 25 which is common in the Bay Area).

If you want to use a Xiaomi or other phones with compatible bands with a cdma/MVNO that won't let you register/activate the phone you can use wifi/SIP calling over data connections. All you need is an activated sim for data, and configure the APN for it.

I live in Norway so they will charge me tax upon arrival if it's over 42 dollars in value. Since it's not counted as schengen-deal under the conomical agreement I assume this won't work for me and the best I can do is just ship regularly from China and pay the 25% fee at the post office? Try this.
Don't know how it works in Norway but here in Denmark anything over 80DKK (~12€) gets 25% import duty + a 160DKK (~22€) handling fee from the post company running the customs center (and hence handling most incoming pakages).
Honestly don't know how vigilant they are with chekcing goods declared low value though. So far I've gotten 4 chinkpackages all below the limit though and none of them showed any signs of having been opened. I suspect though, that bigger packages are more prone to being checked but that is purely speculative.

If any eurobros have any tips and tricks to avoid customs please do share.

> Do they sell genuine xiaomi phones?
Yes.

> The ROM's the flash legit??
I think they installed the Xiaomi.eu 3rd party ROM for a while, not as such an unfriendly move 'cause it had more languages in the past.

Either way, it's irrelevant if you do what you probably should do and flash the official ROM and send an unlock request to Xiaomi right as you get the phone..
>>
>>54081272
Xiaomi's own store is only selling a few select gadgets in western markets yet.

There are probably many reasons for that.

> Want to get a N3p without global ROM
Eh? If you want the Chinese ROM, why not just flash it?
>>
>>54081287
That's the plan I am good with custom Roms but the malware is what I'm talking about.
>>
>>54081239
I never had signal strength issues with my Xiaomis, apart from the GPS that was really slow to pick up those satellites in rain in a driving vehicle (difficult situation, but there are devices that can do that too).

>>54081300
I don't recall them spreading malware. But I haven't ordered enough phones (and haven't had a close enough look at those) to be anywhere near sure.

If you are worried, wipe and flash one of the official ROMs as you get the phone.
>>
>>54081239
Not necessarily since 4G is potent enough even without full bars. It will be good enough to make calls and browse, the lowest connection I had and tested with Speedtest was still 10mb/3.5mb, and that was like -120 dBm

>>
>>54081008
I wouldn't be surprised if they x-ray it or something and if it looks like a phone declared under that value they will probably get you. Just a thought. Looked closely at the documents now and it seems they will charge you a handling fee no matter what you do, be it it doesn't count as something that needs to be tolled just paid 25% taxes off they will still ask for $25 in order to handle it even if your fee is like $25 itself. Such a fucking great system, that would make $100 electronics cost $50 in fees. I think I'll just stick to lower value items.

Also, UPU can only be handled with the designated carrier in your country as far as I know http://www.upu.int/en/the-upu/member-countries/western-europe/denmark.html meaning that the PostNord/TollPost Globe/Sweden Post center across the road can only be used for packages going inside our own country.
>>
>>54080926
Dunno about the security measures they have there but in greece you almost always avoid customs if you tell the seller to pack it as a gift, write low cost gardening tools (or some shit like this) on it and order it by ordinary post (not courier).

IF the package gets checked and caught I end up paying more than I would if just buying locally so not worth it. Only on quite expensive things which I don't need or can't afford is it worth it.
Example: refurbished iphone 5s 32gb:
Local price around 320USD
Ali price without customs around 230USD
Ali price after customs + handling fee around 330USD
Just an example ofc. but you get the picture. Even if Ali price was a bit lower there is still the risk of having to return it if it breaks not to mention buying locally I get a 2 year warranty.
For it to be worth it, for me, I need to really save a lot. More than I can save on most items at least.

>>54081539
Probably. And did I read that right? They ask for handling fee no matter the (real) value of the package? Sounds unlikely to me but hell if I know...

Anybody got experience with ordering through EU warehouses?
>>
>>54081591
Nice. I had a package worth exactly the limit, but the guy wrote it off as like $10. Toll customs seemingly did nothing to it and the banner around it (to show it if ever was unpacked) was never even unsealed. Also, is this one of the reasons they got the economical crisis? I heard people hide their money everywhere they can. Corruption. People working on plantations all under the table. Can you confirm any of this?
>>
>>54081622
>Anybody got experience with ordering through EU warehouses?
What about them?
You obviously don't have to pay any customs or vat when buying from inside the EU.
>>
>>54081622
Yup. Here is what they wrote on their website.

