I haven't looked into it extensively. I was strongly encouraged to get an iPhone against my better judgement, and I can't wait to switch.

Sony is decently popular here, which makes sense. Sharp Aquos phones seem to be advertised in shops with some frequency. I've seen nexus stuff in stores but never in the wild.

Anyone have any experience with the Huawei Honor 5X? Looking for a $200 phone for T-mobile and considering this and the Moto G.
>>
>>54065042
why tho? It's almost completely the same spec-wise as the note 4, except it doesn't have a removable battery or microsd slot. It also isn't rootable at all on Verizon (or AT&T), unlike the Note 4, which just got a bootloader unlock on Verizon.

Because it looks so fucking sick. MicroSD slot isn't that big of a deal, I've never had a phone with it.
But if it still won't get rooted properly by the time I'll be ready to buy it, then I'll either wait or consider Nexus 6P, which is just a little less cool.

Hello /g/ents, would love some purchasing advice.
Had my Samsung A7 stolen and quickly bought a moto G, unfortunately the 16/2 version wasn't available, and I ended up getting 8GB storage with 1GB RAM. I need to get something that doesnt lag and freeze all the time. My average RAM-load is 99%...

What I'm trying to say is I need some advice on getting something that will fit these criterias:
>Norway, Telenor
>Sufficient RAM
>Not a shitty battery
I have a boner for slim phones but it's not important.
Budget: As little as possible, but up to 400 eur / 450 usd / 4000 nok

I got the Note 5 on a promotion when it first came out. The phone is great but, to be honest a large part of me wishes that I'd gone for the 6P.

The battery life on the Note is merely good enough, although fast charging somewhat compensates for this. The S pen is pretty useful but unless you really see yourself using it, the novelty will wear off pretty quickly. You may write off Micro SD expansion, but I'm already running out of space on my 32GB. Touchwiz sucks. Not nearly as badly as in the past, but still I miss vanilla Android very much which is a huge draw in favor of the Nexus.

The biggest wins for the Note are its stunning design, (It really is beautiful) and the camera, which takes some of the greatest shots I've ever managed on a phone. I've also yet to experience any real issues with performance.

You really can't go wrong though.

6P was always my dream, but I'm just starstruck by the Note 5 so my judgement is clouded. Especially with the S Pen -- I know I'll rarely use it, but damn it I want it in my life.

When the time comes in a few months I'll most likely go for 6P, because it will be cheaper than Note 5 and I still like it a lot. And it'll be my third Nexus, benefits of which can't be overstated (in no small part due to easy rooting procedure, compared to the clustefuck with Note 5).

Thanks for the insight, anon.

What i meant was less fuzzy pictures especially when enlarging the pictures. You can literally see the difference.

Not that the 1020 is bad, it has just aged and having 40mp doesn't mean it automaticly takes better pictures. Stuff like performance in low light conditions count too especially on a Smartphone where you usually dont have a very good flash.
>>
hey /spg/ is there a better deal than note 3 pro from alixpress for $250 to the USA?

>>54069905
I went from a Lumia 930 (which is superior to the 920 in every way) to a Nexus 6p and while it is not a world of difference the 6p does make better pictures, especially during the evenings.

Once again. I'm not saying the lumias are bad, I have always considered them better than most smartphones. But time and technology doesn't stand still and Sonys new sensor is really good.

enabling OEM unlock allows you to unlock the bootloader, but you generally need to do a command using ADB to actually unlock it, I don't know what you do for Samsung since they do a lot of proprietary stuff.

Do NOT lock your bootloader unless you are running 100% stock, it will cause your phone to bootloop and you won't be able to flash it to fix it. There are workarounds so it won't be permanently bricked, but it's not worth the hassle.

>>54069398
>>54069449
The Z5 Compact is apparently just under 4000 Norbucks and has pretty good battery life (Sony is known for this), enough RAM (2GB), and supports all the LTE bands used by Telenor. Only caveat is that it can overheat when shooting 4K video and the glass back can be fragile. Also it is pretty small, which can be a plus or a minus depending on your preference.

I dunno how much it goes for now in Norway, but I like my Nexus 5X. It gets pretty good battery life (but obviously depends on how you use it/what apps are installed) has a great camera, and you get updates for two years and you'll be the first to get Android N.

>>54071030
You just need a phone that supports the proper bands for your carrier. If you're using Sprint or Verizon or Boost, you are pretty much shit outta luck for getting unlocked phones since they rarely support CDMA which these carriers use.

AT&T and T-Mobile are more straight forward, just make sure you have Bands 4&17 for AT&T and Bands 4&12 for T-Mobile.

Currently the Nexus 5 has the absolute most ROMs available (including other operating systems like Sailfish and Ubuntu), but in the next few months that will be the 5X and 6P.
>Overall usability
depends what you like. Personally I like stock Android, but some people like the added features (read:bloat) that OEM skins provide. It's all personal preference.

I know you are looking for one phone that has all these characteristics, but every phone has strengths and weaknesses, there's no "Hero" phones (except perhaps the 6P)

HTC is apparently making the Nexus phones this year. If the 10 is any indication, they're back on their game and should make some good Nexus phones.

The Z3C has utterly shit battery after Lolipop, though I don't know how M is doing since I haven't received any new things. KitKat used to reach 8+ hours SoT with heavy one-day use or medium-heavy 2-day use with ease, now it struggles with 4 hours SoT.

Also, that sounds promising. There haven't been any in-depth reviews of the 10 yet, right? I might get that if the Nexus is another LG or Huawei, god forbid Lenovo/Motorola makes the next one.
>>
>>54071431
The warranty thing is only a recent issue that I doubt will last long.

