just get some actual PA cabs with 12 inch woofers and horns, and an amplifier, you'll be more satisfied and won't spend much more.
>>
Is it true that when considering the effective sound quality for a single listener, headphones are much better than speaker unless you start spending many hundreds of dollars?
>>
Would recapping and refoaming my 40 year old speakers make them sound better?
>>
>>53971445
I think headphones are just lacking something.
>>
>>53971445
Speakers are good for group listening.
>>
>>53971445
I have headphones that are more expensive than my speakers but I still enjoy the speakers more. Speakers can make you, and objects around you really vibrate and I think that plays a big role in the experience, and also the fact that the sound is reflecting from surfaces all around you and coming back to you makes the sound more live.
If you're talking purely about objective sound reproduction, then I agree. There's relatively cheap headphones out there which can reproduce sound well and all it takes is putting them on your head. When it comes to faithful sound reproduction through speakers, It not only takes good speakers, you also need to have good environment.

Looking for some classic floorstanding stereo speakers.

Went into a thrift store and their main sound system was a pair that sounded great. Nice bass and mids.

I used to own a pair. Now I want them over the tower bullshit that Beat Buy sells.
>>
>>53973401
Then go to a store and demo them, or do their 60 day home trial.
>>
>>53973358
yeah.

bigger speakers produce more bass. wowo.

bigger magnets and voice coils take more electricity and produce more volume. wowo.

such differences. wait you're saying feeding them more watts makes them louder? wait you're saying that making something larger lowers its sound? wowo, your a true sceintist. speakiers really do sound different.
>>
>>53973445

Speakers don't produce power they handle it

Cone shape makes a difference, so does material

Different combination of material and ratios produce different frequency responses. Look up Fletcher Munson contour because I'm 100% sure you don't know what that is.

Feeding them more power doesn't always make them louder. Speakers can only handle so much so feeding them more than they can handle will only produce distortion, not volume

God get educated you degenerate.

No Soundstage?

If you mean if they get too hot, then they go into protection mode.

But if you buy a good amp then you won't have to worry about that.

Pro audio amps are meant to push thousands of watts 24/7 in extreme heat without failure. I've rarely had failures with old peavey or crown amps

I don't have a budget. I'm just sick of these 8 year old $5 "PC speakers" I have.

For that price, go to your local thrift store and look for an older technics, marantz, panasonic, or yamaha receiver. Make sure it's an old analogue unit, silver front with knobs and switches if you can find it.

Do a bit more research first, but old JBL or similar bookshelf or loudspeakers had pretty decent quality. A 3.5mm to RCA cable should do the trick. TRS -> RCA if you have an external soundcard with the appropriate ports.

>>53975016
Speakers in the $20 to $30 range are either pure shit or surprisingly good. Two that I've personally owned are the $20 Amazonbasics A100/150 which are shit, and the $25 Logitech Z200 which are surprisingly good. So I'll recommend walking around town and digging for change around local coinstars and begging around convenience stores until you scrape together the extra $5

You could also buy used. Goodwill, salvation army, flea market, whatever. Just understand it's a risk. You could buy a set that's DOA, or a great set that just needs repairs, or something that was garbage new and got worse.

>>53971445
Not really. It's not a matter of sound quality, headphones and speakers just present sounds in a very different way. Headphones are great for people looking for a "in-head", intimate sound, but good speakers simply make music sound like it's been played there before your eyes. Even cheap speaker systems can easily throw great and super expensive headphones ouy of the window. Frankly I wouldn't recommend a pair of headphones costing more than 300€/$ to anyone, unless isolation is a priority.

I guess because you usually don't sit like 2 feet away from them. If you sit 4-5 feet away it's inaudible.

This isn't exclusive to active speakers. Every amplifier in the world has hiss. It's called the noise floor. Maybe the amps used in active speakers are shit or something but I doubt it, it's just faggots turning the gain to 100% complaining about audible hiss.

Sanyo was seen as trash by pretty much everyone that didn't own Sanyo equipment at the time because the materials used on the housing. In actual use however, they sounded much better than anything else in their price range. On a modern day home theater amplifier, they will sound better than just about everything else out there as they will actually be balanced pretty well in the 20-20k sound spectrum. Hooked up as normal stereo speakers however, you'll want to get an equalizer to balance out the bass.

I have a Denon AVR-510BT with JBL northridge e80 as the fronts, jbl loft 20 center, klipsch reference r-14 as surrounds, and a pioneer SW-8MK2 sub. Thoughts?

