It's even worse here.

Cable companies own all the news channels and newspapers.

And, the cable companies are owned by cell carriers.

If politicians dare to intervene in telecom market, they get really nasty coverage in the newspapers.

See what they did to Stephen Harper for allowing a fourth national cell phone carrier to enter the market.

20 down is considering "average" now. At a push. But it's laughable to call it "fast" compared to what the rest of the world offers at comparable price points.

I'm in the UK, for £36/month (Roughly $50) I get 36/8, Unlimited downloads, No throttling at peak times, Freeview Set-top box, and a SIM loaded with 500 minutes, 5000 texts, and 5MB of data.

And this is with Talk Talk, possibly the worst Broadband provider in the UK.

>>
>>53995648
My beef with bell is their very very slow roll out of faster speeds.

I haven't been able to get speeds faster than 25mbit with bell ever.
No one I know has speeds faster than that with Bell, you have to be very lucky to ether live in a new development with fiber laid down from the start or winning the lottery and bell deciding to hook up your area with fiber.

If they seriously don't speed up their roll out they will lose many customers to Rogers which when it says gigabit is available, it means its available to more than half of their subs.

>Bell has FibreOP plans for 940/100mbps plus almost everything on TV and unlimited world-wide calling for around $180CAD/month.

Where are these mythical plans ? because all I see are gigabit for $150/month.
Somehow I doubt they will throw in TV + phone for only 30 bucks more.
They are bell after all.

What province do you live in? Just noticed this, but it seems like all the provinces around NB (Quebec, PEI, NS, NL) have shitty options for Bell/Rogers internet, if any options at all. A lot of people probably have to go with Xplornet.

Ontario seems fine, but that's a given. Not too sure about west of there though, I hear Shaw is out there, and it's comparable to Xplornet.
>>
>>53989605
Fucking prank right?

If Toronto goes well, Bell and Rogers might actually give a shit about providing good service.

Wish Google Fiber would come to Ottawa and save us...
>>
>>53993271
Where?
>>
>>53994507
55/mth how for 250/20??

Right now I'm thoroughly pissed of at Bell. They capped my internet to 8Mbps upload, and again with the unguarantwed upload speed bullshit. I pay for 10Mbps, it worked fine for months before, and now this shit.

Call multiple times, problwm solved, but now it seems they can't budge because "it's all my neighbourhood can handle".

Fuck Bell. I'm going to Heronet come next month. Sure, they resell Bell, but assuming they OWN their bandwidth amd just use Bell's Fiber nodes, then I'm confident they won't jerk me around.

This might be wrongly >>, but it's more just to stay away from Bell. They're only hemoraging themselves. As well, I'm really tempted to go Rogers, but alas, no cable upstairs...
>>
Does Google fibre just data mine the shit out of you?

Do we really want google to become an isp? Think of the implications this has on our privacy, especially outside the us
>>
>>53995932
>Ontario seems fine, but that's a given

Not really.

let me pick a few random homes in the GTA on google maps and see what Bell offers

>28 Heathwood Dr Brampton, ON L7A 1Y6
50mbit max from Bell

>5447 STARWOOD DR MISSISSAUGA, ON, L5R3Y1.
50mbit max

>376 WATSON AV OAKVILLE, ON, L6J3V8.
50mbit max

>32 HARLOW CR ETOBICOKE, ON, M9V2Y5.
50mbit max

>138 BOGERT AV NORTH YORK, ON, M2N1K8.
50mbit max

>104 FRANKDALE AV EAST YORK, ON, M4J4A3.
25mbit max

I didn't cherry pick any stuff, just randomly picked some areas and checked the available speeds.
I didn't discard any homes with gigabit in this list, litterally these are the only homes I searched and their results.

dude its simple enough, just have two tabs open, one for google maps, the other for bell.ca and check addresses.

All I do is find a random area with homes and zoom in until I get an address to enter on bells site

Bell is way, way, fucking behind. DSL tech can only go so far with those thin wires.
As I said earlier, unless Bell speeds up their roll out of faster speeds they will start to lose lots of subs to Rogers.
>>
>>53996186
I'm tempted to go with Start.ca or something, and just run cable upstairs through my vents or something.

Albeit, the 100/10 deal rogers has is pretty fuckkn neato, but I forget the post 3 month price.
>>
>>53989967
(You)
>>
>>53996112
Jesus Christ man, that's bad.

99% of the time, if you live within any town limits in NB, you can get Bell FibreOP, and they'll offer the 940/100 package.

