Well desu, I have the M8, which was a great iconic/classic phone. And I rarely use the dual stereo speakers to listen to music. They're just nice to have when I watch a stream or some youtube video, because the quality of the sound is amazing for a smartphone. That stereo vibrant sound is worth a thousand keks.
But this phone seems to be going in a different direction with the woofer and tweeter. It's supposed to keep the high quality sound but the listening experience seems to be adapted to how most people use phones, that is by holding them in their hand vertically.

They just took a slab of aluminium and carved it on the edges to get that chamfer. And they made the back have a slight curve so that the phone feels easy to hold in the hand and easy to pick up from a flat surface.
There isn't much investment in looks otherwise, as far as I can tell. The front doesn't really have anything that looks nice, it looks like a generic good android phone, you could mistake it for an LG or some other android, imo. Or some past Samsung model. There's not much uniqueness on the front, the back is where the model becomes distinctive.
This is because they dropped the HTC logo from the front, so now there's nothing to make it look less generic. Especially since they added the fingerprint home button which looks like a Samsung button.

I think they look fine. People are too used to photos that are way too contrasty these days with the blacks crushed to fuck. At least with a more natural "base", you can adjust the image afterwards, plus RAW is a bonus.
However the lens looks bad. The corners of the photos look plain blurry compared to the centre, and I'm not talking about the macro shots where the background is supposed to be blurry. Wide angle shots are bad too.

I suppose having a 3000mAh battery makes up for that. If they say it can last for 2 days, it will probably last at least one full day without charging, if not a bit more. Considering screen resolution has increased and the CPU is more powerful, it's significant progress over their past phones.
It's not a revolutionary phone, but it surely puts HTC back on the map. It just doesn't quite make them shine next to other phone makers. It just makes them relevant again. Personally I can't find a major flaw with this phone, at first sight. Need to see some well-done reviews, though.

If you look at other pics, it seems iphones tend to blow up the contrast to mask for lack of detail. LG tends to blow up contrast and sharpen some to achieve more crisp detail. HTC seems to keep closer to a more realistic shot.

The LG shot seems to have the best balance of detail, colour and brightness here. But each shot seems to have a different focus.

I've had the same "stereo" speaker setup from a modded Nexus 5 a long time ago though. Pretty sure the mod debuted on the 1+1 or something, and it does wonders without take up bezel space on the front. About time they got rid of the ugly front logo and speaker grills.