Got these in 2014 with a "Sony STRDH130 2 Channel Stereo Receiver"

What should I update? Looking to spend about $200.

This desu. If philips could do it in the 70s why can't your Memegine monitors do it?

No thanks, i'll take Zeos' advice.
>>
>>53996636
this gets you a networked stereo reciever. with actual engineering behind it. like quality caps, big transformer, ect. and nice speaker's. i actually own these speakers, there made by energy who is owned by klipsch. there the only speakers for a 100ish dollers with real phase plugs. double coated aluminum drivers, a disperser over the tweeter, and heavy duty surrounds. the pole pieces are also vented, it comes with a quality crossover and even looks good to boot. with the port they can hit about 68hz at -3d as measured in my room. and that amp will help push them pretty hard. as it can deliver power up to 4 ohm loads, which the energys sometimes will dip into.
>>
>>53996652
are you fucking serious? Anon i love zeos too, hes hilarious but he really does not understand the underlying science and engineering behind audio equipment. Im not shilling or trying to steer you wrong. i literally had this same setup for awhile and love the fuck out of it. that sony reciever is garbage, and the miccas are laughable compared to the fucking cb-10's. if you wanna be dumb though thats you'r choice.

Does anyone have the updated version(if there is one) and is this even true?
>>
Differences between a Cambridge DacMagic and something like 2i4 or Komplete 6?

I mean with the first one you take it from pc via spdif/optical to the dac, with the second one you have usb (so same digital) but you have an installed sound card that you can use it for more and elaborate the sound in a different and more versatile situations?
>>
>>53998017
I find with my interface (yamaha steinberg ur22mkii) listening to pc audio makes it stutter when the cpu is under load. You're better off with something that you can plug in your motherboard's optical like the dacmagic if you game at all. Even then I noticed every time I minimised foobar it would stop the audio for a fraction of a second.

That said I don't believe there will be much of an audio improvement, if any.

>>53988279
No surprise here. The 650 is shit.

I was about to buy a pair of JBL lsr305, when my father suggested me to test this cheap 2.1 kit system by Indiana Line, called MIO Kit. Well, after long listening sessions and some adjustments in my little room, I can definitely say that I'm super happy. These little speakers sound really flat to my ears, the mid-highs are just a little boosted, but that's a great thing imo.

XLS-215 are great. Ugly as sin and build quality isn't that great but they do sound nice.

Surprisingly balanced sound. Not overly bassy.

i was writing just fast without attention,i like them very much, dont know why i chose them 2 years ago,i didnt know the reddit guide for the speakers,im using a creative usb soundcard with them, the one that cost like 80 euro's.they are solid as fuck

I think what you're trying to say is that you have the behringer monitors you pictured, and that you like the sound they produce, and bought a creative usb dac for them?

Good I guess?

are Magnat Monitor Supreme 102 or 202 any good? I just want any computer speakers that aren't overpriced shit. I've been using the same cheap chinese computer speakers for the last 20 years and frankly the sound seemed ok so I don't see a reason to buy expensive ones

i have klipsch promedia 2.1s on my desktop.

how much money would i have to drop on bookshelf speakers / a dac / whatever to have superior sound?

i don't understand the audio market at all, and it sounds to me like /g/ thinks all speakers marketed toward computers suck ass.

Known that feel.

My Dad is currently restoring some old B&W DM2A speakers and making them better than what they originally were and also better than the consumer crap you could buy.
Brief point I would say with the my Dad's project that it is really new set of speakers being made using older body and sticking to the original acoustic design for the speakers (base speaker, twin tweeters).

Original crossovers and super tweeters (reversed microphone design apparently) were okay, but one for each of the other tweeter and base speaker were blown.
Both bodies had issues from a mixture of damage, ageing and poor design flaws (to be expected given they were made in the 70s) which is where most of the project has been spent fixing.

Most of the body work has been done and soon (few days) the speakers will be tested with their new crossovers and speakers (all speakers new, none of the original internal components used).
Final base speaker hasn't been decided yet.
Could need to order another set for one of the tweeters as one either has a slight fault causing significant different in noise during initial test (it was clearly audible) or both simply aren't matched despite both being the same model of tweeter and were brought at the same time.

>>53972999

compared to your no name recommendation and lack of reasoning as to why they're any good if better, or for that matter why people would not want active speakers

How is that amp btw? Compared to Music Hall or Creek or Arcam, etc.
