Why do Linuxfags constantly slander Windows 10 and say it's a botnet? Why do they constantly equate telemetry with surveillance? Why do they bring up the meme key from 17 years ago that was literally nothing? Do they think that by doing these things their pathetic desktop OS will gain more users? The only people who have anything to fear from Windows 10 are people who use child pornography. Even terrorists can use it.
>>
>>54064797
Telemetry is actually surveillance though..
It's reporting personal usage of your computer to Microsoft.
>>
>>54064837
>Telemetry is actually surveillance though

No it isn't.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telemetry
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surveillance

Telemetry monitors things.

Surveillance monitors people.
>>
files, filenames, filesizes, the programs you use and how often you use them and how often you look/edit each file, what games you play, what you type, your webcam, you micro, audioshit, the music you hear, everything is in the telemetry-data and this is not acceptable. My world, my way, my https-urls which they can see in cleartext because I am typing them. They even see your bookmarks and if there are https:// urls, THEY ARE IN CLEAR FUCKING FORMAT.
>>

Optional for services
>>
>>54064884
Microsoft's telemetry monitors the actions that people take using their computer. It's not mutually exclusive to surveillance.
>>
>>54064890
I think most of this is for insiders only.

>>54064912

It doesn't monitor people, so it's not surveillance.
>>
>>54064890
>anonymised
Sure..
>>
>>54064890
to add something intern: The only reason the thread-subjects are in the urls is because that they appear in cleartext in the logs of nginx/apache/whatever(cloudflare). People that think https makes anything more secure are stupid. Right, nobody inbetween can see what you do, but the serveradmin and everyone that has access to the logs can see it!

This is coming from someone who administrates email-servers. All my clients use ssl and bullshitcrap, but as long as they don't crypt their messages, I can still see them in clear format in their /home/folders (postfix and stuff guys). Please know that even the big corporations don't do it different.

This killed your entire point. Nobody, not even pedos should be monitored by their OS, if there is the possibility to monitor them, there is the possibility to monitor whoever else gets on the shitlist.

I was using Windows 10 until all the typical programs, such as those that manage the basic personal files of the user, were so badly redone that they are almost unusable. I still keep my primary email address from Outlook.com but signed up for a Google Apps account to manage it, along with photos, mapping, videos, and so forth. For the management of local software, I switched to Mac OS. It's just that Windows 10 is now not worthy of my particular social stratum. Not into some rigged piece of shit.

That's as much of a meme as anything 4chan created. The "post privacy age" will never exist, because humans have a deep desire to keep different things hidden from different people.

Furthermore, the things that we're losing the privacy on are recent innovations/inventions anyway. There's simply a time lapse between their creation and the creation of the technology to monitor it.
>>
>>54064797
>Why do Linuxfags constantly slander Windows 10 and say it's a botnet?
Because Linuxfags will slander any new Windows OS. But in this case, they're right.
>Why do they constantly equate telemetry with surveillance?
Because Windows 10 telemetry is monitoring YOU, not your computer.
>Why do they bring up the meme key from 17 years ago that was literally nothing?
Not actually sure what you're talking about, unless you mean the libdvdcss key they tried to censor from the Internet but became a meme instead.
>Do they think that by doing these things their pathetic desktop OS will gain more users?
It already has, and continues to do so.
>The only people who have anything to fear from Windows 10 are people who use child pornography. Even terrorists can use it.
This isn't a question, but no. Aside from the longstanding security concerns of Windows, Windows 10 changes the way updates are done so almost all updates are mandatory. They do this for two reasons: For better control of the hardware market, and so they can more easily push self-serving updates without scrutiny. It is actually much harder to screen the updates you receive on Win10. You won't know if you're a target or not.

>>
>>54068376
Probably because of how people try to convince them of using something else. Attacking them personally or their choice instead of just showing them how neat other systems can be makes them defend their stuff.
>>
>>54068318
Yes, but the privacy that was created after the industrial revolution are material things like the ability to live in your own home, to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the countryside, to have a separate bedroom where you can be alone, to afford books and notepaper, a private, indoor toilet and bath.

All that stuff allowed us to separate from the overcrowded and communal living, and none of that stuff will ever easily get taken away.

Things that are monitored now are all recent developments and innovations on old technology, and they're monitored because the information can be easily collected, analysed, and compared due to the standardised nature of it all. If you don't want to be monitored, assuming you're not someone to be targeted, all you need to do is resort to older, messier technology.

Even when AI gets advanced enough, that sort of stuff is probably never going to be tracked on a mass scale, simply because of basic problems, like the power needed to do it would be too great, or the cooling requirements would be too much.

So, bicycles over cars, letters over email, carrier pigeons over phones.

>Why do Linuxfags constantly slander Windows 10 and say it's a botnet?
The answer to op's question is for informing the 95%, convincing the other 5% that MS is screwing them and they should, if not stopping using windows at least tell MS to stop their bullshit, is a waste of time.

It is going, if it has not already gone, the way of the dodo.

The vast majority of the population, the lower class, will be heading towards more of an open pod hotel style existence. Look to some of the more central cities in the East for an early example.

You can't really have any privacy in that, especially with passive but all encompassing monitoring and surveillance.

It may suck for some on an individual level but it's simply the next part of our species advancing.
>>
>>54068383
