I moved recently and while I waited for the provider to install fiber in my new place I had to leech wifi for a few days from the unsuspecting people next door.

From what I could see from wireshark, they didn't use much internet anyway.

I do. The only problem is that arrests for this matter are relatively frequent in my country. Hope I'm not stealing from someone who knows how to check the connected devices.

Then go complain to hotel administration, you're paying that shit. Breaking into private networks is a crime and considered a felony in many places. Never worth it especially as some people put honeypot wifi access points with easy passwords just to catch wifi thiefs and report them to authorities (me being one of them).
>>
I would if I lived in America where internet is horribly overpriced unless you win in the lottery of life and have google fiber. But I don't, I pay like $15 for 100/10M. There's simply isn't any need for me to steal it. Strongest neighbor connection is good, but it's most likely just 802.11n, not even ac, speed is bound to be low.

I have tried using reaver and I will try to learn it just for the sake of it. I love the idea of stealing someone's wifi, cracking passwords and shit. I could torrent all I want because I have a couple of computers that aren't traceable to me, it doesn't matter what their mac address is.

Uh no welcome to the real world of minimum wage $7.25 an hour
(more like $5 after taxes)

$30 for a few GB at best... which is like 3 movies.
$50 at LEAST if you get lucky with some MVNO for any real quantity of data.

>Not everyone has an extra $600 a year to burn you know.
Man I don't believe you senpai.

Federal minimum wage is like $8/hour in most states now. That means like ~$1,000 a month after taxes. Pay ~$400 for a room, ~$300 for food, ~$100 for transportation. That leaves you with like ~$200 to pay for bills and put into a financial reserve. Clearly even a minimum wage fag can pay for unlimited high speed mobile data. Unless said poorfag dines in restaurants every fucking day which is insanely retarded.

True but takes forever.

I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. I only ever cracked WEP because lol 5 minutes

Thing I'm worried about is spending days cracking WPA2 then they change it and gg all that work wasted on nothing
>>
>>54071088
That's why we reset your admin login credentials. Since you used the term "Normie" im guessing you were to lazy to change the defaults, or even rename your AP. This means if you actualy did try to conect to the router you would just run into a login failure and be to lazy to go reset the thing.
>>
>>54071084
>>54071119
They dont. They get the keys through other methods.
>>
>>54071061

So when people are left with just $200 a month after paying the basic necessities of life.

They should spend 1/4 of that on something that is essentially an infinite resource, available literally in the thin air all around them.

Something that cost ISP $0.01 to route a 1GB of traffic.

Gotcha.
>>
>>54071061
>Pay ~$400 for a room,
That nullifies your argument as having roommates means the internet becomes part of the utility bill (and it has to be agreed on across the board).
>>
>>54071116
lol whoops meant to just put "minimum wage". But still my point stands, even those on minimum wage should be able to afford at least unlimited high speed mobile data on their phones.

If you're poor and have a carrier like verizon or project fi then I'm sorry but you're a fucking moron.
>>
>>54071119
I have a lot of experience doing it, I have all kinds of dictionaries and scripts.

If they are using a non dictionary word then it's impracticle.

As far as them noticing, the most likely won't unless they are tech savvy enough to go into the router and look but you can always change the router password and lock them out of it, also their are telnet commands for some routers that even let you disable the wifi led.

wctl 0 32 0

And this is why theft works. People think the factory default settings are a magic shield and no one could ever get the key and use their network maliciously. I guess I stole wifi? I leave it up to judgement.

A while back I lived in a house with two basement suites, and free, shitty Internet from the landlords upstairs. When the other tenant was home he would always blast shitty dubstep through the walls and the wifi(no access to wired) would slow to a crawl for hours, and the landlords did nothing about it because they were old and didn't care. So I used the default admin login to get into the router and ban 5/7 of the other tenant's apple devices so I could actually use the damn wifi that was included with my rent.

first off, how the hell do you equate unemployment to homelessness?
the national unemployment statistic is based on employable individuals who where employed long enough to be eligible for the federal unemployment benefit. Once that employee has used up their eligibility or hit 26 weeks (some states still implement the old maximum waiver system from just after the recession to push that to 73 weeks) they are declared systemically unemployed. If they do not qualify for payment through the unemployment benefit, they are considered systemically unemployed. Systemically unemployed individuals are not reported in the federal unemployment rate. The home less are specifically excluded from unemployment statistics unless they have been recently employed.

