Needed to install linux for 1 fucking time in my life for R explicitly:
> installing java8 64 bit is a fucking pain
> installing R seems okay
> but then installing packages in R completely blows
> errors everywhere
> rJava package can't find fucking Java which is installed
> every 2nd package I try to install fucking fails

> having to pray to god everytime you type a cmd in terminal

fuck this fucking meme OS, Ubuntu is supposed to be new-user-friendly, for once in my fucking life I needed this OS and it blew up in my face. I haven't even tried to do something tricky, it's literally just installing R, then installing Java, then installing rJava-package in R. So yeah, its nice to look at all ya fancy riced machines, but for productive work, this shit is useless for productive work.
>>
>>53996880
had to refer to 20 StackOverflow threads and reconfigure Java paths to make it finally work. Now it seems fine but wtf?! No wonder people stay away from this OS, it's like rocket science for someone who is used to Win7 + OSX (which is my setup on a MacbookPro with bootcamp) inb4 macfag: I didn't work with the OSX system for over a year, always boot into Win7.

I dislike this argument. A big reason people shy away from Linux is due to the software suppport, for the user it doesn't matter if it's the 3rd party software developer or the OS that's fucking shit up. At the end of the day a change they'll notice coming from Windows is said software having issues.

Whose fault it is is irrelevant to the end user.

The same shit. I've been using Windows for all my life and OS X in parallel last 7 years I guess, don't remember, but for the last one I have less experience. Anyway, I had sometimes some issues, but every time I was able to quickly find the solution or the behavior was predictable. I tried tons of programming languages and technologies - didn't have much problems.
> fell for loonix meme
Attempts to configure environments, VMs, compilers on loonix were the fucking pain. I tried it just because I didn't want to pay for MS products, some of them are too fucking expensive. So, on the turdix I had to do everything manually even some simple stuff which is automated on other systems, every time, every fucking time when I was googling something - I found it on some shitty forums with obsolete resolution and etc. I wrote this post on /g/ 100 fucking times and I don't want to describe everything once again. Loonix is not suitable for software development, I can't even image what would happen if I had to start some project using this imbecile OS. Yeah "it just werks" meme is not a fucking meme, it just fucking works and has a huge fucking amount of advantages regarding software development, but one big minus for MS - almost everything is not free and you have to pay for it, the same shit about OS X. The only one advantage of loonix that is free, but that's not enough. Unfortunately.

Yes, if you are owner of a company and you pay other people to make software its a different definition.

If they can choose os that is working out of box then start doing task they are paid for

or

if they have to fix os or find workaround waste on this several hours and then start given task

What would be better from your perspective if you were paying them money?
