Come here to discuss since the other guy's thread failed.

I currently have an LG L50 Sporty and it's getting a bit rusty as of late, takes a while to open/close apps and it's overall getting very lazy.
Due to some happenings I got ahold of a Xperia LT30, and comparing the specs it doesn't seem all that better, if at all. I was told it had some issues registering the SIM card and it sporadically stopped to register it completely, rebooting itself when it happens.
Also, the thing was imported from Burgerland so it has a shitton of at&t bloat I have no use for, so I don't know if making a bloatless Android install would be a good idea. I'd have to learn to do it too, since I've never done an OS install on a phone at all.
Would you say it's worth it to make the change? I want to be sure before going for it since I have a lot of games, saves, files, images and whatnot on my old one that aren't really impossible to move but I'm almost to lazy to consider it without being 100% positive.

Thoughts on the HTC One A9?

I'm a light user and mostly use my phone for Group Me, Texting and Social Media shit. Due for an upgrade and I really don't want a Galaxy S7 or the LG G5.

Currently rocking a HTC One M8, but the battery has become kinda shit.

Shit, I even want that now.

I want to get a second device to fiddle with. Work has me on a iPhone 6s but I miss android.

What's the best bang for my buck that has an unlocked bootloader or can be unlocked? I want to screw around with ROMs.

Would be nice if it could actually be used comparably to my iPhone but I'm not super picky.

Around $200 or less would be preferred.

Thing is I already have the LT30 at hand.
I don't really have the cash to buy a new phone but this one I got from an acquaintance free of charge.

In fact, I'm testing right now if it's still doing the SIM rebooting bullshit.

>>
>>54037665

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't able to figure out a way to tell what device CID a phone has without having someone have some android knowledge.

As in, you can just say to someone "Hey what does it say under the battery?". My understanding is it needs to start with 15 or something.

I accidentally cracked my iphone 5s screen 4 days ago. The night it happened, my screen is still responsive, but the morning after, i can barely slide to unlock my phone. Why is this happening?
>>
>>54037746
Your iPhone is kill. Consider getting an android phone, the zte warp elite ($100 on amazon) has 2GB of RAM and a microsd slot that accepts 128GB microsd cards.

That's what I did anyway, I used to have an iPhone 4 before that.
>>
>>54037746
The crack probably spread or was deep enough to affect the digitizer. You can replace the screen for like $30 now. Check around town, someone can probably swap it for you.
>>
>>54037882

>>54038010
Oh then nevermind the warp elite only works with a US carrier (boost mobile). You're gonna have to settle for a $100 moto e (1GB RAM) or $220 moto g (2GB RAM version) if you want to save money with android.

Ok OP here again, rather than just fucking up sometimes, now it flat out refuses to register the SIM.
Each time I put it back in it reboots saying it detected a SIM card, then it loads back up again still saying no SIM card.
I tried firmware update with that Sony PC Companion shit and it's still the same.

Apart from that the phone is in top notch shape. It's obnoxious how the one thing phones were made for is the one thing it's not working on this one.

Apparently there's some other dudes with the same problem in the forums but the one mod that strolled over is just parroting the same stuff any tech support says.
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-T-TX/LT30p-automatically-reboots/td-p/597087

I was thinking about getting my first smartphone and leaving verizon so I can get one without a data plan.

What I'm looking for
>something fast and responsive (the only android device I've ever owned is a transformer prime and it's been a laggy, unresponsive nightmare)
>good gaming capabilities
>expandable storage
>decent camera
>unlocked would be nice, but not really necessary if I like the plan I end up getting

Like I said above I'm looking for a carrier with no data plan, so I was considering Project Fi ($20/month) with the Nexus 5X or T-Mobile ($25/month) since they have a lot more phones to choose from

and lastly on a sort of related note: are there any phones that have a built in gamepad or was the Xperia Play the only one of it's kind?
>>
>>54041149
budget?
>>
>>54041149

Play is alone in what it is. 5X is a great phone but isn't expandable.

Currently have a Motorola moto X pure. Still have yet to root and such. Is it worth it? I mean I know what I can do with root. Not looking to install Cyanogenmod, just stuff like Greenify experimental features, use Titanium backup to remove some system apps, install custom recovery etc.

Main thing is xposed Framework. Does it work on Android 6.0?
>>

I'm looking for a new phone that is as good or better than the Samsung Galaxy S4
What it must be is:
>same or more powerful processor
>same or smaller screen
>same or longer battery life
>space for micro SD card
>same price or cheaper
I've been looking for a while but I've been out of the phone market for too long to be in on the new stuff.

