Wut? Windows XP was an insecure piece of shit that just happened to be around at the height of the internet boom. There wasn't anything it could do that 2000 or NT4 couldn't do either.
Replace it with Vista and it'll be better.

Actually Microsoft really progressed with windows 7 to be honest.
Windows 8.1 was a modern polish of 7 but then windows 10 was just windows 8.1 with cameras, key loggers and all the nasty shit.

I know this is bait, but wow.
Win10 now has the useful parts of linux you don't need anything else except maybe OS X for a macbook.
>>53991248
>Win10 now has the useful parts of linux
Interesting. When did Windows 10 implement part of the Linux kernel?
>>53991248
It does but in the end Visual Studio is still the superior choice for developing / debugging so really not a change.
If I want to develop for Linux with the UNIX tool chain then I'll do it on Linux not on windows.

Unix without the X11 shit and a nice DE.

Depends for who I guess? I'm a semi-normalfag and besids Win 10 spying problems (that can be solved easily), it's probably the best Windows for a normal use. I don't miss anything from older Windows versions and there's new stuff, everything's pretty smooth for me, so, yeah.
I'll just hijack in here instead of making another topic, but is Ubuntu still the best Linux for beginners/Win users/doesn't want to do anything special besides web/games/multimedia?
Any newer solid alternatives?
>>53992598
Yes it still is (there's also Linux Mint), but try it in a VM first to get a feel of the power of loonix/get around the package manager and whatnot.

come back when you have a SENSIBLE, transparent os

OP here.
I put Windows 10 in shit tier because:
- Built in spyware
- Cortana never works
- Game Windows minimize at random
- Taskbar and Start Bar only work about 30% of the time.
- Updates can crash your system for any random amount of time
- Program calls suck fucking ass.
- Picture viewer calm works 0% of the time. I can't even view pictures without editing them.
- Calculator call is busted. My Win10 can't even use its own built in calculator.
Overall, when you have XP and 7 in your Arsenal, Windows 10 is a piss poor excuse for an OS.
It had a few features I really liked, like monitor based aerosnap, but the bad far outweighed the good.
>>53994452
I'm gonna pull a Linuxfag here and go with the presumption that you broke your system and that it's your fault.
I have never encountered any of these problems.
Also:
>complains about spyware
>has Cortana enabled
Fucking.
OP again,
And as far as XP and older, I started using computers with MS-DOS and have used and been proficient in every version of Windows since 95. 98 was forgettable for the most part. ME was trash amongst trash, and XP was damn near perfect for its time. An OS doesn't maintain market domination for 10 years by being bad.
7 was, in my opinion, the closest to perfect Windows got. 8, 8.1, and 10 took big steps back in almost all regards.
And the fact that Microsoft is ditching Windows, combined with Windows' 3 straight failures, combined me to leave Windows behind. After being a loyal Microsoft fanboy until Win8 and the XbOne happened.
>>53994511
Happens on a lot of people's machines. I've seen these problems on more than my own.
And no. I've been working with Windows my whole life and work in Cyber Security. I'd know if I'm the one that fucked it up.
partician tier: windows
nigger tier: linux
>>53994607
Is that because niggers always want free shit?
mint is just too fucking easy. my mom and grandma have been running it for years. support tickets from them are almost non-existent
various linux flavors are best for all kinds of applications. legacy systems, embedded stuff, tweakers, etc
OSX is great for non-technical users or special applications, and I do like it's semblance to linux
windows is just fucking terrible. I can't believe how many problems people have with it.
>cat unrelated
>>53994653
I'm a big fan of Mint so far, but I have no problem admitting I'm very new to Linux.
Anyone is free to give reasons why the dislike or like it.
>>53994680
some people don't like it because it's too easy. the package handling is easy and popular. the system requirements are reasonable.
As far as linux distros are concerned, ubuntu-based distros are a little bloated, albeit for convenience sake. the recent security breach of their ISOs is also concerning.
depending on what your application is or what you want to get out of the linux experience, there could be better distros for you

Was Vista actually bad?
I really liked it. And I used it from 2007-2009.
Was a good OS. Much better looking than XP, and it definitely brought much more innovation and features to the table than Windows 7/8/10.

compatibility and speed was the issue
>>53994936
Basic usability, no not really.
The problem with it was that it was too different from its immediate predecessor. It scared a lot of people, had compatibility issues, and had a lot of bugs.
Vista's failure is what made 7 so damn good though. Microsoft actually learned from Vista.
4/5 of Microsoft's latest desktop OS have shit the bed. Doesn't look good for the future.
>>53994936
reminded me of when Ubuntu switched to Unity.
Changing things for the sake of changing things, disadvantages for power users, not really more intuitive for novices, and it seemed to eat RAM for no good reason
>>53995050
Forgot about how bad Vista ate RAM.
It was like the entire machine became Chrome, except shitty and useless.
