You don't have to. It just gives you no feedback when registers the keypress. It's a matter of taste.

It gets a bad rep after being heavily marketed as a gamer switch for no real reason. No really, it was just invented decades after its siblings and they needed a way to market it.
How do you market slightly expensive computer parts, accessories and peripherals to somewhat ordinary consumers? Gamers will gobble that shit up if you make it cool enough.

Get whatever switch you want to. No one switch is universally better.
>>
>>53986433
Is the PCB really orange, or is it just red and the colours are fucked?

Yes, I have tried a number of Gateron switches.

What you should get comes down to preference. What experience do you have with MX-style switches?

I've put my split keyboard design off for the moment since I'm too busy for the next half year to do that, and also because I'll be starting training to become an electrical engineer, so I'd like to do that once I've got enough know-how to design a PCB myself and make it extra fancy.

Black and yellow are almost identical. Greens are popular amongst enthusiasts, but you have to like a heavier switch. This is why it's hard to predict what you, personally, will like.

Most autists do have ocd though, a cousin of mine is autistic and if he sees something partly broken, he will destroy it. He once broke all the legs off a table, broke the "plate" (dunnu how it's called) in pieces and neatly stacked it all in a fairly large cardboard box, taped it all up and threw it in a dumpster. Nobody but his parents ever dare to stop him as he's really strong too, I have witnessed him punch a pretty thick door out of it's frame because the lock mechanism wasn't aligned correctly causing the door to stay open unless you locked it.

I'd rather get a keyboard that's less cramped and more comfortable for typing than focusing on how hard I'm typing when I'm working.
>>
>>53987507
Well he's at the far end of the spectrum, he googles pictures of everything that's caught his attention everyday, if he hears an ad on the radio where they repeat a product's name a few times, he's going to be googling it that night. He has difficulty communicating without getting too emotional, he can't easily form correct sentences unless he plans what he's going to say like 3-4 minutes before actually saying it. He also likes throwing eggs at the floor too much, if he opens the fridge and finds eggs in it, he will ruin the floor/carpet. One thing that amazes me though is that his memory is unmatched, he can easily memorise whole songs, he can also assemble any furniture from places like IKEA in under 10 minutes. If you do have autism, it's probably not even close to his.

Some people would probably disagree with me, but I honestly like linear switches for typing.

After a while the click and bump becomes a novelty, and I think it was started in the first place to "learn" to not bottom your keys out. Well you should "know" how to type if you do a lot of typing, and it'll let you type a little faster and easier.
Linear switches make those 'bouts of typing extremely fast and accurately, feel like butter

Sounds like you need to be killed. At least he's happy, he doesn't see the bad side of things, if he does he obliterates the whole thing, but that's a whole other subject. He does get pretty nervous when he has to talk to someone he isn't really familiar with, but if he's comfortable he spreads joy everywhere he passes. He'll stare into your eyes until you notice and he'll start laughing his ass off when you do making you laugh too, if you like it or not. He is also extremely obedient when he's bored, but when he's busy with something there's no force in the universe that can make him do something.

I don't think theres a store nearby where i could try switches and testers are really expensive over here.

Based on description I think browns are the best for me (don't want a loud keyboard but also play RTS/FPS games and want feedback when typing).
>>
>>53988682
The board is equivalent in quality to most other mainstream Cherry boards (Filco etc). The price is excellent so I guess go for it. FWIW I'm enjoying mine with orings, though the keycaps are not the best quality (though nothing has good keycaps at this pricepoint, you have to go double the price to get something with good keycaps included).

I don't really care for cap quality so long as the keys arent wobbly and its harder to misclick when typing (using a steelseries apex raw GAYMEN keyboard and the space key is driving me insane). I just want to be able to type more comfortably and have more fun from pressing keys when playing Dota.

>>53988965
Cherry MX stems have a small amount of play, you can't get around that. The QFR-i is using Cherry stabilizers but the implementation is good and they don't feel mushy. Pressing the spacebar at the edge feels almost the same as pressing it in the center.

