I rely on music to keep me focused, foobar is the only player I know of that handles the library and queue in a way that I prefer, the closest alternative is cmus but it's missing some features.

Everything I could do on another OS I can do inside of Windows, the opposite is not true.

Foobar2000 is a known botnet and Windows is just protecting you from it.

Boycott Foobotnet.
>>
Wait so am I understanding this correctly? What is the problem? That you now have to click "Yes" on an UAC prompt when installing foobar? How is that a problem? It should be like that for every program, being able to suppress that with signatures sounds like a security risk.

If users don't want UAC prompts they can just turn UAC off globally themselves.

I don't care what it would take I would personally port it myself just to have it if they released the source as is. I've honestly considered just implementing my own player that mimics the features I need but I don't think I could do as good of a job.

>>53983819
The issue with VM's is handling media keys, there may be some way to pass them through or I could use some kind of signal from the host to the vm but that's a lot of resources just for a music player. Plus I'd need to setup a passthrough for the audio files themselves although that's easy.

Probably worth mentioning I'd rather an open source release than just a Linux binary since then it could be ported to the platforms I use. That's the whole issue to begin with is that foobar is platform locked to Windows right now, adding just one would be better but not best.

If you'd read the thread linked on that page, you'd find that it's StarSSL's fault, not the foobar creator's.

TL;DR StartSSL is selling SHA-256 with SHA-1 intermediates, which of course are no longer supported.

Bullshit.

It's not open-source, however. That's a shame, because if it was I could help Peter.

Interestingly it's really high quality, and has a great open-source ecosystem built up around it: like EAC, if it ever died, I'm sure something open source would replace it.

It's not Microsoft's fault. They are doing exactly what they should: warning the user about an installer with a weak signature (albeit not as clearly as they could).

The problem here is the incompetent (literal) jews at StartSSL, signing with an SHA-1 intermediate in the chain, in 2016, in breach of their CA/B Forum and Authenticode agreements, again.

There are a couple of providers who do free code signing certs, but only for open-source developers, as unlike Let's Encrypt's initiative, this requires ID checking (so no, LE can't help you with this).

Yes, so it is essentially StartSSL fault, thanks for the effort. (Although the certificate itself is signed using SHA256, not all the certificates in the chain are:)

If Microsoft tools consistently reported failure, it would be at least easier to explain to them; instead they just blame Microsoft SmartScreen.

It's even funnier that with my certificate, I cannot sign anything outside my Windows 7 VM used for foobar2000 compiling and packaging, signtool running natively on my Windows 10 workstation refuses to sign, but it won't say in detail why the cert chain is wrong.

What features do you want?

The design of mpd is such that you can use it with any number of clients, to provide different features.

I currently have 4 programs connected to my mpd instance. (ncurses front-end, status bar, wm for hotkeys and autoplay.py)
>>
>>53985507
So the big thing is how the queue works, in foobar I have it set up so that it displays my library as a tree, when I click on anything in it then it goes to the current queue, the cursor follows the playback and the playback will follow the cursor, so if track 2 is done it will move to track 3, but if I highlight track 6 when the current track is done track 6 will play. Another one that I never see in media players is "stop after current" which just stops playback after a track is done.

Here's a video, don't mind the theme, I only have it for the library plugin that comes with it.

Interesting concept for sure. I'm not sure how to get it into mpd, at least not without writing your own front-end and many hacks, but allow me to suggest an alternative. (i.e. basically how I use mpd)

I have mpd set up in ‘consume’ mode; which means that the playlist in mpd acts much like a queue. For example, I currently have these songs queued: >>53985372

Once mpd finishes playing a song, it gets removed from the playlist (consumed) and mpd goes on to the next one.

Say I want to, after the currently playing track finishes, start listening to an album: I would just browse to the album and use “insert after current song”.

If I want to skip ahead to a different song, I would either just delete the ones I want to skip from the play-queue manually, or I would just instruct mpd to skip ahead in the queue (and then maybe later I might skip back to where I was before). (Or I might take the song I want to prioritize and just drag it to after the current song instead)

Finally, if the playlist ever ends up empty as a result of consuming everything, I have a script to automatically queue up something related based on my listening preferences.

>>
>>53987259
>I appreciate the input though, did you write the script you're talking about yourself?
No. It's some python script I pulled off a list of mpd-related scripts.

It's extremely basic, it just has an sqlite database keeping score of how many times I listened to a song versus how many times it added that song. (So if it adds a song that I end up skipping early, it would get counted ‘negatively’, and if I manually add a song, it ends up getting counted ‘positively’)