The moto g is perfect. The battery life is amazing, the software is practically stock, it has adequate specs for general use, it's price is low, it support expandable storage, it will continue to be updated for a long time, delectable water resistance for when/if I drop my phone while shitposting in the bath tub, and it doesn't fall for the "super high res" meme that kills battery life and sucks up system resources for marginal if any noticeable picture quality. The only things I'd want over it would be the OP2 or 6P because near stock, updates, USB c, finger print scanner. No expandable storage though, and I'm still iffy on OP's new optional warranty support. Also, the price on then is a bit steeper, and with no water resistance, that feels too scary and not worth it.
>>
>>54071491

The battery life is pretty decent now, nothing like KK, but around 5+ hrs SoT. And really snappy now too surprisingly.

Speaking of Z3C does anyone know where to find OEM back glass replacements? I'm not talking about those chink knockoffs that are made of plastic.

wouldn't bet on it now that Lenovo owns Motorola

Also, if you have any issues and need to send it in for warranty, be prepared for months without a phone. They haven't been able to do warranty on the G, X, or 360 product lines since January.

Late to the party but I finally got myself an LG G4 in damned near mint condition recently, and while I read reviews and saw samples of the pictures it's capable of taking I have to say my jaw almost hit the floor after I took a few pics myself. I've owned some of the better flagships over the years and there's just nothing like this, not even the V10 seems to produce anything like the G4 does (I had a V10 so I still have some raw images to compare with this G4 I have now).

I had someone with an iPhone 6S tell me I was crazy thinking this G4 could take better pics than his device could so I put an offer: we'll take pics of the same scenes, night time, day time, whatever, in pure auto mode to make it fair (because if I were allowed to do that obviously I'd destroy that lame ass iPhone 6S handily because I'd shoot raw and also manually adjust the parameters per shot). After the shoot we'd pass a link to the image gallery to friends and family and ask them to judge the winner - 50 photos in all - with a simple "which one looks better to you overall" kind of simple polling set up. What was the prize? I'd give him my G4 if they chose the iPhone 6S by majority, and vice versa where I take his iPhone 6S.

Dumbass motherfucker actually fell for it.

49 times out of 50 my G4's images were chosen as better.

I sold his iPhone 6S an hour after I got it for about 2/3 what he paid for it cash, used the profit to order me a few spare batteries, a nice dock, two more leather back covers, and an Otterbox Commuter case for my G4 as well as some other goodies too.

The LG G4, taking the best pictures possible with a camera in a smartphone. Deal with it, bitches.

Responsive UI, excellent camera, good battery life, accepts SD cards, doesn't overheat, isn't fragile. A direct replacement for my old Nokia 808 would be fantastic. I was thinking of getting a Panasonic CM1, but it's been discontinued and likely won't get any more updates, which makes me a little nervous from a security standpoint, as I'll be taking the device to third world hellholes.

The S7 Edge would probably be my first choice, but I don't want to deal with scraping TouchJizz off my phone. The Z5C is another choice, but the glass back.

My Moto X 2014 was stolen and I got a Moto G Turbo to replace it for now.

The bad part is there is almost no support for the Turbo edition because it's only sold on emerging countries like India, Mexico and Brazil. There's zero development, even though it's as close to the Moto X Play as it can get.

Does anybody know of any tips for the device? I already rooted it. I'm really liking the battery life and storage options. It also feels more solid in the hand compared to the X 2014.

the LG Friends is a good idea and I hope they improve on it, but having the whole bottom come off means ugly separation lines. also fingerprint scanner on back isn't good (most of the time, phone is lying on its back)

Yeah but if you're in the US it's a great deal. My hands are pretty big so it looks "normal" sized to me but as long as you don't wear skinny jeans then it doesn't seem like too much of a problem. It's been at $100 on amazon. I think the higher price is worth it.

>I'm not looking for a powerful device, but one that can just manage basic functions fairly well, and one under $100.
You'll have to settle for 1GB RAM phones then but I implore you to reconsider, 1GB of RAM will drive you mad especially if you browse more than 1 or 2 web pages at the same time.

I just can't really deal with a phone larger than 5". I don't have huge hands. The S6 was a little too big for me, but it wasn't too big to be unwieldy. That's basically as large as I can handle without making the whole experience feel cumbersome.

Looking for a new smartphone, current one is an "Aquos Crystal Sharp"
Been using with Boost Mobile
Tray for sim card shit the bed months back
Pain in the ass to charge due to cable fraying
Power button doesn't work unless I squeeze the top of the phone tightly
Camera doesn't work at all

That being said I'm looking for a new phone. Somewhere between $150-$200, so yeah, nothing too insane. I'm not against switching providers either cause everywhere I check shows pretty much everyone has better coverage than Boost. However, I'm looking for an unlimited plan. (Talk/text/data)
I'm no phone enthusiast and honestly when I'm out on the go I mostly only ever check e-mail, text, maybe message in an app, or use the GPS. Occasionally calls here and there.

Last I saw my data, I use usually under 2GB a month. Almost always connected to wifi.
Far as carriers go some that are popular somewhat around here that are non-contract are Straighttalk, Cricket, Boost, MetroPCS.

Suggestions on what phones I should check out that suit my needs and are in my price range?

tl;dr
>Need new phone
>No apple
>USA - NY - Long Island
>$150-$200
>Will take any carrier with "Unlimited" plan
>Size unimportant, just a decent screen
