It's actually really easy, especially if you just develop film and then scan it instead of making paper prints. I just got back into it after almost 10 years and was able to develop my first roll successfully with nothing but a temp/time sheet from the internet, a basic thermometer, and a stopwatch. (Plus the chemicals and darkroom equipment, obviously, but the whole setup for that cost less than $100.)
