The day /g/ admits they dont got anything on w10.

Thanks OP, I knew it was all a meme deep inside and no one actually uses GNU+Linux.

I mean, why would you if w10 is superior in every way.

End of thread.

Circlejerk all you want. The data collection module of wangblows cannot be disabled completely. Some of the connection attempts could not be explained up to this date, not even by MS employees. Had the data collector daemon be open source you would know and diagnose if it is working or not.

GNU/Linux respects user privacy more than shitblows and that's a hard fact to digest for /v/ migrants.

People are tired of proving it. Someone makes a fucking thread about this shit almost daily.
It's common knowledge.

Why the fuck do you think Microsoft is now trying to sue the fucking US government?

They know Win10 is collecting vital information and they're greedy for all that fucking data.

Doesn't matter if you have important data on your phone or not. You're literally carrying around a tracking device that lets the government know where you are at all times. Hope you save up all your money to buy a car or house in all cash.

>>54068476
>Same as with windows and linux there's people looking for and recommending more respectful alternatives even if they're the 1%.
There's a difference from having people know your browsing history and them knowing where you are at any given time during a day. Oh no, they know you browse 4chan and what porn you watch. Big fucking deal.

>So making a purchase with a credit card involves giving all my info to every company that asks for it?
The credit card company knows your purchasing habits, which they sell off to advertising companies. It also means they can track your location based on where you use it.
>>
>>54068180

the reason they're suing the us government is because they want to be able to tell the people concerned if the FBI made a data request.

the data being telemetry, which you can opt out of when installing the OS.

>The credit card company knows your purchasing habits, which they sell off to advertising companies. It also means they can track your location based on where you use it.

Why? OSX is a bigger botnet than Windows 10, and they don't give a fuck/proudly admit it
>>
Nope. It's just poor wording in MS EULA plus public paranoia because of the Snowden revelations, plus paid Apple/Google/GNU shills in /g/ (GNU shills probably do it for free though). You're probably more much more vulnerable to spying by using Gmail or Google search than by using Windows, for example.

This is really hard to go without these days.
The modern world, especially for those of us that aren't NEETs, are demanded to be available at all times. I really wish I didn't need my personal tracking device at all times, but I've actually gotten shit talks from my manager because I wasn't answering customer emails in a timely fashion, and when I said I didn't have email on my phone, he was stunned and told me to put it back on my phone (yes a notification every 15 minutes was pissing me off).
Then the credit/debit card issue. A lot of stores are starting to become cashless. I hate it. I prefer to have physical money.
I wish some things were the way they use to be.

Why is hiding your location so important to you? I don't have a problem with people knowing mine, "oooh he's been at home for 10 hours straight :O". That information is and has been available to anyone willing to stalk you in a good old sit in car in front of house fashion since forever. But what has never been accessible to anyone without breaking and entering is your local data. That's the shit that bothers me with w10. The info you reveal to your phone can be controlled, but your PC should be a bastion not so easily desecrated. Having such access to my data is akin to having direct access to my private thoughts which is unprecedented.
>>
>>54080586
At least they have to wait in a car. They earn the right to spy you by working not by clicking buttons and see your report
>>
>>54080629
This is a valid point, mass surveilance is different from tracking a couple faggots. However what I meant was that you never had any expectation of privacy for this sort of thing, while with windows this is unprecedented and data previously secure is now made pretty much public.
>>
>>54076892

- Windows installer can be linked to windows update. So if you have not installed all updates on the system, some installers will fail due to "missing" updates. This causes major issues in server environments where not all updates should or can be installed.

- Windows 10 auto updates, eating your bandwidth and not giving you a choice of which updates to install.

- Windows 10 upgrade automatically uninstalls applications from your PC deemed "incompatible" for no apparent reason. Applications remain compatible after upgrade, big surprise there!

- Microsoft has already backdoored its disk encryption. https://theintercept.com/2015/12/28/recently-bought-a-windows-computer-microsoft-probably-has-your-encryption-key/

- In Windows 10, the universal back door is no longer hidden; all “upgrades” will be forcibly and immediately imposed. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/07/windows-10-updates-to-be-automatic-and-mandatory-for-home-users/

- Windows 8 also has a back door for remotely deleting apps. http://www.computerworld.com/article/2500036/desktop-apps/microsoft--we-can-remotely-delete-windows-8-apps.html

- You might well decide to let a security service that you trust remotely deactivate programs that it considers malicious. But there is no excuse for deleting the programs, and you should have the right to decide who (if anyone) to trust in this way.

- Windows 8's back doors are so gaping that the German government has decided it can't be trusted. http://drleonardcoldwell.com/2013/08/23/leaked-german-government-warns-key-entities-not-to-use-windows-8-linked-to-nsa/

>>
- Of course, Windows 7 and 8 are unethical too, because they are proprietary software. But this example of Microsoft's wielding its power demonstrates the power it holds.

- Free software developers also stop maintaining old versions of their programs, but this is not unfair to users because the users of free software have control over it. If it is important enough to you, you and other users can hire someone to support the old version on your future platforms.

- We can suppose Microsoft look at users' files for the US government on demand, though the “privacy policy” does not explicit say so. Will it look at users' files for the Chinese government on demand?