Galaxy S4 from boost mobile is your best bet.

specs:
>quad core krait 300 @ 1.9 GHz CPU
>adreno 320 GPU
>5" 1080p screen (441 ppi)
>2GB RAM
>2,600 mAh battery (removable)
>16GB internal + microsd slot

The $30/month plan from boost offers 2GB (grows to 5GB free) of high speed data then unlimited data at 2G speeds. I know you said you won't use data but it's always good to be able to use it just in case.

Is there any new phone with high end specs and that's somewhat cheap that have a custom ROM community right now? I've been running Cyanogenmod ever since I got my first Android, a Galaxy S3, but it almost feels like I have to say fuck it and go back to stock soon.

I currently have a Oneplus One and I want to try a phone with a smaller screen, I've been looking at the Xiaomi Mi5 but I don't know if it's going to get any custom ROMs so I'm thinking about just picking it up anyways and run stock on it for while.

Also, am I the only one who misses Holo? I love the design, it felt so futuristic. I installed CM11 on my S3 today just for that sweet nostalgia.

Older (pre 2013) have bigger copper area. If your phone use nanosim, you shouldn't cut them by yourself (even if you have the puncher)

Ask your provider for a new one

Is it possible a phone couldn't be detecting a microSIM because the copper area is too large?
I was trying this phone before with my old, old SIM and it wouldn't recognize it even though it's still a micro port, then I tried it with an uglyass-cutted microSIM with a smaller copper area and it worked just fine.

Or maybe it's that the phone has a few things like this over the M9 -

>USB C for faster charging plus more reliable connector unlike the finicky though cheap micro usb

>MUCH better profile, bezel is gone, still big screen

>Capacitive unlock

>Much more powerful processor

>Now 4gig RAM and knowing android you need it these days, all these fucking animations and pretty though costly

>MUCH better camera

>2 day battery

>ALL bloat removed. Sense was already very bloat lightweight and HTC decided to go full neckbeard with these specs too and just make it one google app for everything with bootloader privileges I hear.

>Fucking DAC better than any phone out there, including G5 with it's shitshow modules.

This is THE /g/ phone spec wise, only problem is the price which HTC always puts on the high side.

Check this shit out.
The one on the right works fine as far as I could tell even if it's shoddily cut.
The one on the left is mine. I've had it since like 2010 too. That one flat out doesn't even get registered on the new phone, but it works perfect on the one I have currently.

They're both technically micros, but their pins are different. Could this be why it's shitting out the phone?

Is the Nexus 5x ($200) worth it if you can get on Project Fi?

Does any other phone compete at the $200 price point?
>>
>>54045412
I'm the OP. That one from the pic.

I know for a fact this particular carrier doesn't lock it since I distinctly remember the person who gave it to me had this same carrier.
Shortly after it did start rebooting itself when it stopped registering the sim for a second, which always forces a reboot on this model. I don't know how their sim looked in relation to that comparison pic I posted but I do believe it was older than mine is already.
One thing though, it never got to the point where it didn't even acknowledge the sim like it's happening with mine, it just rebooted constantly but on startup it did recognize the card until it eventually reset again.

When I tried the sim on the right it worked first try, and that only leads me to guess it must have something to do with the copper area of the sim. That's pretty much the only clue I have, and if it ain't that then I honestly don't fuckin know what it could be cause the rest of the phone functions A-Ok.
>>
>>54045544
I would highly advise you stay away from phones without a microsd slot and meme carriers. mSD cards will only get cheaper and the cloud sucks. Having more local storage is always better and being able to use as much data as you want to for a fixed price is always better imho. Project Fi can end up costing you greatly if you use too much data even if it's just one day.

For the $200 price range I think an S4 from boost would be better. Though specs are not as good they are still way better than a moto g. You also get access to cheap data plans including unlimited high speed data.
>>
>>54043937
That wouldn't make much sense, since it would pay more to shill for the big behemoths like apple or samsung. It's more likely that reviewers in the media know HTC is doomed if they don't manage to have a commercially successful product this year, so there must be some pity in their willingness to hype the HTC 10.

On the other hand, there isn't any major or obvious flaw in this phone, so it's hard to say anything bad about it, without being a finicky cunt.

The only people who are criticising the 10 are S7 e fanboys who need to justify their purchase to themselves and maybe some nexus owners who feel the nexus hype is being overshadowed by the 10 hype.

The htc 10 has had very limited coverage iin the media. I haven't seen any news about it in the mainstream media, like it happens when apple launches a new model.

