Wasn't this from some /g/ thread yesterday?

Couldn't he use some data recovery software on the drives to restore most of the data? rm doesn't write garbage data over the deleted files right? As long as he didn't do anything else it should be easy to recover.
>>
>>54036398
Yeah, he could. But it'd only recover known file types that have readable magics and headers with file offset data. SO say goodbye to a lot of text and random other binary data.

...Unless you manually dig through the drive with a hex editor.
>>
>>54035980
What?
Last time I heard about some bad code destroying stuff the dude who did it got promoted.

I just wanted to say I have never seen that kinda stuff happen on Windows servers, only on Unix shit.

Stay mad, cucknixfags.
>>
>>54037710
Because no one uses Windows servers.
>>
>>54037759

You wanna know how I know you've never had a sysadmin job?

Because Windows Server is literally industry standard for enterprise servers.

Literally every organization out there has at least an Exchange and an Active Directory server.

Heck, you can't even do directory and groupware without Windows workstations and Windows servers. That's why Microsoft dominates the professional computing market.

I understand your frustration.

now that is embarrasing. "offsite" yet mounted on the active systems, something was bound to go wrong eventually here

people laugh

I have actual cold stomach and fear running through me, even just reading about this makes me physically ill

this is still his fault and the worst thing is they WILL fuck up the rm command now because of this idiot

Those are, however, typically the only thing Windows is used for. 70-80% of the server market is *nix in various shapes and colours.

Has this been confirmed by any independent sources?

Kinda funny you say that considering they have 33% server marketshare still and the very place this was posted (stack*) all run off of Windows ISS.

Not really. I can think of numerous other use cases for Windows Servers. Just off the top of my head: MSSQL, RDP terminal, .NET application, SharePoint, I could go on forever.

Stay mad, unixcuck.

Actually that depends. If for example he used XFS (a very efficient FS) he is truly fucked. Recovery will actually be impossible and he's fucked.
>>
>>54041756
You mean running in a VM on an esxi server.
>>
>>54041769
esxi is a linux kernel
>>
>>54041827
And? It is still vmware and anything that matters in it isn't open source. You run esxi so your 500 windows servers can be consolidated, but you always keep at least dc physical.

Doesn't change the fact that whether you like it or not, windows is heavy in enterprise. And it is for a reason.
>>
>>54041401
You're using verizon, aka getting raped each month with bullshit fees.
>>
>>54041851

>for some reason the more common use of ESXi in any way negates NT's presence and significance in enterprise infrastructure
>for some reason the hypervisor is literally everything
>>
>>54041982
Yeah, NT is so good VMWare won't base its products on it. They use a hobbyist/hippie kernel instead. Because it's better. Which any competent sysadmin knows.
>>
>"You're going out of business. You don't need technical advice, you need to call a lawyer."

damn son.

10/10 thread would read again, kek'd heavily
>>
>>54041915
Right about what? You don't use esxi to run linux servers (because no one cares), you run it to run windows servers.

Or you just use hyper-v. But windows is king, and going to wikipedia and showing that web servers are all linux is not an argument.
>>
>>54035980
Where's the smug anon quietly mentioning backups?
>>
>>54042684
Quietly shaking his head as the idiot managed to wipe his backups in what can only be described as a biblical display of hilarious stupidity.