Anyone living outside town limits can usually get Rogers Ignite, a fiber/coax hybrid that is marketed at 250 mbps no cap, but you rarely will get that, speeds will vary depending on area congestion. Still, not bad. They also offer converged service bundles (TV, home phone, internet)

It's only people who live 20+ minutes away from town that are stuck on Xplornet and their data caps (or Bell high-speed, which is fucking garbage), but they still offer 25 mbps if you're able to get LoS, or 10 mbps if yiu're on satellite.
>>
>>53990783
>tfw no Google Fiber at my irrelevant little town
>tfw no municipal Fiber because all Comcast has to say is "oh yeah, we'll serve them. Eventually. Fuck you, that's when." to block any municipal efforts
>>
>>53996112
I live in Waterloo city proper, and 25mbps is max I can get with Bell.

A new subdivision that's just being built supposedly can get 960Mbps FTTH though.
>>
>>53996213
they are all just resellers.

Rogers currently has a deal for $100/month
get 100mbit internet, TV , homephone.
Locked in for 2 years at that price , with a 2 year commitment.

From all the stuff I've read on forums you can always haggle down prices with Bell/Rogers, almost never with the resellers.
That is how I managed to get 250mbit for 50% off for 1 year.
last I checked rogers retention can offer $25/month off most internet plans easily.
RFD has a long long thread about bell/rogers/fido/etc retention deals

But that kind of stuff requires some patience and legwork on your end, deals can be found if you put in the effort.
>>
>>53996251
But why would you want cable TV or home phone?
>>
>>53996248
exactly, new subvisions.
And we already know how crazy the housing market is here.
So unless you are willing to move/buy a new home for 400K+ , you can kiss that gigabit dream with bell goodbye for a few years.

>>53996258
I dont know, its a package deal.
Lots of people still watch TV, their main complaint is the price and that nothing is on.

>>53996236
Honestly, you would think Rogers offering gigabit service to the majority of its customers already would kick bell in the balls to do something about it, but nope.
You get people like my parents that used to pay ~$90 for Bells 25mbit bundle with a cap!
It took me several years of gentle reminders to finally get them to switch to Rogers for way faster speeds with no caps for less money !
But people like that are literally dying off, everyone under 30 wants fast internet, Bell better hurry the fuck up.
>>
>>53996251
Yeah, really not interested in a contract, I need flexibility. Also, I'm fine paying the reseller price, as long as there's no bullshit. 25ml/10 fttn unlimited for 60/mth is pretty good, given all of bell's shit.

Major cable issue is just getting it upstairs to the modem/router, and also id Rogers or Start can offer it, but given how we pay for cable tv, I think rogers can offer internet.

Again, if rogers can give at least 25/10 (upload is crucial, with not "download only guaranteed" bullshit), UNL, solid price, no contract, then I'd go with them.
>>
>>53996326
Like I mentioned, if you put in some effort you can get a better price directly from Bell.

Personally my experience with Rogers and Bell, is that Rogers offers a more consistent service and speeds.
Bell is way too dependand on those thin telephone wires and your distances from the CO, so god forbid you are far away from the CO and never see those 10mbit upload speeds.

Another god awful thing about resellers if they don't directly have access to the techs that come to do the installations like Rogers and Bell does.
All they can do is submit tickets to bell to check lines/send out techs, its a real fucking mess.

anyways anon, check out

Thx for the links, I hate mobile reolyjng, so excuse my typos sorry.
>>
>>53996421
The only source I can think of was a few months (or longer) ago in the sub reddit Toronto someone posted an email of a person being invited for some special event.

They googled the name of the person who sent the email and turns out she worked in the google fiber division.

The only other evidence was google job postings in the toronto/ontario area for people with skills relating to running an ISP/fiber network.
>>
>>53996425
maybe look into the 250/20 package from Rogers..

Even if the speeds are 50% of what is advertised you will still get 10mbit ;)

Also rogers/bell will install the modem where you want it, they might not like it, but they will do it.
>>
>>53996461
Not going to lie that isn't the worst Rumour I've heard. Still not believing till I see it tho
>>
>>53996528
Toronto already has a gigabit provider in the area, but they only wire up condos.
Even if google came, the roll out would take years in the first place.

Everyone else is SOL.

Maybe by the time Rogers has 10gigabit speeds Bell will finally complete its gigabit roll out across the GTA

Seriously, wtf has to happen for us to get better speeds ? Fuck it, let the gov own the last mile and make it all fiber and then Bell/Rogers/whomever has to lease it from the gov
>>
>>53996630
>Seriously, wtf has to happen for us to get better speeds ?

