A $70 A8-7600 APU is more than good enough for emulation. I should know since I run dolphin and PSX on my HTPC and have had problems with literally 0 games. Emulators have improved you know, they can use more than 1 thread now.
In fact it's a far superior solution to a pentium because it has 4 threads for better multi-tasking and a fuckton better iGPU.

nope, the access latency may be higher, but the difference between pata and usb1.1 is just too great, you might save a few milliseconds to begin with, but you'll lose much more doing the transfer