ITT: dumbasses telling people to break into private networks and risk getting sent to jail/prison.

Man I hope you're all ready for some nigger cock up your ass. I'm gonna start logging and monitoring my password protected wifi now. I catch any of you fucks using my wifi and I'm reporting your asses to the feds.
>>
Any tips on how I can report people stealing my password protected wifi? Do I just go to the nearest police station or report directly to the feds?

Yes anon. I'm sure they'll kick down their door and immediately arrest them without a trial and throw them into Guantanamo bay.

>>54072156
bump for this
>>
My ISP messed up when I moved to my current apartment, leaving me without internet for two weeks. In the meantime I used my neighbours WiFi, who had a SpeedTouch router still set to factory defaults. As the key used to generate the default password was leaked it was only a matter of entering their SSID into a program to get the password.
Later I used reaver to give my (now ex)girlfriend access to her neighbours WiFi during a similar scenario.

On a side note, I still have the required tools installed on my phone to perform ARP poisoning along with settings for the "Upside-net" and "Nic Cage mode". It's always fun to mess with your friends like that.
>>
>>54072130
You have a bigger chance of getting arrested for posting "copyrighted" pictures on 4chan than breaking into some random guy's wifi

while yes, a determined person will get in, the chances of it are pretty low. a thief takes the easy road. a non-discover-able wpa2 access point is less likely to get opened than "netgear39". Also the chances of your 1337 hacker friend staying connected to your network all the time for you to see him is low.

>>54069441
No, but i stole from the xfinitywifi hotspots a lot before i moved. Resetting your MAC every hour was ""fun"" but i didnt give a shit. it was free 20mbps and i had an autohotkey script that mostly automated the web login.
>>
>>54072350
Not any of them, but seriously, just try it. If you are very lucky the police will send an officer to take the report in person. They won't actually do anything about it though unless you're important enough for it to look like corporate espionage or something. Cops have limited resources and investigating a wifi thief is simply not worth their time or effort.
>>
>>54072366

but doesnt the xfinity hotspots web login require a Comcast subscriber account?

My point is that, THEY BARELY INVESTIGATE *ACTUAL* cybercrime like carding and botnets unless it's very severe/prolonged. Because lack of evidence and it's hard to convict/investigate.

They sure as fuck aren't going to be arresting anyone for stealing WiFi.

QoS is critical. YouTube and Netflix take all the bandwidth they can get and it doesn't just annoy me; everybody in the house notices, including the person hogging a lot of it.

A bandwidth limit has worked wonders for me.

If WPS is on - Pixie Dust attack first.

If that fails, at least get a handshake - run it through oclHashcat with some good dicts, rules etc.

My advice - kill WPS and have a good fucking passphrase.

Reaver?

Or what's the recommended modern tool
>>
Used to bridge my home Wi-Fi and the neighbour's unsecured Wi-Fi using a USB WiFi antenna and my laptop's own Wi-Fi card to get better speeds on my torrents while gaming on my desktop. By limiting the speed of the connection to my own Wi-Fi I didn't notice any slowdown on my desktop's connection. Grown out of gaming though. I'm writing using swipe on Google keyboard so Wi-Fi is either spelled as Wi-Fi or WiFi.

I'm paying Shaw $81.72 every month for a 25mbit connection. Pretty soon I'm going to tell their monopoly to fuck off.

Haven't had to do that since I was 15 and my dad hit the cable with a shovel trying to plant a tree in the backyard. Took them an entire week to come out and fix it. What's wrong with that, to be honest?

I mean yeah it's better to know deep knowledge of networking and how all this shit works but why bother if you just want to achieve a goal(crack a few networks) and then NEVER EVER fuck with this stuff again?