Stop the practice of letting only one company install phone or cable lines to the home.

Allow multiple companies to lay the last mile.

Or, have the municipalities lay the last mile and have the ISPs pay municipalities for access.

The control of the last mile is why Bell and Rogers have near monopoly.

I'm not a huge fan of google as a company but if they brought fiber to my area I'd drop comcuck in a heartbeat. Nice to see they're still expanding I guess.
>>
>>53996910
I remember years ago watching a doc about this stuff, its really fucking crazy the lengths they will go to to beat other people by mere milliseconds.

One canadian trader was fed up with this BS and started his own exchange with a litteral spool of fiber to add fiber to a delay to HFTs

this bothers me.
some mooching gang banger with free better internet than someone who would pay top dollar for it and could appreciate the joys of gigabit connection speeds.

How much bandwidth do you need to complain about the government on Facebook and stream nignog shit from Kikeflix?

the human mind wont benefit from a quarter second faster information arrival if you're actually reading a bunch of shit

Bloomberg sends certain information like earnings and central bank announcements in machine-readable format so that computers can decipher it and make automatic trades based on the info.

If U.S. Fed ratings announcement is expected to put pressure on Australian government bonds (it always does), banks can program bots to wait for certain message on Bloomberg then automatically trade bonds based on the amount by which the U.S. Fed raised or lowered the overnight rate.

>complete monopoly, paying $150+ a month for 1.5 down and 1 up

TO is off the Chicago exchange and has the largest population in the country. Also a ton of large financial clients, so there is likely already infrastructure to piggy back off of.

Something is wrong with those stats. There is no internet plan in Romania below 100mbps, so the average speed can't be something like that. It's literally impossible to have Internet at 15mbps in Romania, maybe on mobile or connections with guaranteed speed.

Toronto even has a fibre line that goes directly to London with no stops in between.

>Teksavvy
>Pay for 18/1, 400gb
>Bell starts selling more in the area
>Get 8-9/0.8, internet drops out in the evening
>30sec intervals. No hope of stable connection.
Being on Bell lines is suffering.

Source you faggots. There's nothing that reports this.

I...I had no fucking idea. Is this for real? This can't be a troll. I've only ever lived in semirural Western WA and ND.
I thought the 10.0/1.0mbps the house just upgraded to was at least average. Holy SHIT.
FUCK Kitsap.

Teksavvy here. 30d/5u/400gb/$65. SPeeds are consistent and ive had no issues, but god damnit i would love this to be true. even 100 down for a good price would be amazing

>Google will never expand their service to Idaho because CableOne will be doing it first for $175

I envy those who live in Salt Lake as I'm paying $105 (100mbps/50mbps) every month because I exceeded my bandwidth 3 times and had to upgrade or they'll cut off my internet, the funny is I got hit by a malware without knowing it for months or over year until I noticed it through Networkx, in which my PC had been forced to upload something I don't know. Fuck my life.
>>
>>53989967
Nigger, I'm paying 28 lei ($7) for 100/100 mbps speed with no data caps.

As someone who recently moved to canada from california:
Yes. The US basically is in 2nd place out of industrialized nations when it comes to how shitty phone and cable companies treat their customers. Canada is 1st. At least in California, in places like SF and Santa Cruz, there were viable, local small-business alternatives to Comcast who weren't totally awful. AFAICT, in Canada there's no such thing.
>>
>>53998357
Actually, Canada is second only to Australia.

Why even bother replying if you have literally nothing to say? What are you even trying to say?
If someone else made her and he calls her OC then obviously he asked for her to be made. Are you saying this anon commissioned his own manga/anime/LN/VN series just to have his waifu?
What if he drew it? Then is he some shitty author who fawns over his own girls looking at you agematsu, that's probably an even bigger waste of time and money for something so menial.
Worse yet you could tell me he imagines a character onto a simple drawing, calls it his waifu and fantasizes over it and I'll just laugh then and consider traditional waifus superior any day.
All in all the idea is pathetic. I assume if any the animators at KroAni have waifus, they wouldn't be the girls they personally drew/wrote. In the past this leads to worst girls being born.

>>53990966
um? take Slovakia here
20/5 is considered pretty average, or getting pushed down with 30/ to 50/ for a good ~35 eur from most of the carriers - in the top 5 big cities

the farther you go from the capital, the larger is the speed drop, getting in my old hometown with 5/1 for ~20 eur (add some euros for the *necessary* sum for router that you need to pay even if you never plug it in)
