>>
>>54042661
750ti sucks in every case except for if you were a dumbass and got a prebuilt with a shit PSU. It lost to the R7 260x in most games and was more expensive. Now the GTX 950 is just miles better.

There are 3 based hardware that's still relevant:
LGA1366 (overclockable 6 core Westmere Xeons @ 4.2 GHz+ are seriously amazing)
Sandy Bridge K series CPUs just due to high clock speeds
AMD Radeon HD 7950/7970 has amazing architecture that's still relevant today and is going to get yet another performance boost in DX12. GCN was such a long lasting architecture that has seen continuous driver optimizations, but now more importantly, a new API.

>>
>>54045981
If you run Linux it's still better to go with gtx 750 ti as it costs 100 usd right now and the drivers are actually optimized for Linux ( the proprietary ones ).

Otherwise on windows yes buying a 100$ r7 260x is the superior option.

>Newer models are 75W, no PCIe power connector required
i'd like to see the actual performance when this card is locked to 75W draw.

Every other card nvidia has produced and said "doesn't need a 6-pin power plug!" has drawn well over 100W across the PCIe socket which will fry it pretty damn fast.
>>
>>54047968

It does not draw more than 75W otherwise GTX 750 Ti & GTX 750 wouldn't exist

>>
>>54046445
This is actually true, compared to the lower cards the 980Ti has a better price/performance value. Yet amazing OC capabilities, 1400 MHz with no problem, 1500+ sometimes possible.
>>54046505
If you play on 2 or 4K you'll need 6 GB, and these cards are not ment for 1080p anymore.
>>
I'm considering the 960 4GB.

Reasoning:
* Even if the Pascsl flagships are out in a couple months, it will take several more for the lower end models to be released
* I need it to run under OS X (hackintosh), so recent AMD cards are a no-go
* The 950->960 performance boost seems worth the price gap
* The 2->4GB boost also seems worth it considering how VRAM hungry recent games are getting

Am I wrong?
>>
>>54042661
What's the best alternative to GTX 750 Ti, price doesn't matter, but something possibly 0db and no auxilialiry power required? Maybe wait for Pascal/Polaris options?
>>
>>54049024
>OSX
>Games
I would stick with the IGP then.
>>
>>54049024
I have the 960 4GB and it's pretty good. I got it a few months back. It does just fine in 1080p gaming, even on Linux, but I don't game that much anyway.

What I can tell you is that if you have even one good reason to not go AMD, listen to yourself and don't. AMD cards are for pure gaming builds running windows. If you want to do anything else with your PC it'll just give you needless headaches.
>>
>>54049148
Sorry, should have been clearer. I dual boot, gaming is on Windows. I don't play on OS X, but the card still needs to fully work under it.

>>54049164

HD7950

>cheap as fucking dirt
>never had a driver issue

this is literally the card i tell every budget builder to get for 1080p the benchmarks online say its slower than a gtx 960 but that is complete fucking bullshit ive owned both cards and the 960 shits the bed past medium/high settings while this fucker can do high/ultra and push 55-60fps

>dat 384-bit memory bus
>dat 3gb of VRAM
>dat 1,800 raw shaders

buy a used first gen i7 with mobo for cheap and then match that up with one of these and you have solid 1080p for next to nothing. And even though crossfire is limited in games that have crossfire support two of these drives 1440p, 60hz or a 120hz, 1080p screen just fine

7950/280 was a meh chip when in first released but after tonga replaced it and prices dropped simultaneously with drivers maturing and boosting its performance by 25% (I literally saw my benchmark score jump by EXACTLY 24.8% after the omega driver released)
>>

Macs have historically used nVidia chipsets when a dedicated graphics solution was used.