Personally I don't have a problem with gaymen brands, even if their stuff is a little more expensive than it should be.
That is IF their stuff doesn't have some major flaws, like the shitty bottomrow in Corsair/Razer boards. If those boards were at least dirt cheap, but they are pretty much the most expensive retail boards.
There is not a single reason to get the K70 over some CM or even a vintage board. Quality isn't better in any way, it only looks a little more flamboyant and offers RGB-backlight.
If you are willing to live with the flaws and pay extra for nothing but some LEDs and floating keys, you are nothing but a complete idiot.
>>53986051

>>53988781
Best buys and walmarts would be a good proxy. I've seen mechanicals from Razor and Corsair in both stores, and you can pretty much infer browns, reds, and blues from those samples. Razor calls them green and orange but you get the idea of a blue and brown MX, basically the same.

Browns are pretty inoffensive. Good gateway switch. You won't be wowed by typing on the brown, but try and go back to a rubber dome or a scissor switch-- you won't be able to, they'll feel so bad in comparison.

Also, razor black widow is like 85 at amazon, making it a very good deal, but I guess in theory your argument took that into account. So... would you a Black Widow over a das or code given the Razor keyboard is actually cheaper?

Would you go razor black widow over Das?

The k70 is really overpriced. Wow. Didn't know it was that bad. Doesn't it also use two USB ports? Terrible. Terrible.

Rapid-i has a design flaw, where leds die really fast. Its actually a manufacturer issue, pretty much every board they made with white or blue leds suffer from the same issue.

Also, their rubber coating case is fucking disgusting. Impossible to clear and atracts a lot of dust.

The regular quickfire (the non backlit version or the stealth version) is way better. It has better soldering, much better quality control, and this ones (not the rapid-i) are from costar, the same manufacturer as filcos.

GUYS I need some advice, I posted here once and I've made more research since then

Basically I want ISO and that's a pain in the ass, but I still really don't want to switch to ANSI because of my special snowflake language and characters
So basically my plan was to order custom keycaps from maxkeyboards, then get a base set from pimpkeyboard and only use the letters because I like the font

I have two questions:
- Are maxkeyboards keys any good?
- Would mixing keycaps from different sources like that be an issue?

Thanks in advance, any input is appreciated

Their PBT is ok, although not as nice as thick PBT. Their ABS though is not that different from wasd.

>Would mixing keycaps from different sources like that be an issue?
Depends on the profile. max and wasd both use OEM profile, so you should be ok. Mixing OEM profile with cherry, dsa, sa or anything else would suck.

You can do an ISO-ANSI mix you know?
>>53989472
If it comes down to these three I'd get the Code over the Das and Razer comes last.
Reason:
Razer has that retarded bottom-row. It makes a keyboard that could in theory be a lifetime companion a throw away product
Das are assholes, reduced quality with every newer keyboard, while maintaining the price
Code is pretty good. I'd get that if possible, or a WASD. Just not with clears, since they are reported to ping when using clears and I'm freaking allergic to pinging.
Are you in Burgerland? Then a Ganss would be a nice idea as well.

Not even a difficult decision there. K70 has gaymer shit quality caps and nonstandard layout, so you're pretty much stuck with them.

Why do you want backlighting? Like, is it an aesthetic choice? Not trying to be a dick here but I'm assuming nobody in this thread looks at the keyboard while they're typing. We all know about the little bumps on the f and j keys. The only scenario I can come up with in which you actually need to look at the keys is while you're learning to touch type or learning a new layout, and I don't really see why you need to do this in the dark. And if the reason is aesthetic, what's going on here? Why should random stuff that has no reason to glow be glowing anyway? Like, do you use the keyboard as ambient lighting? Are lady friends impressed by the lit-up keyboard? Are you using a dedicated macro keyboard? Please explain, I really don't understand this phenomenon.
>>

This Magicforce has Cherry MX browns, which are really good German switches that don't click, and it has white backlighting.
>>
>>53987605
I found two things bother me after long periods:

1. Heavy switches.
2. Hard bottoming out.

While there are light MX switches, they are all harsh if you bottom out. I don't bottom out that much, but if I am doing a full day of typing it starts to bother me after a while.

O-Rings help with this, in addition to making the keyboard quieter overall, but they reduce travel distance as well. I use MX-Reds + O-rings at work.

From my experience so far, my best typing experience overall is with Topre. Regular 45g Topre is very smooth and easy to type on, and because of the design you get full key travel without a hard bottom. I use Topre at home.