It was mostly tech sites which covered the htc 10 launch. So probably 95% of normies don't even know about it. Heck, Zuckerfeld's fake event had more coverage than the htc 10 and most people don't know and don't care about it.

The T-Mobile prepaid deal
$30 a month
5GB LTE, unlimited 2G after

Seriously a great deal, especially since T-Mobile has gotten a lot more LTE in the past few years. Also, streaming music doesn't count against the cap and you can take advantage of their binge on thing that also makes video streaming not count against the cap. The only shitty thing is my Nexus 5 doesn't have LTE band 12, so I can't take advantage of a lot of their new coverage, but I just preordered the HTC 10.

Windows Phone is the biggest sinking ship there is, and Microsoft's silence since W10 rolled out is all but proof they've given up.

950 and 950 XL are overpriced and not worth the cash. If you want a big phone consider the Note 3, or my personal favorite, the Moto X Pure. Both are huge. Not sure how much Notes go for, but Moto X Pures are about $250-300 cheaper than the 950 XL.

older and slower chips in general. Their newer shit actually keeps pace with Samsung and Snapdragon stuff but they're EXTREMELY closed source is just about every regard. Phones with MediaTek chips in them usually are a bitch to get root, and custom ROM support is non-existent because of the closed source shit.

In budget tier phones, old MediaTek chips don't support 4G LTE either so they're stuck on standard 4G. Recently though I've started to see phones under $200 with Snapdragon 210/410 chips in them like the LG K7 I bought my little sister. Cost me $110 at the T-mobile store outright. Snapdragon 210 (supports 4G LTE), 1.5gb RAM, 16gb internal space, MicroSD slot.

Having owned 2 phones with MediaTek chips in them, (BLU Energy and BLU HD 5 Windows phone), they run great for basic tasks but do not expect the world from them or top tier gaming performance.

If it had the best components the suppliers would rape them on costs. Everyone (makers/brands) is competing to 1) design within their means for max profits. 2) acquire supply lines for components with guaranteed min orders/reliable outputs to meet demand. 3) undercut the competitors.

I think if a phone in Q2 2016 had the best body, battery, cameras, display, processor, ram, antennas/radio/connectivity, etc it would retail for like $900. And the market for that is so small it doesn't justify pursuing a model like that. Sure Apple sells their shit for that much but they control the core development inhouse and component supply lines for their own devices through corpprate partnerships (like a retainer for a lawyer).

The camera is fine from a hardware standpoint, if a bit slow. There's some problems with HTC's camera app that they're going to roll out a patch for. Mostly the focus going crazy in low light situations, and strong colors screwing with the colors of the entire picture. Software issues, not hardware ones.

Also this are the band the phone has for 4G
LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

Check if some of them are compatible with the ones provided by your carrier.

I've been curious about those chinkphones for some time but after some research it seems like they cut a bunch of corners to lower the price and it results in pretty poor user experience.

>iPhone SE
That's pretty tempting desu but I gave the iPhone 6 Plus a try last year and despite the fuckhugeness of it, having to use iTunes for everything is a pain in the ass

>Xperia Z5C
That's what I'm leaning towards right now. Only drawbacks is pretty shit camera and Sony being a faggot with updates, otherwise it's a real beauty.

Tough choices ;_;

The only phones worth from Xiaomi right now are the Mi5 (not the 32gb version though, and the Redmi 3 Note Pro (the Snapdragon one with 3GB of RAM). Avoid the rest if you can.

Yeah there's no much choice on the 5" area.

Also there are alternatives to iTunes, but it's still a PITA having to use a program just to transfer files, I agree.

Touchwiz is a custom GUI developed by Samsung that has had a history of slowing down phones due to either poorly optimized code or too many fancy animations.

It is extremely simple and easy to remove (no root needed): just install another custom launcher like Nova. Though it won't remove touchwiz completely it will remove the lag that it can cause.

However most versions of touchwiz have been greatly improved and optomized and don't cause the lag that it used to on phones like the Note and Galaxy S2.

boost, $30 per month. Get unlimited call/text + 4gb of high speed data then unlimited data at 2G speeds. I can also use my phone as a mobile hotspot for free (uses high speed data). I also sometimes get a $10 2GB data pack some months to extend the high speed data amount.

I'm currently deciding between getting a Nexus 5x (project Fi) or some other phone like the G4 for ATT. Is there any other good phone in the $200-250 price zone? Is Project Fi a meme? Should I just go the extra mile and get a G5?