Goods worth over $42 is egitible for simplified customs clearance, all packages worth over $42 has to undergo customs clearance on import. Tax (25%) must always be paid, other groups (non electronics - clothes get 10% etc) also have an additional fee.
Posten (the Norwegian UPU carrier) will perform the simplified cusotms clearance for goods worth between $42 to $363 for private individuals.
The fees are calculated according to the customs act, and then sent over to your pickup point. Posten will send you a message with a stated amount of what you should pay to have the package delivered upon retrieval at the pickup point.
An additional fee for simplified customs clearance will be paid, this covers costs related to statutory tasks Posten must perform: arrival treatment, registration of package, and calculation for the Norwegian Customs.

In other words: If you order between $42 and $365 is forced to go through Posten and they will perform a simplified clearance, if it's over this amount you can actually reserve yourself against this and avoid their fee for doing the work for you. This sounds really weird.

For me you can post it in Norwegian (Denmark here).
From what you posted there it seems you get fucked no matter what assuming 'Tax (25%) must always be paid' means anything, no matter the value.
How it is in Denmark:
Under 80DKK: no fee, no customs, no VAT, no nothing
Between 80 and 1150DKK: handling fee + VAT
Above 1150DKK: handling fee + VAT + customs

>>54081660

I ordered my Redmi 3 from Goldway at Aliexpress. The package came through Netherlands post (PostNL) and only took 15 days to arrive. It didn't get stuck in customs, as the seller wrote a lower priced on the package themselves.

From my experience, you have to ask the seller to add a lower price on the package. Either that, or the seller does it themselves.

Link of my order: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Xiaomi-Redmi-3-Metal-Body-Mobile-Phone-Snapdragon-616-Octa-Core-5-0-1280X720-2GB/32596287406.html

Well, unless they stated it they probably already added the VAT in the extra cost for using it upon selecting EU warehouse. Too bad in Norway we do not do Schengen for packages so they would ask for additional 25% for a total of 50% and maybe even 75% with the handling fee for your $100 European product! Unless of course you ask the seller to waive the VAT and add toll papers so it can pass. Yup, our currency falling below the value of SEK really makes you appreciate basing the whole economy on oil prices. Pic related. Special thanks to Iran, Arabia and all these faggots pumping up more oil to make up for falling prices making it fall even more. But HEY, at least now we can stop caring about environmental friendly engines like testla, oil is cheap af.

People were going crazy enough to send the oil tankers around Africa because the additional time it took to arrive was decreasing the amount of oil and then increasing prices. This whole global trading things is so fragile.

Also PayPal is paying tons of money to not be counted as a bank to the USA, hence it being barred in India etc before. I know that they don't want to be counted as a bank rather a payment processor. AliPay, on the other hand, is a pure payment processor last time I checked and don't go the PayPal route about things. They have important payment deals with for example Yandex.Dengi in Russia and in a short time they have made a pretty sweet portfolio.

I think it's automatically through AliPay or something, unless you handle payment directly with the seller you're ordering from.
>>
>>54084272
Gearbest supports paypal, what are you on about.
>>
>>54084329
Look m8 I want to pay directly with my card on both AliExpress and Gearbest. The problem is if some seller scams me or gives me a fake, if I want a refund, they will return my money back in my bank account which was tied to the card, or they will give me a coupoun or something like that? (never bought from chink sites, but they have some nice things and this thread looks like a good place to ask this)
>>
So the Redmi 3 is the best bang for the Buck right now? I'll get more than 5 SOT on this phone?
>>
>>54084272
You can order without making AliPay account just like any payment processor. Last time I checked Paypal can force you to make an account on some transactions, which has never been the case so far on AliPay. On gearbest you can use paypal, so if you like paypal go to gearbest.

Know nothing about returns, never had any issues. First dispute I've had is now, let's see how they pay back. I hope they give me a coupon or something because the exchange fee back to my VISA and the rates is going to make me lose money and I'll be buying more anyway monthly.

What do you want?

AliExpress is like eBay, has several sellers but also a shit ton of fakes claiming to be the real deal.

Gearbest is just a chink online retailer, but the stuff they claim to be original is actually original. GB supports paypal, so should your item not arrive you can issue a refund through paypal. If shit's in stock expect it to be sent the same day or the next, if not they can take their sweet ass time because they're waiting on their supplier (always ask them through support about the status of your order, they will give you an accurate estimate of when your order will be in stock and shipped out.)

Hey I like gearbest, but honestly they are the most known guys for shilling at online sites because they are actually under one huge store. Aliexpress and eBay, however, are all separate stores under the platform. For all I know gearbest could be something similar though. What I can say is that all are equally good I'm not trying to shill for Aliexpress in fact I've found Gearbest to be cheaper, but I've used less and less eBay only for some products as it turns to be more expensive in some areas.

It's not unheard of that GearBest is shilling, they even do it on Reddit. Just wanted to give people a heads-up that they do it.
